Yikes! Liquid Diet Starts Today!
Try the unjury chicken broth. Its pretty good and the 20 grams of protein help tame your hunger.

Is This Normal??
I had the same experience. I was afraid to weigh because clothes that were a little big before surgery were a little tight after. But I decided I just had to know and to my suprise I had lost 8 pound in the first week! So I figured that I must still be swelling around my mid section. Plus I can tell I still have some water weight, because my wedding ring is a little tight as well.

March Bandsters!

Carbs And Protein.....2 Weeks Post Op
Hey Goosie17....be patient. I know its hard, but you are only 2 weeks post-op. I'm only 1 week postop I have only lost 5 pounds but I know I still am retaining Water too. Theses few few weeks need to be about giving our bodies what it needs to heal. And because we are on a liquid/puree/mushie diet, most of our foods will be coming from carbs. When you get the green light to eat "real" food, then I would suggest you cut back on your carbs. Diabetics must keep their carbs at no more than 125. I was keeping mine at no more than 50 b4 surgery and would like to return to that when I see real food again. My body works nicely at 800cal/60+protein/40carb. I was loosing about a pound a day. But thats me....you should speak with your surgery teams to see what they think. Was your PA for your general practioner or for your surgeon?

Hello Evereyone,
Some doctors have a strict post op diet of just liquids...others not so much. I am trying to stick to the diet as much as possible....but I have taken to eating foods that are thicker. They stay with me longer and I feel so much better. I walked 2 miles yesterday...probably over did it a little, but it was nice to get out in thesunshine.
-
Hello Evereyone,
I am on a full liquid diet this week...so mostly blenderized soup, thinned out yogurt, thinned out oatmeal.....sfpudding, sf jello. Next week I will be on pureed foods. How about you? Have you started any exercise yet?

How Much Protien For You A Day?
My doctoor wants at least 60 grams. I have become a fan of New whey. It has 42 grams Protein in 4oz. It tastes like kool-aid. You can buy a few flavors at walmart for 2.50. You can look at the product at www.newwhey.com I mix 1 newwhey with crystal light and then mix it with about 10 oz Water then pour it over crushed ice......I split it into 2 servings.

Caffeine And Protein
If you decide to use them, get them from walmart. They don't carry all the flavors, but they are not nearly as pricy.

Sharp Pain While Walking & Bending
The most walking I have gone until today was around the house. But today I ventured out and had the same type pain. very sharp not exactly on top of the port, but close to it. Figure there is probably something in there stretching.....I think its normal, I have have read of several other having similar pains.

Calorie Counting??
Ducker-Maybe you could slim down your Protein drinks. Mine are only averaging about 150 calories and about 20 protein.Thats only 300 calories that leaves 400 for dinner and 100 for a light snack. This is what I was eating b4 surgery and what I want to start back with as soon as my liquid diet is up----I wasn't hugry at all 8 am-Breakfast 150cal/22protein/8carbs coffee Protein Drink 11 am-Lunch: 85cal/13protein/0 carbs 2 egg white 2 strips precooked bacon 3 pm- Snack: 95cal/21protein/0carbs (if I exercise...If I don't, then I skip this snack) New whey Protein drink 6 pm-Dinner: (aprx) 400 cal/25 protein/ 30 carbs 3 oz lean meat 1/2 cup Green Low carb Veggie (cucumber, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, green beans) 1/2 cup Not so low carb veggie (carrot, corn, peas, limas) OR 1/2 cup starch (potato, sweet potato, Pasta, rice, bread) Brings the total to: 730 Cals/60-81 Proteins/38 carbs

Differences In Post-Op Diets
Im just curious. I found when I was going through the pre-op diet, everyone had something different their doctors told them to do. Some were told to do nothing, others were told follow a adkins/south beach diet......some like me where put on 2 Protein shakes a day and a light meal for dinner.....and then others (bless their hearts) were put a strict all liquid diet. So now that we are all on the other side, how different are the post op diets for the first few weeks? I'm 2 weeks liquid only followed by 2 week puree follwed by 2 more weeks of mushie

How Does It Feel When You Eat?

