aznurse4u reacted to Caradina in Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead!
I did the fast for 10 days. It really made me feel better and the effect continued to this day. The weird thing is that while i used to DETEST all veggies, I now crave them just plain, steamed veggies with a touch of sea salt.

I just came in to search about how many post surgery folks are into juicing! I watched Joe's movie today, and am really motivated! I am only 3+ months out, so I will be adding Protein in... any other good tips? My juicer arrives tomorrow!

I agree with the first post in that who cares what others think!! People are always going to have an opinion one way or another but ultimately it's your choice. If you think the procedure is a good fit for you to help you get healthy then go for it! I think there's a saying like "Those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter"...seems like it could apply here. Good luck on whatever you decide and know you have a support system here .

You can't think about what everyone else things... who cares what they think. YOUR health is the MOST important thing. There are policies in place for you to have time off for things like this. You have to make the best choice for you. The way I look at it I would rather have people talk about me for having the surgery than have them talk about me for dying young because I was obese. I think we all get a bit too wrapped up with how other people view us and forget about who is the most important person... and that is YOU. Do what is right, what will make you happy and what is going to make your life healthier and longer.

Your post reminded me of Smokey the Bear & his famous words, "Only you can prevent fires". Only you (atelux17) can do it. Do it for your health. Don't mind or pay attention to those around you, other than your support group. Stay healthy & God bless.

aznurse4u reacted to DuranFan1969 in Pre-Sleeve& Disheartened
Who cares what other people think - this is for YOU. All I know is I've never known anyone overweight who wasn't scrutinized for being over weight so heck if you're going to be scrutinized, at least let it be for the healthier of the 2 options.

The premier Protein shakes from costco rocks! No issues on the tummy here.
I bought some strawberry ones from online. After my leak, they are suppppppper sweet so if you want one, inbox me your address and I can send you one to try.
Otherwise the vanilla case from costco I think was about 25 usd. I think!

Us men can be stubborn knot heads sometimes. Especailly if it is not OUR idea. I raised the dickens with my wife for wanting a Roux N Y. I had many arguments and they all sounded logical to me. Then I went to a couple support meetings and somehow I melted down. My wife was shocked when I said I was interested for myself!
Wife is beaming from buying new clothes and her new energy. We are finding out we weren't that old after all!

aznurse4u reacted to gmanbat in Pant Size Going Down, Energy Going Up!
I had my surgery 2 weeks and 2 days from today. I went from an original weight of 330 down to 302 at time of surgery and now I am at 283. My pants went from 50 to 42. I have a great deal more energy, I even ran at the gym the other day with weights in my hands! I couldn't believe the energy. I kept waiting to hit the wall but it never came. I stopped for the sake of not overdoing it and paying later.
My goal is 220 and after that I will see if any more is needed. This is like going back in time, what fun!
Oh, yeah, no more diabetes, the disease that killed my father at age 46.

aznurse4u reacted to DebiC in Never Too Late
You don't say how old you are, but there are many here who are in their 50's and 60's. There are some age related forums listed-you might check into those.
I will be 57 next month, and thought I was too old. But after only losing 75lbs I feel like I'm 20 years younger!!

