  1. I am trying to go with it. I damn near lost it putting my kids on the bus today. My neighbors would have thought I was nuts. I just can't stop crying! Then when I start it just takes over. I need to run into work... but I work with family... and they will be all over me if they think I am sad... because they love me so much... and here come the waterworks again! I am so happy to hear your surgery went well. It really helps to hear the good stories... reminds me of what I am striving for
  2. Thank you. Your encouragement means so much to me. Congratulations on your success I am so very hopeful that I will be just like you! Now if only I could stop crying!
  3. I have surgery tomorrow. And I am so scared. I cried myself to sleep last night and here I am crying in my coffee this morning. I have a million things running through my head... how could I have let myself get to this point that I need surgery... what the hell am I doing... what if I end up regreting this decision... what if I have some sort of major complication and leave my family behind? I feel trapped. I picture this amazing life of being a healthy weight... then I look at the amazing life I have right now. I want to suck it up and go in fearless but fear has taken over. Before I went to bed last night I read a story posted on this site about a woman who had major complications a month out from surgery. That just did me in. Worst thing I could have done to myself was read that 2 days before surgery and right before bed. I sobbed myself to sleep. Yes I know it is good to know about potential complications but I am so emotionaly drained right now that that little bit of information just pulled me under. So here I sit feeling awfully alone. I am reminding myself that I am young (35) and healthy... on no medications just overweight. And that my surgeon is very experienced. I am going to a good hospital. I need a crystal ball! I need to know I am going to be ok. Have I really tried hard eough to lose weight in the past? I am really leaning on all of you. Only my husband knows that I am going in for surgery. My parents have no idea... and I am super close to them. None of my friends know. My kids don't know because they are only 5 and 8 and this is just too much for them. I promised my little girl that I would go dress shopping with her in the Spring and that mommy would actually by a dress to wear too. Mommy never buys dresses for herself. I want that so bad... but mostly I want to know I will be here for her when she grows up. My kids are so precious to me. I am terrified of them hating their mommy forever if I leave them behind. Lord please give me strength.
  4. Going in for surgery on Thursday this week. To say I am nervous would be a huge understatement at this point. My biggest worry? This procedure not working for me. I will follow the diet to a T. I will exercise. I will eat protein first and be careful with carbs. But what if after all that this doesn't work? Is that possible? My hopes and dreams are big. I am so excited and so afraid this dream will be crushed. I am sure that comes from years and years of failing at weight loss. At this point I am not backing out! I guess I am looking to be reassured that some of you out there thought this same thing before your surgery and you have proven yourself wrong.
  5. Hi there! You seem to have a lot of knowledge so I hope you don't mind if I ask... I too have been wondering about hair loss. And lose it or not I am having surgery this week on Thursday! So my question is of the 85-90% who lose their hair how much hair are we talking? Are we talking baldness? Is that only extreme cases? Is it more like 50%? I have super thick hair and I could stand to lose a little but I just want to prepare myself as much as possible. Thanks
  6. Wow! You just had your surgery... how are you feeling?
  7. I am also having mine done at St Vincent... with Dr. Cacucci. Sounds like you are doing well Is there anything specfic I should know or be prepared for? Of course I have done the nutrition class and all the pre op testing at this point. But coming from one who just had it done is there anything I should know? I am excited and nervous. I really need to get my nerves under control!
  8. I was wondering if you had surgery in Indianapolis and if so who was your surgeon? I am having surgery on 8/18... nervous and excited
  9. I totally understand how you feel! I go in Thursday next week. I am so excited... but also so scared that I could puke My emotions are all over the place. I too am scared something will happen and I won't wake up. Or after the surgery I am scared of blood clots. I have a wonderful husband and 2 amazing kids and the thought of leaving them forever is just breaking my heart. I have to do this procedure though. I know there are risks but they are quite small. And this will improve the rest of my life! I need this for myself and my family. I don't think you will be hungry those first few weeks but you may be overwhelmed by trying to get everything in each day. At least that is what I was told in my nutrition class. Good luck to you! I am looking forward to being on this forum in a little over a week and seeing how you are doing!
  10. I am so excited and happy for you! I too have a little one... she is 5 but that doesn't stop her from wanting to be held I plan to get down at her level for hugs. She doesn't know that mommy is having an operation on her belly because I am afraid it will scare her. My surgery is also next week! I go in on the 18th. I too am excited and nervous. Today I am super happy and so excited! By tonight I may be super nervous again. It comes and goes! I had my nutrition class yesterday and was shocked when I was shown a 2 ounce container and then told that after surgery I probably would not be able to finish 2 ounces of anything without feeling totally full. It really just blows my mind! Funny that my husband and I plan a dinner at Outback this weekend... sort of our last hurrah as well! Sounds like we have a lot in common! I hope everything goes well for you next week! Good luck
  11. Yesterday I completed my last requirement before surgery... all day nutrition class. My surgery is scheduled for next Thursday 8/18. I was a ball of nerves yesterday. Learning about nutrition and portion sizes... learning about giving myself Lovenox injections after surgery... getting the list of supplements I will be taking for the rest of my life. It was a long day and I was overwhelmed with a pounding headache when I got home. Today is totally different! A strange calm has taken over. I am so happy! No more hurdles to jump over. I am there I have had the morning to myself (kiddos at school) to really think and remember all my reasons for doing this. I can't wait to start this journey. I know it won't be easy but I am ready for the challenge! I hope this happy calm stays with me through next week!
