Ask her, "what is the right way?" Then when she talks about diet and exercise, you can explain how you still need to do all of things.
    She will probably never understand.

SunnyCox got a reaction from Des0520 in Having Boy Problems, I Feel Bad For You Girl...
I may not have the most popular opinion, but I'm going to stick up for your boyfriend a little in thinking that he may be trying to help in his own way. The first time I talked to my SO about the need to diet, he made the same types of comments in an attempt to help. I quickly let them know that it wasn't helpful. It never happened again. Do you speak up in a kind, authoritative manner about his comments? Did you go workout with him? Maybe you should start.
For the record, he does sound like a bit of a jerk. Was he being subtle about not liking your weight or was your own self esteem twisting the things he said? Ask him how he feels. Have a good talk about it. Tell him how your weight makes you feel about having sex. If he understands, he may be able to do things that would make you more comfortable. He may not like your weight, but he has stayed with you and still wants to have sex. In my opinion, it obviously doesn't bother him so much that he doesn't want you!

SunnyCox got a reaction from kenni in Pcos Spironolactone Aka Aldactone
I used spironolactone too. It helped with my acne, but it did not reduce the hair growth.
I've also tried laser hair removal. I was told that if my Hair growth was due to a hormone imbalance that laser hair removal wouldn't be as effective. I had my entire body done. I have very little dark hair on my legs, genital area or under arms, but it did very little for my face.
If you do decide to go with laser hair removal, look for specials on Groupon. Be careful to chose a place that uses good lasers as they are not all created equally. Ask the clinic if they use YAG (darker skin) and/or Alexandrite (light / medium skin). The skill of the technician can make a difference too.

SunnyCox got a reaction from Territravel in 40 Hours Before Surgery And Starting To Get Cold Feet! Help!
I had cold feet up until the moment I scooted my big booty from the stretcher to the operating table. Then, I was out a minute later. I think it is normal to be excited and apprehensive.
The best part of being sleeved is that I am no longer a slave to food and hunger. Before I had surgery, I kept telling myself that I should be able to diet on my own. I kept failing. I felt like a failure. Once I came here, I realized a lot of people had those same feelings. They thought they should be able to do it on their own. Now that I am sleeved, food doesn't control me. I am in charge of what I eat. I don't feel like I am starving. I don't constantly reach for something to eat. I don't have the desire to graze, eat sweets, or stuff myself. I can go shopping and pick healthy choices for dinner and be satisfied. I also realize that I can eat not so healthy choices on occasion, but I eat them in moderation. I feel so in control of myself in a way I never did while dieting pre-sleeve.

SunnyCox got a reaction from Dooter in Increase In Migraines- Is It Surgery, Or Is It Me?
In the past, when I have done low carb diets, it would bring on Migraines. I would also get them if I was dehydrated or had gone a long time without food. I'm not sure why. I have only had one since surgery on June 28, and it was when I started on Clear liquids.
I use an Rx med, zomig. It is the only med that has ever helped me, and I have tried several. It even works several hours after my Migraine start which is different than a lot of meds where you must take them immediately when the migraine starts.

No food funerals. I did this a few times by going to my favorite restaurants thinking that I would never be able to eat a certain food again.. Now, I wish I hadn't. I realize that I am going to be able to have lots of foods, but I'll be able to eat them in moderation instead of the entire plate.

SunnyCox got a reaction from kmwheel in What To Take - Modified For Mexico?
I flew non-stop from Dallas to San Diego via Spirit Airlines (3 hour flight). Spirit is the budget airline that charges you for carry on bags. You can carry one personal item onto the flight. Personal items can be up to the size of a book bag. I brought my college book bag which has a laptop pouch built in. I had someone come with me for surgery, so he was able to carry the bag onto the plan for the flight home. If you are going alone, I would suggest a bag with wheels since you won't be able to lift too much weight.
My bag was completely stuffed. I did not go shopping for souvenirs while on my trip, but if you do, you may want to plan some extra space to ensure you have room to bring things home.
A book bag is pretty small. Here is exactly what I packed:
    Laptop, charger and ear buds
Quart size zip-lock bag with the following toiletries: (3oz Shampoo, 3oz conditioner, deodorant, travel size tooth paste, bar soap, 3oz mouth wash).
Quart size make-up bag (minimal make-up, hair brush, toothbrush, pantyliners)
Medications (about 3 pill bottles plus gas strips)
Heating pad (I didn't find this necessary, but I did use it to try to relieve gas)
    Cell phone and charger
Wallet and passport (I left my purse at home and just took the essentials in my wallet which I packed in the small outer pocket of the book bag with my phone for convenient access)
Two travel space bags (these are the little bags that use suction to compress your clothes. If you buy the travel space bags, you don't need a vacuum to create suction. You simply pack your clothes in the bag, seal it like a zip lock bag, then sit on it to push out the extra air). For clothing:

