Important Lesson On Beating Ourselves Up!
Hey guys, Its been awhile since I've posted until today, but I wanted to share something with the group that has really helped me. I have been feeling very discouraged with my surgery progress so far. I started at about 192 lbs, and am currently sitting at about 155 (give or take up and down a few lbs). Its REALLY hard for me to get down below this weight (this was my old skinny weight), as I now have to start trying extra hard, and pushing myself to exercise more. I also love my wine. Anyway, I have really been getting down on myself, and today I decided to listen to a support podcast that the company I had VSG through gives to their clients. The entire topic was about how we have all come SO far, but yet we all seem to focus on the negative and how much farther we still have to go. She spoke of patients who had lost 120 lbs, but could only still focus on the extra weight that still had to come off. She then asked us all to think about how we would have felt about ourselves and our current weight situation post VSG when we were pre-op. Could that person who lost 120 lbs have even fathomed that before? Probably not. We, along with our tool have made this our reality, and let's savour it! Even if we do give in once in awhile and have those chips, or the scale doesn't move for a week or so, remember : WE ARE IN THE 1% of people who can actually lose it! I know if you would ahve told pre-VSG me that I would lose nearly 40 lbs, and maintain a steady size 6 I would have jumped for joy. Old me could have got there, but would have promptly balooned up and put the weight back on. I could never have imagined getting to this steady size, even if I still feel like I have another 15 lbs to lose. I went on Facebook today and looked at pics of all my progress: Wow, have I gotten thinner month by month! I tried on clothes that used to be my "skinny clothes". They all fit or were baggy! AMAZING, but yet, I still focus on the negative. I will change this, I will curb it. I urge you all to look back at your incredible progress and revel in our victories- we've come a long way baby!

Post Surgery Alcohol Use :(
I am struggling with this right now as well, and I believe my dad who is also a VSG'er is too. I can easily do a bottle of wine by myself and want to- often. Don't know how to stop it.

Scars & Bikini?!
I am going to get pure zinc to put on my scars when I go away! Also, in tanning beds I cover up my stomach so no rays can get at them!

Scars & Bikini?!
Hey guys, I was sleeved in December, and am headed to Punta Cana for a friends wedding in 2 weeks. Some of my friends know about the surgery, but many people who I went to high school with who will be there have no idea. What have you guys done for scar minimization? Mine are still kinda reddish. I have been exfoliating them often, which really helps. Any suggestions?

Younger Sleevers
I'm 26, and have lost 34 so far, but I had about 45-50 lbs to lose,so I'd say I'm doing well. My skin feels saggy, but I think that's from YEARS of yoyo dieting. Also, I am not diligent with water and excercise.

Primal Or Paleo
Anyone interested should watch this video. This woman actually cured herself of MS by eating a paleo diet modified to take in the maximum amounts nutrients. I truly believe that Our modern high carb low fat diet is what is killng our society. I am currently doing. High fat low carb diet and I have had very, very little hunger (which had actually been a problem for me since being sleeved), and my weight loss has been great! If you're interested, also check out the documentary "Fathead". It's basically Gary Taubes' "Good Calories, Bad Calories" in a nutshell.

Alcohol After 6 Weeks Out?
I have had alcohol since about 4 weeks out and I haven't died.... yet. I find I get a little drunker off of wine faster, and I DEFINITELY do with hard alcohol. I think it has something to do with how little I am able to eat now. I If you want to have one, just know it can irritate your scar line, and that your liver is healing. It is a personal choice only you can make!

Nsv!
I am so happy for everyone here that has had success! This is how we were meant to be- not always having that visious cycle of hunger, feeling out of control, guilt and shame. I feel very free and not stressed or anxious about my weight or appearance or portions. It is so freeing and so wonderful! Congrats to you too Dorrie and Abacoraveness! Texasgirl- good luck with your surgery! It will be amazing for you

Nsv!
Put on my calf-high boots today for the first time in FOREVER! I feel like a kid in a candy store - everything fits! On a more health related note, excercising feels a million times easier. I am actually back to enjoying running and sweating again! My attitude towards food has totally changed as well. I still like it, but I am quite indifferent as to my portions and what I can eat, where as before I wouldn't be able to top thinking about putting that last bite into my already full belly! This is how I always wanted to eat, and how was meant to be. I am so excited for everyone scheduled for and considering this surgery! Best thing I have ever done.

High Protein, Low Carb Pancakes!
I have started doing a HFLC (high fat, low carb) diet with my sleeve. The results have been AMAZING so far. I have had great weight loss, and also I am very satiated all the time. When I was eating carbs I definitely felt much more hunger, and I felt it soon after eating. I made this recipe this am, and it turned out great! Even if you aren't low-carbing it, its a great alternative to traditionjal pancakes, and it'll keep you full all morning long! http://comfybelly.com/2009/02/fluffy-coconut-flour-pancakes/

How Soon Can I Resume Intercourse After Surgery?
I think I waited 5 or 6 days? Depends how you feel! Just take it easy.

Alcohol!?
I am the exact same way! I maybe get a little bit drunker, but I attribute that up the fact there's usually not food in my tummy!
