NurseDana got a reaction from Holly Dolly in This Is Why I Love My Band!
Yesterday was just a band loving kind of day for me. My son and I went to Worlds of Fun, and amusement park in Kansas City that is about 3 hours from us. First of all, since eating in the car is not a great idea, I didn't indulge eat anything the whole way there. BB (before band) I would have loaded up on Snacks and soda to have while driving. Second of all, I have not gone to amusement parks for years, partly because I was deathly afraid I wouldn't fit in a roller coaster and that would be beyond humiliating for me. Next, instead of roasting outside wearing short sleeves and pants, I was feeling nice and cool in a tank top and (Bermuda) shorts...which I would not have been caught dead in a year ago. Not to mention the tank was a medium and the shorts were a 10, which are sizes I have never in my life worn until now! Lastly, while I did have a few different things to eat at the park, I did not gorge myself like I would have BB. I had a few bites of funnel cake here, a little bit of popcorn there...and I felt satisfied and not deprived at all. Okay, maybe I felt slightly deprived because I heart soft pretzels more than anything and they had ridiculously big ones there that I would love to have devoured, but it was not worth my money to buy one only to eat a few bites. So I didn't, and that was okay. I also walked around the park for 10 hours and was not particularly tired and my feet didn't even really hurt.
The moral of the story is, while there has been a...learning curve...7 months out and 84 pounds down....I love my band!

I have to remind myself what is real truth is. yes, I ate things that I thought tasted good BUT I couldn't walk without getting winded, I looked like a slob & my self esteem was in the bottom of a potato chips bag.
I do not think the food that I thought was sooooo good is a fair tradeoff for how well I feel now!
I never want to go back, it is an illusion that we are missing something. Think more clearly!

I've always carried my weight all over. So back in the 80s when it was cool to wear pants tucked into boots, I was left out. And again now, I watch my BFF wearing her skinny jeans tucked in and say, "grrrrr!"
Oh well, 'twasn't meant to be, for me. But you still have 30 to go, here's hoping!

I'm 5'5", started at 253 squeezing into an 18, now I'm 180 and the proud owner of one pair of size 10s that miraculously fit, but I would say size 12.

Okay, I'll start off my saying I love my band. Was banded in October and have lost over 70 lbs so far including the 9 I lost on the preop diet. Life is good...I'm the thinnest I've ever been, in the best shape of my life. I ran a 10 mile race and I have a half marathon coming up next month. I bought a pair of freaking size 10 pants for Pete's sake, which I have never done in my life. I only have 30 lbs left to my goal weight. I love my band and would do it over in a heartbeat.
    Of course there's a but....
I miss eating, the way I used to eat. I miss going to the Outback and eating bread, and salad, and the big onion and steak and fries. And it's not that I'm starving...I have enough restriction that I feel full off of a pretty small amount of food.< /p>
I miss just "grabbing a quick bite" which is not even an option anymore. I just want to eat something without chewing it to death. And I know some people say they enjoy food even more now because they take the time to savor each bite, but I like it far less. To me, food chewed to the consistency of appleasuce tastes almost putrid in my mouth at times...hell I don't even like appleasauce! Add that to the fact that it's usually cold by the time I get done. Food is not enjoyable to me, which is depressing because it used to be so enjoyable. The exception, of course, is food like ice cream, chocolate and chips that are so easy to eat and as enjoyable as ever, but of course I try not to eat those too much.
I realize it's all in my head, and my therapist and I are working on it ...just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way. Like I said,I'm happy to be banded, happy with my success so far, and I would take being at goal weight, healthy (and hopefully wearing a size 8) over a huge meal at the Outback, but still....

Usually only people with heart problems have to take an antibiotic before the dentist to keep any infection that may be in their mouth from getting into their blood stream and traveling to their heart. If this is the reason you're supposed to take it, I would go home and get it

Just did it 3 days a week. There were times I thought I for sure would have to repeat weeks, but I never did. Don't be afraid to repeat if you need to though, whatever you need to do to finish it. You will feel so accomplished!

I thought it was going to be easy to get through the first couple of weeks on liquid, boy was I wrong. I was okay the first week. 2nd week proved to be a challenge. I was given permission to progress to mushies/soft foods...I am thought I would be excited, but am having issues with gas, so I don't have much of an appetite. It really is a process and you have to be patient...my nutritionist told me that as I progress with food it is like introducing food to a baby! My mind tells me I can do one thing, my body is saying something else.
Anyway, good luck. I am entering my 3rd week post op and ot sure how I feel about food right now, mushies or otherwise!

I put off getting my first fill for a long time because I was doing well and didn't think I needed it. Well I finally broke down and got it. In the 2.5 weeks it took me to get in after I made the appt I fell off the wagon and gained a few pounds. I finally got it last Thursday, and I already know one will not be enough. How long do you guys wait bewteen fills??

I had a date exactly 2 weeks post op. Obviously dinner was out of the question so we went out for drinks. Didn't want to look weird drinking Water, so I had a couple margaritas. They were wonderful, I didn't die, stayed under my calories for the day, still lost weight. I wouldn't sweat it!!