  12. I feel EXACTLY the way you do! I am so sick of weight loss and diets being the topic of every conversation... with family/friends/coworkers. It never ends. It seems it consumes my life. So much to the point that I am doing this surgery to finally be past the weight issue and just move forward. I am not ashamed of the fact that I am having this surgery to lose weight. That is not the reason I am not sharing. I just don't want it to be the only thing people want to talk to me about. I just want my family and friends to be happy for me and this accomplishment when I have achieved it and not be talking to me about the sleeve. I too just want to be seen as a person... not a fat person or a person who had the sleeve. I hate that I can't share this with my family... but I just can't. And I am afraid that if I share with any friends it could make it back to my family and I know that would just hurt their feelings (we live in a small town). This is such a sensitive subject. I go in next week for surgery. I am so excited to start my new life! You are so right that this is a juicy piece of gossip... because it really is. I do not want to see a person "checking me out" just out of curiousity because they heard I had WLS... regardless of how I lose the weight I want people seeing me for me. So ready for this journey to begin Good luck to you!
  13. Since I haven't had my procedure done yet I can only say what I plan to tell people. Since I am keeping this very private I plan to leave out the part that I had surgery and share all the other diet details. Think of all the crazy diets out there... what could be so bad about just eating really small portions?!? At least that is what I am thinking! I have no idea how fast the weight will come off and if it is a big drop really quickly I have a feeling I have a lot of friends/family who will quickly be jumping on the broth diet with me I tend to have a lot of business dinners and even a business trip coming up at 8 weeks after surgery. Most of the people I will see on that trip will likely notice that I have lost weight. And I will be eating dinner with them a few nights that I am gone so they will witness my barely eating. What can you do? I am going to just roll with it! Thank goodness my husband will be with me on the business trip. He will back up any story I put out there!
  14. So many great replies. It really is such a personal decision. I just don't want anyone "monitoring" my progress. I don't want to answer to anyone if I reach a plateau and they think my procedure is not working. I guess in the end I will keep all this to myself... this is for me!
  15. Good Luck tomorrow... you are only a week before me! Keep us posted on how you are doing!
  16. I am a very private person and I have decided to share this journey with only my husband (and those of you reading this!). I am very close to my family and I have wonderful friends but I just don't want to let anyone in on my decision to have this procedure. I feel like a failure for all the times I have started a diet and had high hopes only to lose 10lbs and gain back 20. It has happened more times that I can count. Now here I am getting ready for this (8/18 is the big day) and I am just excited and nervous and sometimes in tears thinking "what am I doing?!"! I know this is the right decision for me. I still plan to let no one know about this procedure after it is done. Just me and my hubby :-) And he is so wonderful and supportive. How many of you out there have kept your surgery a secret? After your procedure did you end up telling people? Thank goodness for this site... I am going to need all of you to lean on! I go in a week from tomorrow. My new chapter can't begin soon enough!
  17. Thanks for all the input! I don't know that it is not possible to be prepared for what my life will be like in 2 months but I am excited to find out. This journey can't start fast enough for me!
  18. Thanks for all the replies! It helps to know that other people are doing the same thing I am! A week from tomorrow is my day... so excited!
  19. I am wondering if it is normal that I have no special pre op diet to follow? My surgery is next week 8/18 and my nutrition class is this Thursday the 11th. When I went to the hospital for all my pre op testing I asked about being on a special diet and they told me no... that I just needed to do clear liquids the day before surgery. I see so many posts on here about the pre op diet that I am confused as to why I am not required to do it too? Anyone else out there know the reason? Should I be concerned?
  20. I am having my sleeve done on 8/18. I am so excited and so nervous at the same time! I am going on a business trip with a large group of people right at about 2 months after my surgery. What can I expect life to be like at the point? What kind of diet will I be on? Will I be able to handle solids at that point? None of the people going on the trip with the exception of my husband know that I am having any sort of procedure done. Will it be obvious that something is "up" with me? I am also wondering what kind of weight loss to expect at about 8 weeks out. I just can't fathom losing a significant amount of weight that quickly but I am wondering if I need to buy some new pants for the trip before the season changes. So many questions! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for your post. I am heading in for my surgery on 8/18. I am a ball of nerves and excitement. So happy one moment and in tears the next! I am super nervous about the drain. Scared of pain. So scared I will be sick from the pain meds and that I will somehow injure myself if I vomit. So many questions! I hope your next weeks/months go smoothly for you