aznurse4u reacted to Shells in Hey Skinnies My Story Starts Painfully And Ends Painfully Lol But In A Good Way?
Ok so Tues Jan 24th I was on Clear liquids only-had Water and chicken broth throughout the day. I was so excited and felt prepared mentally and physically. I’m a Kaiser baby and my doctor didn’t require a 2 week liquid diet- just clears the night before 10oz of magnesium citrate. Around 6pm I took that and it tasted awful but whatevs. Around 11pm I went to go take a shower and scrub with the antibacterial scrub the bariatric team provided and I remember I had a quick urge to release and couldn’t. I went back in the shower and the Water felt so good from straining and I couldn’t wait to fall asleep. I raised my head to wash my face and closed my eyes…and woke up on the floor of the tub with my mom shaking me up (my brother heard me fall and woke up my parents), she’s talking and I can’t hear her or the shower. I was like-I fell asleep? I realized I fainted. The water was warm and I just felt so tired. I wanted to sleep there to be honest. I got up and told her I must have dozed off and needed to use the scrub before I get out (I can’t believe I still wanted to scrub lol) so I got up reached for the scrub and fainted again!! Mom caught me and slowly brought me down. I woke up and this time was worried, mom dressed me and my brother called 911.
I was freezing and my dad was holding me keeping me warm. Paramedics said my blood pressure was very low and I was dehydrated, the put an IV in me and drove to Kaiser ER where I had 4 bags of Fluid before I could go home. My dad did not want me to get the surgery after this but I was like if I’m not getting it tomorrow, I’m never going to put myself through this again I won’t get the surgery. Got home at 3a, slept till 7 then headed to Kaiser by 8:30. Greeted with more fluids! I was definitely not dehydrated anymore lol. Mom stayed with me till the ‘end’ of my old self. Surgery was scheduled at 11 but surgeon was concerned and kept me on fluids till almost 1, I was going crazy waiting!! My mom- she is my angel and rock. She kept me calm, patient and relaxed. Kaiser surgeon team- super friendly, polite and to the point. I felt ready and prepared…until 5 mins before surgery…Slowly I started feeling anxious, then worried, then panicky. The nurse dropped a bag of IV Fluid and for some reason I thought they would make a mistake on me and I was going to die! I started crying and shaking and I don’t fully understand why I got scared-I just did. I kept wondering-is this a mistake? Am I going to not wake up? My mom was trying so hard to help without her crying too because she wanted to ease my fear. The team came in one by one and introduced themselves and were very kind. Two of the girls walked me into the op room, held my hand and were extremely nice and honest- yes there is 1 in 100 chance of leaks but the surgeon has had none with his patients. The surgeon talked to me and said that there is no pressure, they want me to feel safe and know they will take care of me, they want me to be comfy, most of all they want me not to feel forced. They made me feel like I was not crazy and I appreciated that. I woke up in my hospital room and didn’t feel much pain, just sore like a truck ran over me. Didn’t really talk much at the hospital. Mom and dad were there and let me relax, slept the first day. Kept waking up nauseous and only slept every 2-3 hours or so, waking up to dry heave. At night the nurses had me walk and I did a lap, go back to bed and press the pain med button only after every walk. Other than that I didn’t need it. Went home the next night. Really sore, tender, it was a struggle to walk but gets easier.
Every day gets better. I do not regret this AT ALL super happy and ready for my journey. It’s been a crazy beginning but I learned that if I can do this, I can do anything I set my mind and heart to. I’m journaling my wl through youtube and recording my inches. I hope of your thinking of this, I would recommend the sleeve and if you have any questions I’m happy to help, let’s be friends!

aznurse4u reacted to Lissa in NSV shout outs
Couple of NSVs today.
I went to my PCP, who I haven't seen since April of this year, so before surgery. His nurses actually both commented on how much better I look now, but the nurse who took me into the exam room actually asked for my ID before she would believe it was me. She said my size has changed so much, but my demeanor (happy and smiling) was not what she remembered. The last time I was there, I was so sick I could barely walk or talk.
Second NSV, my best friends daughter came into town for a few days. I met them for dinner tonight and the daughter jumped up as I came walking to the table and told me that I look FANTASTIC! She couldn't stop telling me how great I look for quite a while!!! I just enjoyed and basked in the glory. If that's not motivation to keep working my sleeve, NOTHING will be!

Right now (pre-op) I really like the Premier chocolate shakes from costco (pre-made with 30g protein) but I've heard from a lot of people that things you liked before surgery you won't like after, so we'll see Do you have any of the unflavored Protein powder from unjury? I've heard people mix that in with their Water or other liquids to get Protein if they can't tolerate the shakes.< /p>
Good luck - hope you find something that can keep down!

Hi all. I am now down roughly 60 pounds and seven weeks out from when I started my liquid pre-diet. Am also having some awesome NSV moments. Some are:
No longer wearing 3x shirts. They are packed and ready to be taken to Goodwill. My size 48 (expandable) pants? Gone too. Can button my pants at my belly button. No more "slant pants." I wore a much smaller belt...and it was a new one! Went three days this past week without needing a mid day nap. Three days now without any slimes or throwing up. Joined a local health club to work out. Snoring is all but gone. No more BP meds at all (125/65 is normal now). And BMs much more normal and less stressful. Bought myself an I-touch. That was my 50 pound loss gift to myself. Any suggestions for the 100 plateau? That's a short list, but ones that come to mind.
Please, share yours!
Let's look at the fact that this journey is not just about the weight loss, but about all the wonderful things that continue to happen along the ride!

Wonderful Bob! I absolutely love this thread. My shouts outs so far:
* tossed all my size 2x - believe me, not even the Goodwill would want them.
* fit into Liz Claiborn 16WP jeans - tossed my 22WP - see above.
* able to go 1 hour vigorously on the treadmill and love doing it.
* rewarded myself w/a Sansun slot radio to keep me going while exercising.
* have more energy than I have had in years.
* vow never to wear black again unless it is lingerie.
* stopped caffeine, diet soda, sugar, flour, but haven't we all!

I'm sleeved! I am still in the hospital. I arrived at 6:15am this morning the nurses for me ready spoke with the dr and anesthesiologist. Then got wheeled back at 7:30 for surgery. Woke up about 930 real groggy but no real pain. So far just some discomfort but not too bad. I did have a loratab a few hours ago and I think it's wearing off but will probably wait till visiting hours are over and take another then so I can hopefully sleep tonight. I go home tomorrow around noon so they say. Right now I can get up and walk around, use the restroom etc. and just in case this is kinda all over the place I did mention I was on pain medication right. :-) will update again after I get home.