7 underwear (really, really glad I had a couple extra pairs)
nightgown (not needed if you don't mind the hospital gown)
loose fitting pants (sweat pants, which I wore under the hospital gown)
two additional pairs of slacks (I only wore one of the two pairs)
    four shirts
pair of thick slipper socks (never wore)

Some things that I did not pack:
Shoes & socks - I wore flip flops onto the plane, around the hospital and hotel. They were easier to slip on than the slipper socks that I brought. The hospital provided a pair of slippers, but they were too big for me. (See the above post about Ted hose having holes at the toes)
Hair dryer - I have long hair, and I was glad that another patient who had surgery the same day I did had brought a blow dryer which she let me borrow (Thanks, Jennifer!). I washed my hair the day I left and once after surgery. The hotel (Lucerna for Dr. Kelly) provided a blow dryer.
Sports bra - I wear a 40F, so I need the support. I didn't pack an extra bra, and the one I wore on the plane had an underwire. Luckily, Jennifer gave me one of her extra sports bras which I didn't need until it was time to leave the hospital. I wore it the entire time I was at the hotel and a few days after I got home)

I do not use my laptop during flights. I don't find the tray table to be very comfortable at my size. I was happy to have it while in Mexico to communicate with people at home, read the news/Facebook, and to watch videos on Hulu & Netflix.

SunnyCox got a reaction from Pre-OpLoser619 in So Conflicted...
Being sleeved is an entirely different world for me. I can be mindful of what I eat! It is not constantly on my mind. I rarely crave things I shouldn't have. I can stop as soon as I feel full. Even if I eat something unhealthy, I can eat well at my next meal (which used to derail previous diets in a heart beat!)
I would consider how likely you are to drop your diet or exercise if you were stressed, sad, overworked, or just busy with life. What happens when the NUT goes away? How likely would you be able to keep up what you are doing for a lifetime? Right now, the sleeve holds me accountable for how much I can eat at one time, and for that, I am grateful.

SunnyCox got a reaction from Kraze Gamer Girl in What Am I Doing Wrong? Im At A Stall And Im 4 Weeks Post-Op On Tuesday. Been On A Stall For The Las 2 Weeks Almost.
I stalled two weeks out from surgery. Gained 2lbs and held steady for 8 days. At day 6, I increased my Water intake and started taking the Vitamins I was supposed to be taking from the beginning. I think both things helped me, and by day 8, I started losing again. Since then, I started exercising to ensure that I keep losing. I think we are all going to go through stalls no matter what we do. Eventually, the scale will start moving downward again.
My PCP gave me two tidbits of advice to prevent stalls:

If I am dehydrated or lacking sufficient nutrients / Vitamins, my body would hold on to my extra weight to try to ensure it gets what it needs.
If I would do some form of simple exercise (even walking in 10 min bursts), it would take me longer to reach stalls.

Yes. Ignore him! He's having to adjust to your changes and you're dumping hormones like a crazy person right now. Those hormones will make you insane for a bit. If he wants to eat hot dogs, let him. He's only hurting himself. Once your weight loss starts showing and he sees that you are serious about adopting new, healthier habits, hopefully he'll get on the healthy bandwagon. But, you don't want to make any significant changes until you know that your hormone levels have evened out.
At that point, I'll be your cheerleader if you smack him upside the head, but family members have a tendency to irritate the tar out of us, especially in those early post-op months because WE are out of whack.
    Good luck!

I am only 10 days post op, and I made spaghetti for my cousin's family a few nights ago. I mourned knowing that I will never eat a huge plate of spaghetti and 3-4 pieces of bread.
What did make me feel better is knowing that one day, I will be able to eat a child's size portion and feel just as stuffed as gorging on that huge plate I used to make. I think I will be completely satisfied with eating the amount my body needs and not the amount my head wants.
