  1. I may not have the most popular opinion, but I'm going to stick up for your boyfriend a little in thinking that he may be trying to help in his own way. The first time I talked to my SO about the need to diet, he made the same types of comments in an attempt to help. I quickly let them know that it wasn't helpful. It never happened again. Do you speak up in a kind, authoritative manner about his comments? Did you go workout with him? Maybe you should start. For the record, he does sound like a bit of a jerk. Was he being subtle about not liking your weight or was your own self esteem twisting the things he said? Ask him how he feels. Have a good talk about it. Tell him how your weight makes you feel about having sex. If he understands, he may be able to do things that would make you more comfortable. He may not like your weight, but he has stayed with you and still wants to have sex. In my opinion, it obviously doesn't bother him so much that he doesn't want you!
  2. No horror story here either. I had some pretty intense pain the day of surgery. By the next morning (less than 24 hours later), I was fine even though I was a bit tired. I was back at work within a week.
  3. You'll still have food. It is never going to go away. Within a week post-op, I was sad about cooking spaghetti for my family. I kept thinking that I would never be able to eat a big plate of spaghetti again. Then, it hit me. I will be able to eat spaghetti again. I'll have a child's size portion one day, and I'll be satisfied like I was never satisfied before. I won't be eating two huge helpings, four pieces of garlic bread and two cokes in one setting. I feel good about what I eat. I am not gorging myself on huge restaurant portions. It is kind of nice being the person at the table that eats the petite portion. I like to secretly think that the other women are jealous of me because I eat so little (because I used to feel a twinge of jealousy that all my thin cousins would eat half as much as I did at a meal!) I no longer feel as though I am wasting food when I can't eat an entire portion. I don't have the desire to finish off every last little bit. I also don't need dessert. My tastes are already changing. I'm not stopping for fast food. I'm searching out fresher, tastier foods that I didn't appreciate as much pre-op. I have become a food explorer. I've been trying new fruits and vegetables from the frou frou grocery store with all the fancy food! I'm cooking Thai food at my house - something that I've never done before. I want to play with spices and fresh herbs. Don't be afraid, a whole new food adventure is coming!
  4. I've kept up with your story. I usually skip the posts about Dr. Garcia since I went with Dr. Kelly,so I actually heard about your story while I was in Mexico. After surgery, I came to the boards to read your experience. I am so glad you are doing well. I hope things only continue to get better.
  5. This is something I read on the forum before I had surgery, and I used it with my partner when he had reservations about the surgery after our discussion: I have already decided to have the surgery. Whether you agree or disagree with me, what I need from you is your support. If you can't give me your support, please don't say anything that will dishearten me. He wasn't completely against the surgery, but he thought it was too drastic and was scared. He wanted to talk to me about dieting and exercising. (This was coming from someone who has never weighed more than 170lbs and has a single digit body fat percentage.) I told him that I've tried so many diets, and he told me that I could try harder. When he met the surgeon, Dr. Kelly in Mexico, he even asked Dr. Kelly if he could leave more of my stomach than just a sleeve. Dr. Kelly told him that taking out half of the stomach wouldn't provide me with the same benefit. Luckily, Dr. Kelly is more available than many US physicians for his patients. The night before surgery, I was already checked into the hospital, but my partner, Dr. Kelly, his assistant, and two family members of other patients went to dinner. I think my partner got the opportunity to talk to Dr. Kelly about all his fears and have all his questions answered. Since surgery, some of his fears have subsided. He is much more supportive and understanding. I hope the same happens with your family, so they can Celebrate your successes with you!
  6. One of the reasons I decided to go with Dr. Kelly was the Hotel Lucerna. I didn't want to recover in a group situation either, but I found that I enjoyed the company of the other girls who were sleeved the same day and their companions more than I ever believed I would. The Hotel Lucerna is very beautiful and comfortable. Omar and Dr. Kelly will come to the hotel to check on you. My suggestion is to find someone else who is going at the same time. You might be able to find someone on the forum. For Dr. Kelly, I am sure if you called Omar, he could put you in contact with someone else who is coming alone and could use a buddy.
  7. That pill is probably aldactone (spironolactone). It is a diuretic. I was on it for acne and facial hair. It helped clear up the acne, but I still have the facial hair. I stopped taking it prior to surgery, and I never restarted.
