Lissa got a reaction from eso in Why Am I Feeling Light Headed?
Bcole, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, if you ARE dehydrated and you're dehydrated enough to feel light-headed, it's already time to call the doctor. You will not be able to re-hydrate your body on your own. In fact, if you go today, it may be a simple matter of an IV. If you wait, you may end up hospitalized for days, or you could have other health problems that are triggered by the dehydration.
Please call your doctor this morning and let him or her evaluate you.... and let us know what s/he says. Please?

Lissa got a reaction from BeccaK in Have Any Of You Eaten Solid Food Before You Were Supposed To?
Yes, eating solids too early can be bad news. IMO, it's not worth pushing forward with the diet because the sleeve needs time to heal. If you're feeling "hungry", you definitely need to talk to your doctor about getting an acid reducer for you. Part of that hungry feeling is head hunger as well. For most of us, that goes away once all of the ghrelin hormone is out of our systems, which can take up to 30 days.
Is having solid foods a few days early worth the possible risk that you'll cause a leak and end up in the hospital or on a liquid diet for months instead of a few more days? I don't think so.
Instead of sitting there obsessing about what you can't eat, drink some Water, go for a walk, call a friend, or have a nice cup of warm broth. Right now it seems you'll never get to eat solid food again, but it will be a minor blip on the radar in a few weeks.
    Good luck!

My younger son has always done this kind of conversation shift. We'd be having a family discussion at dinner about something and my youngest would suddenly ask a totally unrelated off the wall question. My oldest son would always raise his arms above his head and do the twilight zone music and say "Bubba has jumped the shark!"

Lissa got a reaction from UalreadyKnow in I'm Bulimic And Getting Vsg
    Love the name Happy!
I'm not bulimic, but I am seeing a therapist for food and other issues. Having been dirt poor as a child, I've always struggled with the need to have LOTS of food in the house, even if it goes bad before it gets eaten. I also had a sibling who ate all of the "treats" that we did get as kids as soon as they came home, so I learned that treat foods must be eaten immediately if I wanted any of them.
My main issue was sweets and the sleeve has made them disgusting to me, except chocolate. I had to get rid of the halloween candy I bought this year because it kept tempting me and I ate about six of them the day after I bought them. Then I promptly had potty issues (TMI, sorry).
I'm pretty happy that I'm lactose intolerant now, because that means I won't eat ice cream. The results aren't worth it for me.
Between hitting this board constantly and talking to my therapist, I'm moving away from the food issues to something that I consider a healthier attitude. If I'm angry, I go walk on the treadmill, or take a walk outside. At one time anger would have meant I'd go buy a package of cannolli and eat it before I got home, or a quart of Ben & Jerry's that I didn't share with anyone but me, myself and I. Is it any wonder I was big enough for 3 people before?
I am consciously trying to create a crossove addiction to exercise. I like the endorphins I get from walking, biking, or using the elliptical! And, exercise is not bad for you if done properly.
I wish all of us luck in dealing with our head issues.

Lissa got a reaction from Phoenix924 in 5 Hour Energy
I'm afraid of the 5 hour energy drinks myself. The ones I have seen as loaded with caffeine, which acts as a diuretic. Since most of us struggle early post-op to get our liquids, I wouldn't take the drink. Instead, concentrate on getting your Water and Protein in, and make sure you are taking adequate Vitamins to help meet your nutritional needs. I specifically recommend B-12. I take a sublingual B-12 every day and I can feel the difference in my energy level when I miss it for even a day.
Look at your Vitamin regime and see if there is something you are missing. I take a Multivitamin, B-12, Biotin, and Calcium every morning, plus more Calcium and an acid reducer at night. I have other meds I take by prescription as well.
You might also benefit by talking to a nutritionist or dietician about adding more carbs to your diet. Carbs are necessary to give you the energy to work out.
I have to add that I've had very little problem with low energy or exhaustion. I woke up from surgery feeling like a new person and that hasn't changed for me yet. However, I have seen lots of people who are tired, just from the healing process itself. It takes about 6 months for the stomach to completely heal.
Good luck! I hope you find the solution quickly.

Dana, I was on the recumbent bike one day, riding like zombies were chasing me, when I suddenly had a small panic attack that I might actually starve to death someday because I wouldn't be able to eat with my sleeve. Mind you, I was 7 months out at the time and eating plenty of food daily, so I have NO clue where that stray thought came from. I beat that thought down, finished my workout and decided to live the rest of my life HAPPY about this surgery. I wouldn't be alive today without my sleeve.

Lissa got a reaction from geisha714 in Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
I went into surgery expecting to die, and accepting the gamble because of all my health complications. I woke up and went "What?" because I truly didn't expect to wake up. When they wheeled me into my room, I got up off the recovery bed, walked around the hospital bed, and sat in the chair. I never did get in that hospital bed. My only pain was in my thighs from trying to use my leg muscled instead of my tummy muscles, but that went away quickly. I took pain meds three times after surgery, then refused any more pain meds.
I drove myself home the day after surgery, about a 40 minute drive. I started walking up and down my hallway the next day and I've been high energy ever since. In 10 months I've lost 110 pounds, plus I feel amazing!!!
This is the third best gamble I've ever taken (having my boys were #1 and #2).

I know I'm not around as much lately, but I just popped in and someone had liked an old post of mine. While scrolling through the thread, I saw names I remember from way back and some newer names. What struck me as AWESOME, though, was the tickers at the bottom of everyone's post. Each and every ticker shows some tremendous weight loss for every person on the thread. FYI, the post was "Anyone have a Relatively Easy Recovery". I'm stunned at the high numbers everyone is showing (including me! YAY! ) IF anyone ever doubts that the Sleeve works, just scroll through a few of the older threads and look at those tickers. It's a ticker tape parade!!!
