For me, yeah I could've lost weight if I done the counting and the food restrictions, BUT I would cheat eventually and gain the weight right back ..( I have done that before and lost. 53 lbs) .the sleeve gives me the tools i needed to prevent myself from cheating, because if I want the big greasy cheeseburger and fries , I know that I can not eat it because it will make me sick and my stomach can not hold that much food. I now concentrate on getting nutrional foods instead of junk food , whereas before I would eat the cheeseburger and convince myself that I would lose it later or take a Vitamin for the nutrient difference. I was sleeved on June 21st and my type 2 diabetes is completely reversed A1 C levels are below normal and my blood pressure meds have been cut down 75% , an accomplishment that I have tried to do on my own for at least three years and could never do . I feel like the surgery saved my life , I already fell SO much better, even my back issues have improved. ( degenerative disc disease )

I decided to tell everyone, or plan to tell everyone. So far everyone has been supportive. I have not had one person say anything negative. Even if anyone had or does in the future I really don't give a damn quite frankly! I will just say politely " we can agree to disagree" and leave it at that! But seriously the positive and support people have been the best!!

I have been able lose weight. But I have never been able to keep it off. That is why I am choosing VSG - the restriction is an important tool for maintenance.

Wow I guess I am the only one who tells EVRYBODY! I mean family, friends, coworkers, bosses!
There hasn't been anyone I have felt like would deter my decision or that I would even care what they thought.
If a friend hadn't told me that she had it done I wouldn't have ever been here and been so happy. This is why I tell everyone.

Yes I've thought if only I could continue to eat and exercise I could lose this weight. But life throws curve balls and I love food and the social part that goes with eating food and for over 20 years I've not been able to stay on track other than to continue to gain and grow larger! This surgery is a tool to remind you physically you cannot eat with your eyes anymore.

I haven't got a set date yet but I asked the scheduler at my Dr office and she said realistically August 6 or 8 is the dates I am looking at! I should know by this coming Wednesday. I had my pre op appt July 12, no pre op diet is required. Had to have a sleep study (7/10/12) and EKG and chest X-ray (7/12/12). I started this process back in Oct 2011. I am just ready to be sleeved and be skinny again!!! In HIgh School I was athletic. I am 6'0 tall, back then I was 180 lbs. My highest weight that I've weight in at was 317. My pre op appt I was 290.

Tell her to come this site and see all the amazing transformations...she probably just doesn't know of anyone personally that has had wls. Most people are terrified based on hear say, rumors, etc. What's that saying, ignorance is bliss (?)...anyhoo I had friends like that. And now some are even considering wls.

I haven't told many people about my surgery. But I told one lady that I knew well at church a couple of months after my surgery because she is overweight and she was asking me about how I was losing my weight. Her husband works at the same company as I do so I knew her insurance would cover it. So I just felt it was right to tell her about the surgery. I said "I had WLS". Her reply "oh, my doctor said I am not near big enough for that". Mind you she is actually bigger than I was before surgery. I just replied "oh you would be surprised what they cover". Now when she sees me, she doesn't even speak to me.
What it boils down to is I did this for me and nobody else. These less-than-true friends getting out of my life will leave room for new real friends.

I had my surgery on Tues. May 15th and returned to work the following Monday.
I am a Hospice Nurse. I was just tired in the late afternoon, and I notice I go to bed a little earlier then prior to my surgery.

the first time I tried i tried to get approved and it was for a lap band about 3 years ago the same thing happened to me.I was missing 1 year of a weigh in at my pcp, never mind that I have 20+ years with this same pcp and plenty of records, but it wasnt in the 5 years time span that they required,so they denied my approval,i was so disgusted i gave up until later, and early this year and got approved, but this time for the sleeve,Im glad i waited to go thru the process again.

I hate when they say you took the easy way out. There is nothing easy about it,it is a tool that you are given to use along with diet and exercise to help with weight lose.but like anything else you use the tool wrong its not going to work

I have decided to be very open with my surgery! It's opened up some very awesome conversations with friends and strangers. The VP of HR reached out to me because she heard I was having the surgery. She had a RNY 12 years ago and we talked quite a bit about it today. She said something that really stuck with me...as women we have to share our experiences and be the role models for those to come. There are so many people out there who don't have support...I can't wait to be like her in 12 years

Tons of people on here have kept their surgery a secret. I chose not to, I told everyone -- my coworkers, friends, family, strangers -- I felt that I was comfortable enough with this that I didn't care what people thought. So far I haven't had any negativity, just tons of support. I have even had a few people who are going to check it out and see if they want to have it too!
Whatever you chose to do is a deeply personal decision and depends on your comfortableness with letting people know your personal affairs.

well i love my surgeon! he and his partner, Dr Monash are the best! Both are bariatric surgeons of Excellance, the hospitals that they perform the surgeries at are bariatric surgery centers of excellance also. We have a support group that meets the first sat of the month, for all kinds of bariatric surgeries, and we discuss allkinds of things and there is a free zumba class at the end of the meeting,
I cant say enough good things about them.

the difference between surgeons is really fascinating.I didnt have to do a pre-op diet at all.I did have to eat lite the day before surgery and then of course nothing 10 hrs before.and I have at no problems.,but i should note that I had pretty much given up fast foods before I even went to the surgeon,I mean I still ate them every now and then but not like before where I had fast food three times aday.since surgery on March 10 I have lost 35 pounds.and its awesome!