  8. I've never heard of Lending Club. I used Dr. Kelly, but Drs. Almanza and Garcia seem to have a lot of happy patients on the forum. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. Can you not go alone for surgery with Dr. Almanza?
  9. I went back to shakes only. Dropped to 249. Hope it keeps moving down.
  10. I might be wrong, but I don't think he finances. I know people who have gone through CareCredit.

I love Italian food too! My partner orders the fettuccine alfredo with extra chicken. I picked the chicken out and having a little bit of sauce on the meat made it extra delicious!
  13. I also add sugar free pudding or jell-o mix plus a packet of sweetner. It still doesn't taste all that great to me even doctored up. I love the ranch powdered dip mix idea! I sometimes eat it in place of sour cream on my taco casserole.
  14. I had cold feet up until the moment I scooted my big booty from the stretcher to the operating table. Then, I was out a minute later. I think it is normal to be excited and apprehensive. The best part of being sleeved is that I am no longer a slave to food and hunger. Before I had surgery, I kept telling myself that I should be able to diet on my own. I kept failing. I felt like a failure. Once I came here, I realized a lot of people had those same feelings. They thought they should be able to do it on their own. Now that I am sleeved, food doesn't control me. I am in charge of what I eat. I don't feel like I am starving. I don't constantly reach for something to eat. I don't have the desire to graze, eat sweets, or stuff myself. I can go shopping and pick healthy choices for dinner and be satisfied. I also realize that I can eat not so healthy choices on occasion, but I eat them in moderation. I feel so in control of myself in a way I never did while dieting pre-sleeve.
  15. I find that my drinks have to stay cold for me to enjoy them, and the broth had to stay pretty warm. For Protein drinks.. Make smaller portions Add ice Use the ready to drink shakes and put them in the freezer half an hour before drinking so they are slushy. When taking a break in drinking, put them back in the freezer so they stay cool. For broth, I used one of those candle warmers hot plates to help it stay warm.
  16. I think the best part of surgery is not feeling so hungry. I can chose to eat healthy foods because I don't have the same cravings nor desire to shovel food into my mouth. Here is a great blog with recipes. I've tried a few, and I love it! http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/
  17. I am also using Flinstone chewables, but I use the tablets and not the gummies. I take two at a time. They do have thiamin (B1). They are not making me sick. I liked the taste at first. Now that I am near the end of the bottle, I don't like them as much. I have a bottle of Once-A-Day Vitacraves which are gummies. They make a lot of different sub-types of Vitacraves, but I don't believe any of them have thiamin. I take the Bariatric Advantage B-50 complex in addition to my multi vitamin, so I am sure that I get enough in. These have not made me feel sick, but I was also recommended against using the gummy form of Vitamins.
  18. I also get sick from the Bariatric Advantage multiple vitamin. Other brands haven't made me sick in the past, so I am probably going to switch to something else.
  19. I do agree that it would be better to leave everything at home, but in case you don't, many US hospitals will have a safe place to keep your rings. I had an outpatient surgery where I went alone a few years ago, and security came down to take my purse, money and jewelry. They made an inventory list and returned them to me when I asked them for it.
  20. Egg salad Refried beans Thick cream soups Thinly shaved deli meats
  21. While everyone is different, I was back at work seeing patients within a week. I do not have to move or transport patients. I see them in my office and am primarily behind a desk or at the bedside for the day. I kept a bottle of water with me and put a few premixed shakes in the fridge. I think it is doable, but it would depend on what you were going to be doing for the day.
  22. I started my preop diet on 6/21 at 279lbs and surgery on 6/28, and I have been in a stall since 7/23. I've gone up and down about 3 pounds, but I haven't dropped below 251 One of my friends suggested going back to Clear liquids, so I am going to try only full liquids this week to see if I can keep moving down. I'll let you know how it works.
  23. In the past, when I have done low carb diets, it would bring on migraines. I would also get them if I was dehydrated or had gone a long time without food. I'm not sure why. I have only had one since surgery on June 28, and it was when I started on Clear liquids. I use an Rx med, zomig. It is the only med that has ever helped me, and I have tried several. It even works several hours after my migraine start which is different than a lot of meds where you must take them immediately when the migraine starts.
  24. No food funerals. I did this a few times by going to my favorite restaurants thinking that I would never be able to eat a certain food again.. Now, I wish I hadn't. I realize that I am going to be able to have lots of foods, but I'll be able to eat them in moderation instead of the entire plate.