Not New But Needing Support
Hi Ky, You most be a very strong women to juggle that many responsibilities. Your family is very lucky to have you. I know the last few years have been rough and Im glad to see you have come though....brusied and scared....but survived. I always tell my kids if it doesn't kill you, it will make you a stronger person.....and I bet the same is true for you. It can' get any worse than you have already been through, so the only way left is up. I applaud you for taking control back and putting yourself first again. It is hard for us women to do that....we always put our husband, kids, parents, work...EVERYTHING ahead of ourselves...it has taken my a long time to realize, that I need to come first sometimes.....and when I take care of myself.....everyone else reaps the benefits too. Hang in there KY....plug back into the lapband site and continue to make yourself over again. If you ever need to talk please feel free to inbox message me. God Bless You

Calorie Counting??
Other than a few patients that don't tolerate the high protein diet, I think its the more protein the better. I have a girlfriend that tends to develope kidney and gall stones quicker when she follows a high protein diet.

Bmi 27 And Considering The Lapband, Depressed
Welcome to the group dwolley. You will get a lot of stuff from this group but judgement isn't one of them. Let me start with we have all been there I have the same problem a will starve myself of food and kill myself with exercise and will get every last pound off. but the minute I return to a normal way of life (and by normal I mean 1300 calories and exercising 2-3 times a week) I gradually begin gaining weight. Eventually I gave up. I just couldn't live on 900 calories forever. So thats way I chose the band. It will make 900 alories possible. So be proud of yourself for maintaining a lower bmi...and seeking a longterm solution. I know a few people felt I wasn't "big enough" to have the surgery. I never could get them to understand that me being the size I am was strugge and that I knew if I didnt do something soon I would be "big enough" for the surgery. So applaud you for making the decision early on and not waitly until you have a bmi of 45 or 50. As for band slippage....I agree with jennybee, unless he dosen't have multiple size bands, he should be able to fit you with one that would work on lower bmi patients.

April Shower Challenge
- March Bandsters!
I bought tylenol cold----But the only actie ingredient is tylenol. I couldn't find just plain tylenol liquid.- Calorie Counting??
my doctor says at least 60 grams protein and under 1000 calories. I know I won't lose very much at 1000 calories, so I have set 800-900 calories as a personal goal.- Post Op Protein
Im doing better....It has taken me a few extra days to recover but I'll get there. Thanks for asking.- March Bandsters!
Judych- Glad everything is going smoothly. I had mine on 3/19. Had 2 hernias repaired and a lot of adhesions removed. I think a was a lot more sore than I had prepared myself for. Took me an extra couple of days to recoup...but I'm feeling much better now. I am struggling with the all liquid diet now. I am very hungry and no its NOt head hunger. My stomach is grawling so hard and long that it has become painful. I finally ate a small amount of boiled pasta. I stomach instantly stopped grawling. I felt so much better. Its not something Im going to start doing all day, but Im just going to have to add a small amount of something to stop the hungry. I am still getting in all my protein with the new whey protein shots.- Post Op Protein
In addition to using the new whey once a day.I also bought unjury unflavored protein power. I measure me out 2 scoops and sit it on the counter. All through the day I take a teaspoon out and mix it in my broth, jello, juices.....when my bowl is empty, I know I have enough protein in me. By mixing a little into everything, I don't notice it as much. Makes it much easier- Is Anyone Else Hungry??? Is This Normal 3/19/12 Was My Surgery Date
I was banded on the 19th as well.Im glad to hear others are hungry too!! My somach is grawling something awful! I though I just must not have much swelling since everything goes down easily with no problems. It going to be a long two weeks of liquids!! This is harder than the pre-op. - March Bandsters!
