  1. I had both a hiatial and a umbilical hernias repaired. I definately thought it added a different level of discomfort and took a few extra days to recover.
  2. I went this afternoon and got: oscar meyer turkey weiners (40 cal/4 carbs/5 protein) re-fried beans black beans sf jello canned chicken canned tuna Ole xtremely healthy tortillas (71 calories/ 5 net carbs/5 protein) New whey protein (42 grams in 4oz) spinach strawberries block cheddar cheese whole turkey Fresh green beans cucumbers celery broccoli slaw
  3. Thats what I was thinking.....I had a week post-op b4 mine came, and I was too sore to bend...so a pad was just easier.
  4. I like to roast a split spaghetti squash in the oven at 350 for about 45 min. Then I scoop out the "spagetti" and set it aside. I then de-seed and cut up a yellow squash, a zuchine, a onion, a green pepper, spinach and saute' them with a little olive oil and garlic until tender. when they are tender, I return the spagetti squash back to the pan.. ----I know you said you don't like the squash as much, so you may want to trade them out for others that you prefer. Mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, etc. Then I make a simple "spaghetti" sauce of tomatoe sauce with italian spices and garlic and the dry parmsean sprinkle cheese and lattle a cup or so of sauce into the veggie mix and coat the veggies.( I sometimes add hamburger, turkey or chicken if I need the protein) I then spoon the mixture back into the hollowed out spaghetti halves, top with a little more sauce and a slice of provolone or some other italian cheese. and place it under the broiler until it bubbles. Serves 4.
  5. Hey I didn't do too bad interpretting ..............to have been out of the field for a long time!! I'm glad everything looked well.
  6. I'm gald they are able to replace the port for you. I hope the newer band will offer you security for years to come. I have wondered if those that have had it for so long, if they had it removed....if they would suddenly start gaining weight again. Just shows that it can't all be about Thanks for forging the path for the rest of us....It must have been very scary to have it done when it was so new.
  7. I kinda of gave up trying to find one I REALY liked and went to finding one that was mild and then spice them up with sf Syrups. 8. Aren't they such a joy!! My bet is grandma told him that he needed to do things around the house because you had surgery. And he saw that as having to do chores...rather than helping you out because he loves you. But I think I would have taken everything away that I cleaned up. And then I wouldn't let him get ANYTHING else out to play with...nothing. When he asks (yells at you) "WHY?" Iwould in a very calm voice exlain that you arn't going to spend he day cleaning up after him, and he made it clear he didn't want to clean up either...so there wasn't another choice. If he shows geniune sorrow for how he treated you, then you can have a heart to heart about how families take care of each ther...remind hm of a few times you took care of him...if he says he sorry and will clean up, then I would let him get a few things out....if he stays in his ugly mode then...let him suffer until tomorrow.
  9. I remember thinking "What have I done to myself!!"...I had several other things done at the same time.(2 hernias and a lot of adhessions removed)...I would read how others that were banded the same day were going back to work and I kept thinking whats wrong with me...I still can't even walk without it hurting. Then I felt so weak from the liquid only diet..I thought this is the hardest thing I have ever done. And I had a MAJOR surgery and had my jaw broken in 5 places and had my mouth wired shut for 10 weeks!! (when I was 15)...but this was harder. But now....I'm 4 weeks out and its awesome!! I have lost about 30 pounds counting the pre-op and I feel wonderful!! I don't know if its the weight loss, the diet or what....but I feel 5 years younger!! I have more spring in my step and more energy than I know what to do with!! Hang in there it will get better!! It just takes time....It may even take more than 4 weeks....but just be patient and it will happen!!
  10. Hey smmrsue, Our bodies do a lot of weird stuff the first weeks after post-op. Don't worry about the 1 pound. It's just Water weight. If your like I was, you probably are still drinking a lot of broh and Soups and they can be high in sodium. Plus our bodies are focused on healing at this stage....so the gain isn't anything to worry about. I'm a little scale obsessed right now, so I actually woke up and had to go to the bathroon like at 4:30 am and had to step on the scale while I was there. I was very dissappointed to see I had gained 2 pound from the previous morning....I was so upset!! I had such a hard time getting back to sleep. When I got back up at 8 am the first thing did was head back to the scales... and sure enough the 2 pounds were gone.....now I know I had to pee....but not 2 punds worth!!! haha If you are following the rules, Protein first and watching your calories...its all good and now that you are adding exercise....you are doing a wonderful job!! keep up the great work Anyway...try to stay off the scale.....it will drive you crazy (like me) and you will be weighing yourself in the middle of the night!!haha
  11. Although you've had your band a long time, you haven't really been able to use it. It kind of like you are starting over. I think once you get back on track you will feel better about your future sucesss with it. Try not to put a deadline on your success, it could take you several months just to find the proper fill. As long as you start to loose at a steady rate I would hang in there. In the meanwhile plug back into the LBT site and re-educate yourself on techniques and lifestyle. I'm sure if you are willing to recomitt, success will be in you future. Good Luck!!
