  1. it took me about 2 months till I actually appriciated the sleeve. from about week 2 till the end of week 8 I would cry sometimes because I got the surgery....a bad case of buyers remorse. After everything was healed and I was able to tolerate regular foods, as well as drinking without getting sick I felt so much better. Now I am 10 months out and I am so used to the way my sleeve is that it is just second nature to stop eating when I now I will be full....and losing the weight will definatly help you feel better! there are all sorts of ways to get your protein in, just find one that works for you. I found some protein shots at walmart that work for me. 26 grams of protein, no carbs and 120 calories each. its quick and easy and I dont have to worry about not getting enough protein anymore. also I found it hard to get down a whole protein shake at first so just having a few sips to drink worked so much better for me. I hate the taste, but love the easy route! good luck!
  2. there are always risks of complications for any surgery. Everyone will have a different story to tell because we all feel pain at different levels. Mine was very minimal. However I made sure to take all the pain meds offered. I am a firm believer in them! As far as feeling normal, on the 4th day out from surgery I was able to take my kids to the park, lay on the concrete on my stomach and draw with chalk with my daughter. I couldnt imagine doing that 4 days after having a c-section! good luck!
  3. I had 5.....if the doc uses a drain you will have 6...otherwise 5 is normal.
  4. woo-hoo! doing the happy dance for you! keep up the good work!!
  5. I would wait till after. I know I lost almost all of my butt....I would hate for you to have this done and then at the end you have lost so much that you need it again. I am having plastics done now for my deflated stomach, boobs and thighs. good luck!
  6. I did the exact same thing. I put my whole family first before me...but what I didnt realize was that I was depriving them of the very essance of me because I didnt want to go anywhere or do anything for fear of those other people judging me. Before I gained weight I was this person who did everything, and I realized that my children didnt really know the real me....the person who went skating and swimming and danced when nobody else was dancing. Every day know my kids are discovering something new about me. My oldest daughter said to me the other day that I got girly since I have lost weight. I told her I was always girly....its just harder when your bigger for others to see it. She also told me I laughed more and she likes it. That made me smile. If you put yourself first this time....it will mean the difference of just being there for the kids vs actually participating with them. You go get it girl! I wish the best for you and all others that are on the fence!
  7. you are welcome. wish you the best of luck! oh and btw I lost that weight from may 22nd to august 15th. so losing the amount you need to in 2 months is totally workable!
  8. I am 10 months out now and had a ruff patch a few months ago, where I was pretty non compliant with the diet and protein. I pretty much thought that I didnt really need to do what the doc said. I found out the hard way that the weight stopped coming off like it did when I followed the rules. We are all human and bound to make mistakes, just try to learn from them, and move on. dont beat yourself up over it. you will succeed if you really want it! smile
  9. I lost 37 pounds pre op doing slim fast shakes for breakfast and lunch....500 calories or less for dinner, and 3-100 calorie snacks in between each meal time. good luck!
  10. I dont really like any of the powders. I can tollerate the pre mixed stuff better, but not much. I prefer just to buy the protein shots(hate the taste too) but I can chug them down fast and my protein is done. 27 g a shot. good luck
  11. yes.....you sound like your blood sugar was low....or you were dehydrated.(or mabye both) make sure to get those liquids in, especially after a workout. I do get light headed from time to time when standing but that is due to low blood pressure. If this happens to you, just get up from a sitting or lying position slowly, to give your bp time to adjust. good luck!
  12. So happy to be able to help those that are in the beginning of the journey, and to be able to connect with those who are coming to the end of theirs too. It is so much easier alnog the way when you have someone to share these emotions with . I smile a lot more these days! Hope you all are too!
  13. congrats on getting sleeved...make sure to take lots of pictures along the way...it makes it easier for you to see the loss when you look back at them, it also gives you more inspiration. good luck through your journey!
