I don't do any lifting on my job and my doctor still kept me out of work for five weeks for a full recovery, though I had zero complications of any kind. It's local norms somewhat, but I do think when possible, people should really take as much time as they need to be REALLY ready to get back to work. Good luck!!

I think I got lucky then. My protein intake sucked because I couldn't tolerate supplements and I couldn't eat enough food to get my numbers up to where they should be. If I'd known my protein intake could have caused me to lose my hair, I might have started grazing throughout the day or something. lol

yeah on my liquid diet i was going crazy at first. Didnt really realize just how much i though of food! I have the cleanest house now. Everytime i wanted to eat i would clean something or organize and i painted my fingers and toes, never had smoother legs, deep conditioned my hair, wrote my very best friend a letter, something i hadnt done in years. I took down my christmas decorations. Now im 2 days post op and doing pretty good. Still thinking about bread though

The sabotage comes from making excuses to not put some effort into doing what we need to do. We have all seen the posts from those who say they can't drink the Protein shakes but admit they haven't tried any variety. If one doesn't work, you shouldn't throw your hands in the air and say, "Protein Shakes don't work for me" like we see posted on a daily basis. I think we have all made a commitment to change in going through with this. I just hate to see someone sell themselves short by not putting in the smallest effort to find what works for them. That, to me, is sabotage.

Thank you everybody! Well, I am finally home. I got home last night. I am having a problems getting down the fluids along with the meds. Just too much for my stomach to handle. I guess I had a bad time of it in the recovery room but I am up and walking around and taking a bunch of cat naps. I can't shower until tomorrow so I feel really greasy. I am living on the gas tablets and I finally broke down and took some milk of magnesia to try and get things moving again. I had developed a cough about a week before surgery and that has caused me some pain in my recovery. Nothing like coughing when your stomach is already sore. On the plus side, I am down 7lbs in about 2 days. I just can't wait to recover so I can be more excited about it.

I ask for a to go box when I am full and that lets them know I liked it well enough to want again later.
Also, you might try getting a 16 year old boy to join you for dinner. My son loves that I do not finish anything. He has been batting clean up for me.

It's not all pretty - it's not all easy to go from morbidly obese to...well..not morbidly obese. I know when I was pre-op I was always looking for the terrible side effects so I had in my mind the potential of what difficult steps I had ahead for me. Now that I'm 7 months out and down 109 pounds, I know the reality of what I had to adjust to.
    1. Cute shirt in department store ad catches my eye. It's plus sized, it was drape over me, it's not an option.
    2. Lane Bryant emails are now just more spam.
    3. Can't say "LMAO" anymore cause it's already gone...
    4. Automatic toilets scare the crap out of you! There's no longer that one minute delay after my big ol fat butt gets off the toilet. The immediate "Whooosh!" is so unexpected!
    5. Bummed out MIL when she offered to give me the 16's she had gotten too thin for an was now in her goal weight of a 14 and had to tell her I was now at a 12 (okay, so maybe I did kinda enjoy that moment...PS- now a size 10)
    = )
Post ops, feel free to add to my list.....

I must have went to all my favorite restaurants the month before surgery. Then as soon as the pre-op diet started, I was in it all the way. I decided to do and do it right. After surgery I no longer wanted the bad stuff, all I wanted was to lose weight and eat right. It's so much easier now. You will be better able to make the right choices after surgery because you are not starving. It is a daily effort to eat the right stuff but you can do it.

We eat out a lot, last Friday we split an entree and took half home and split the half again for a total of 4 meals off ONE entree. We are saving a bundle on restaurant bills!

This is a topic I havent really thought about and should. I have not been rewarding myself. I have missed my halloween goal by a few pounds and now I am going to miss my Xmas one by a few pounds too so there has not been a real reward system. I am happy with my results but I didnt think to reward myself for how well I am doing. I set these arbitrary goals for myself, not knowing where to start.. they have been too high each time. I am going to set rewards right now for different milestones I want to reach and follow through with it! Thanks for the idea!
I think things like new makeup, a pedicure, jewelry, a massage, a new purse, etc would be good rewards. I have to buy new clothes every few weeks anyway and I get them at thift stores. I plan to buy a whole new wardrobe when I reach goal and level off anyway. I do see the need to get smaller rewards along the way though.

I want to travel..I don't even care where I go. I want to walk and hike and tolerate heat. Take my camera and go on long shoots without being short winded and a hot mess. So my husband and I are hoping to plan something out west for the summer.
I know they aren't the best thing for you but in moderation I like to get a tan before summer but I exceeded the weight limit for the tanning bed..would be nice to fit in one again.
My biggest reward will be when I can play around with the kids and grandkids...like ball in the yard, jump on a trampoline, go sledding,,etc.

I'm 7 months out. I started at 254 (I'm 5'6") and was 222 the day before my surgery, May 16. I am now 144 (I only update my ticker once per week so it's at 145.4, which is what I weighed last Friday). I'm 9 lbs. away from my goal, which will put me at a BMI of 21.8. I have small bones, so I don't look as skinny as you might think.
I still like sweets and greasy foods, but not very much of them. They don't set as well as they used to. I think it's because I am out of the habit of eating them. When I was younger and thin, I couldn't eat a lot of greasy food or sweet food because it bothered me.
Not everyone who gets RNY gets dumping syndrome when eating sweets, so it may not offer the deterrent you hope for.
I am very happy with my choice. The weight loss, appetite suppression, and ability to eat a small amount of any food I choose, has been everything I hoped for.
Best wishes on a speedy recovery. I'm keeping you a seat warm on the losers' bench!