  12. I dont know where my original post went, but caffine is a laxative!! It will make you go to the bathroom, especially if you aren't eating much to begin with. Secondly....it will dehydrate you. It pulls the Water of of your cells (thats why it is a laxative) I have worked with a lot of doctors over the years....very few throw out rules for no reason. If you don't agree with a rule, I would suggest you call and talk to your doctor...he can explain the reasoning behind the rule....maybe he would say yes to the Vitamin.....But I wouldn't just decide not to listen to the doctor....if something were to go wrong, you will worry yourself to death thinking you messed something up.
  13. You may want to try different brands of Protein as well...they all taste different.....also if you mix a little sf/ff pudding in with your shakes that might add a little something that you feel you are missing from using the skim milk.Plus there are a lot of sf syrups out there that can really enhance the flavors in a shake. I like to mix: 145cal/3 carbs/20 protein 1/2 oz sf carmel 1/2 oz sf vanilla 2-3 oz skim milk 3-4 oz favoite coffee (mine is the butter toffee by keurig) 1 scoop vanilla or unflavored Protein Powder blenderize with lots of ice Taste like the iced coffees from starbucks Another is: about 150 cal/ 6 net carbs/ 20 protein 1 oz SF vanilla syrup or SF pumpkin pie syrup 1/2 tsp rum extract 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice 2 oz canned pumpkin (not pie filling) 1 TBS SF/SF French Vanilla pudding 4- oz skim milk 1 scoop protein Blenderize with a little ice--if its too thick, thin with a little Water
  14. No carbs?! We are suppose to embrace the high protein/low carb lifestyle...but NO carbs? Are you sure? I think I am very conservative with keeping my carbs to below 30. the average person keeps theirs at around 225 and diabetics can have up to 125. So none seems impossible for the long haul. You might want to double check and make sure
  15. I know its not what you want to hear, but Im a firm believer in sticking to the rules...if you think you are ready to move to the next stage then I would wait until tomorrow and call the doctor office. They may let you move on. But don't just decide to break the rules....if you eat solid food and feel any twinges of pain or discomfort, you will worry yourself sick wondering if you have messed something up.
  16. I say get a doctor!!! I'm not sure why you would go 18 months without being under a docotors care. And if you are under a doctors care, why would he not have referred you to another lad band surgeon to help with your case. Anyway, we have to be our own health care advocates.....if you are really this sick, please pick up the phone and call another sugeon and be seen.....then when you are healthy you can pursue any legal actions.
  17. I'll invite you judy....anyone else you can find me at the same username:waitingpatiently
  18. I was banded 3/19 so I'm just about 4 weeks out. I had some other things done during surgery ( 2 hernias, a lot of adhessions removed) so I think I was a little more sore than most people that just have the band done. It took me an extra few days to bounce back. But the last two weeks have been great! I have been able to start adding exercise back into my schedule and between the 30 pounds lost (pre-op included), exercising, and eating the high protein low carbs....I feel 5 years younger!!! I'm not loosing the huge amounts like some people, but I still think its amazing that each morning I weigh less than the day before. I have set a goal that I would like to be at goal after 1 year. thats only an average of 1 pound a week from here out. That way I don't put a lot of pressure on myself to meet a unrealistic goal, and won't give up if I can't make it. All in all, this has ben the bst thing I have done for myself!! I wish I would have done it 2 years ago when I first thought about it.
  19. I don't think any thing is abnormal (or wrong). These first 4-6 weeks our bodies are still healing (I was banded on 3/19). I have noticed some days my body is retainning Water....might be the sodium content and scale will bonce all over the place. As to restriction, if you havent had your first fill yet, I wouldn't expect you to feel any restriction. I know I don't. Hang in there.....when we get the first few fills, Im sure we will start to notice a difference.
  20. Are you referring to weight watchers points? If you are, I think you need to just follow the doctors orders and not worry about points.
  21. Question about the dreamfield pasta. I have a box sitting in my pantry but I was afraid to try it.....When I started the low carb thing i was told I could substract the Fiber from the carb total for a net carb total. Dreamfields list it as digestable carbs.------Whats That!? Do we realy only have to could the "other carbs"
  22. Hi Debbie Welcome to our group!! There are a lot of great people on here. if you have any questions feel free to ask away.
  23. I'm about 4 weeks out as well (banded 3/19). I think that 15 pounds in 4 weeks is still good. I'm about the same. It still comes to about a 1/2 pound very day. We are still healing and aren't able to fully exercise to the best of our ability. I have sceduled my first fill for the 26th and I hope to see the scale move a little quicker but if it doesn't thats ok too. aslong as I am loosing a couple pounds a week I'm good. we will get there. Plus I have heard that if you don't weigh as much, the weight is slower to come off.
  24. That was a very sweet offer. I had been thinking the same thing....I had a lot of 18 that I was trying to give away to people.....I would much rather they go to other bansters that will be buying clothes every few months than giving them to goodwill............when a gatther another bunch together I will do the same thing. Thanks for the idea!
