  1. Not to be negative, but I had heard through the company I'm going through that a young woman just died in Calgary a few weeks ago after VSG in Tijuana. I've searched for info relentlessly, but haven't found a word. Have you guys heard anything about this? I think its important for VSGers and hopefuls to learn from incidents like this.
  2. Mine was so easy, it all took about 2 weeks! ...besides the 2 weeks of myself freaking out whether I should do it or not! I am self pay though. I basically went and talked to my doctor, she did my ECG and blood work, I took it to the company I'm going through, waited a week to get approved, then booked!
  3. Hey everyone! I've been posting on these forums for a few weeks now, and I just want to thank everyone for being so supportive and for answering so many questions from a sleeve newbie. I had so many reservations about this surgery as a "lower" BMI patient, especially having struggled with diets my whole life, and believing that maybe one more diet would be the magic answer. HOWEVER, I am proud to announce that I have solidified my surgery date today! I will be getting sleeved on December 13th in TJ by Dr. Pompa at the LIMARP surgical centre. I am SO excited, but nervous as well. I am very scared of the actual surgery, as I have never had anything done, ever! I just want it to be done, for the pain to be over and to be on the other side! Wish me luck!
  4. Good luck! Keep us posted on your progress.
  5. Anyone else going to TJ at that time?
  6. Hey MissE! I am going to TJ through WeightLossForever to Dr. Pompa Gonzalez at the LIMARP Surgical Unit. I am getting my surgery on December 13th! My dad and my aunt have both been down to TJ for their surgeries and have had amazing results. I can't wait! Enough of this dieting. I would like to lose a bit of weight before surgery to get a jump start, but the thought of going on another diet (surely my 1000th) is enough to make me ill!
  7. So, I have been approved, I have my financing in place, but I just can't take the plunge! I was standing in line to get my bank draft written up, got to the teller, and when she was just about done, I told her to cancel it and ran away. I am nervous. I'm nervous that I've never had surgery. I'm nervous that maybe I can lose the weight on my own this time. I'm nervous that I'm not big enough and people will judge me for not being able to do it on my own. I'm scared of scars on my tummy. I'm scared of never being able to eat again. UGH! How can a person want soeething so bad, but not be able to do it on their own? Also, if this is the answer, why am I freaking out?! Does anyone here have any regrets? Any precautions?
  8. Dreamy- Let me know how everything goes! I have been approved and will hopefully head down Mid-December!
  9. Will my hair grow back after it falls out? I have a BMI of 30, since I won't drastically lose a ton of weight, will it still happen?
  10. Hey everyone! I was just approved today for my VSG. I am self-paying to TJ and couldn't be more excited! Last year, in my grand tradition of trying every fad diet out there, I bought some Visalus Shake mix from a co-worker. I really never used it (who knew not eating solids wouldn't work in the long term?!). What I am wondering now, is if its an adequate mix to use during my beginning phase? Or should it just be one on the side, rather than a main mix?
  11. Thanks for the advice! Like you, right now I fluctuate between a tight 10 and a 12. Its so frustrating, from all my losing and gaining (my whole life) I have everything from a size 4-12 in my closet. I'm all over the place week to week, month to month. I also carry my weight really well, people would never really guess I'm obese, just overweight. I'm the second highest I've ever been right now at 183 lbs. I was 205 when I was a child. I am self paying, going through a company in Canada called Weight Loss Forever. They use Dr Pompa in TJ at the LIMARP Centre. My dad and aunt have both had this done with amazing results and life changes. I can't wait for my turn! Who are you going through?
  12. haha ok, please explain the liver thing? crazy, we're pretty much jn the same boat!
  13. It just feels so premature for me to be behaving this way, since I haven't even been approved. Maybe I'm trying to guarantee a higher BMI so I qualify? It seems more justifiable if my surgery was scheduled, or just around the corner!
  14. I have a BMI of 30 and am currently trying to get approved to go down to Mexico for vsg. I am so excited, I want this so bad! However, I am completely out of control with my eating. All day long all night long. I'm also drinking too much. Anyone else have this experience? I feel disgusting, but I can't stop.
  15. I haven't yet. I am still in the phase of getting my blood work and everything to the company I am going through. I am a very similar case to you though in weight, and I am so grateful for stumbling across your story! It gave me the courage to go through with this.
  16. I am in the same boat as you with a BMI in the low 30's. I have found many people on here who seem to have had the surgery with low BMIs and much success. From what I understand you will lose your weight, but it can just come off slower than someone who would be morbidly obese. Read further down to hear lots of stories of lower BMI people!
  17. Thanks guys, there's so much to think about! Will one more diet/excercise regime work? Is this too extreme? Will people judge me? I am still not sure what I'm going to do, but at least I know there's people who have been in my shoes, and who are supportive.
  18. I am going through the same thing right now! With a lower BMI its so easy to always fall back into the diet mentality of "maybe THIS diet will finally work!"
  19. I have heard about the balloon, but I feel that this is just like going on another diet, as its not permanent. How many times have we all made the "lifestyle changes" required of us, only to crash and burn amd start right back where we were?
  20. OOPS!! I meant 29 or 30! Edited.
  21. Hey everyone! This is my first post in the forum! Where to start? I am 26 years old, with a BMI around 29 or 30. To look at me you wouldn't think I am obese or anything, just overweight. I grew up as an obese child and have since lost 50 lbs, but keep on putting back the same 10, 20, 30 lbs back on my body. ITs so frustrating. To lose I feel that I basically need to starve myself and I gain back so quickly. Even though I'm only 26, I bet I have gained and lost 250 lbs over the course of my life! I have been dieting since I was 9, and thoughts of my weight, food, and how my clothes will fit consume my thoughts everyday. I feel as if I am insane sometimes. I can literaly gain and lose 20 lbs in a month. I can't imagine what I'm doing to my body, and I just can't diet anymore. I am consdering getting the VS survery. My dad had it as a severely obese man and is doing amazingly, but I am afraid to talk to my parents about it. I know they think I am not overweight enough. Has anyone else been in this situation? I know I'm ready, and I want to better myself and my life. I know this will just be a vicious cycle that will continue for the rest of my life. I need some guidance and thoughts. Thanks so much, and I look forward to getting to know some of you!