  14. I was so lucky that when I went in for the lap band seminar the doctor told me about the vsg....because before the seminar I was dead set on the lap band. I also respect those woman that are comfortable at whatever size they are. Unfortunatly I was not one of those woman. I really felt horrible about myself. I once went on a trip to mexico with my husband and he wanted to go horse back riding. I was so worried that the horse was going to collapse right under me, with all his legs going outward...it didnt, we took a picture together. when I got home I showed the picture to one of my co-workers...he started laughing, then he said, "oh my gosh it looks like the horses eyes are gonna pop out." He truely thought he was being funny. I went into the bathroom and cried for almost an hour. The way that man obviously felt about a woman who was overweight was how I felt everyone was really thinking about me all the time. There was never a time that I was not worried about someone judging me because of my weight. I am so thankful to not worry about it all the time anymore. I still have the fat womans brain, so every now and then I have those old feelings pop up out of no where, but then I realize that I am not morbidly obese anymore, and people dont see the old me anymore. I truely feel like I can do whatever I want now without people looking at me like I am out of place. It is truely freeing. Good luck to you on your journey!
  15. I think we all do. Our brains didnt get changed...just our tummys. I make sure not to say that I CANT ever have the tempting foods. If I want it then I will have it, just about 1/4 of the amount I used to eat, and then I make sure that I watch what I have for the rest of the day. I had a very tiny piece of chocolate cake last week, and after about 2 bites my craving was eased and I threw the rest away.....yup thats right...I threw it away! lol the more we say we cant have it the more we want it. just use moderation....good luck!
  16. I have been looking back at some old pictures of myself at the heaviest weight that I was....and I cant help but want to cry for that woman I see in the pictures. I remember how sad she was. She hated herself everytime she looked in the mirror. She felt judged everytime she ate in public, or did anything in public. She felt like she didnt belong in her own family because they were all thin, and she was so fat. She felt so desperatly trapped, and didnt know what to do to get out. I dont miss her, I just feel sad for her, and want to cry for her because it took so long to get out of her prison. Now the person that I am is a free woman. No longer am I scared to eat in public, or be seen with my family. I love shopping, and dont feel like all the skinny women in stores are asking why I even bother shopping. I have energy, and sass. I want to do everything now....no more hiding! I am sexy, and my husband cant keep his hands off of me !!!! For anyone who is unsure if they should take this drastic measure to get everything back, and stop being in your own prison......DO IT! My only regret is that I didnt free that woman sooner. Thank God for the sleeve!
  17. I was barely able to get anything down the first week. I buy the pure protein shots at wallmart for about 8 bucks for 6 of them. they have 27 grams of protein a shot. I hate the taste of them, but it is small enough that I can get them down in one gulp and then I dont really worry about the rest of the day because I make sure to eat protein first. you wont be able to drink it in one gulp till you are about 3 months out at least though, otherwise it will hurt, and probably come back up right away. good luck!
  18. all I know is the US side. I will say that after I was released from the hospital after 2 days I never went back to the surgeon again. (im so bad) I have had follow up labs with my primary doc though. so as far as after care--I didnt need any. good luck!
  19. I had my shorts fall completely down on me when I got out of the truck a few months ago, thankfully I was in my own driveway and the only people that saw were my kids. I think it scarred my poor son though! lol
  20. it will come off soon enough. just keep smiling and dont stress yourself out over it. I always would drop about 8 pounds in the week after my tom for the first 5 months. good luck!
  21. I stayed in the hospital for 2 days, after that I didnt drive until I was off the pain meds which was in about 4 days. my hubby didnt have to take care of me though....other then drive me places. I was able to take care of everything else. my kids were 8,12, and 16 at the time, so they were a little older then yours. good luck!
  22. my feet are definatly smaller. I was a 11 in womans and now I can fit anywhere between a 9.5 to a 10.5....so I am happy, even though they are still big for a woman.
  23. some incisions are higher then others...mine were all in the upper area too. I was able to wear jeans right out too. everyone is right in saying that everyday gets better and better. I felt like the weight came off of my face the fastest too, which I loved. congrats on getting sleeved!
  24. such a wonderful feeling! congrats on getting there so fast! keep up the great work!
