  1. There is no need to continue shakes after you start eating regular food and that is only liquid calories that you could be eating. I get 90 grams of protein in every single day with food. I dont know of any doctor that wants you to rely on protein shakes for the rest of your life. What is the point of getting the band if you have to drink protein shakes forever you might as well do slim fast and forget the surgery.
  2. Because if you continue to eat sugar you will not lose weight. Sugar turns to fat period. You should not be drinking full sugary drinks after being banded. They have to go. I think losing weight is more important then drinking chocolate milk before bed. Drink a chocolate protein shake.
  3. But whatever you are buying you can get three, four or five meals out of. I spend less money now since the band then when I was eating junk. You have to look at the whole picture. If you are only cooking for yourself and you buy a whole chicken that in its self can be less then a dollar a meal with about 7 meals. I go to flea markets and get fresh produce which is cheap and good. I buy snacks that are cheap. You can certainly eat healthy foods for reasonable money. You are eating less so it goes a lot further.
  4. Then if its Just A Job why don't you just give your notice and let someone who really wants to work have a chance to have a job. I don't understand your mentality that this surgery is more important then having employment. It doesnt matter what HR told you if you are not entitled to FMLA they do not have to hold your job. If you are so quick to rush to surgery and not think about your coworkers or that employment in this economy is important then it would be better to just give notice, have your surgery and then find other employment. Just my opinion and Im not saying it rudely for those who feel the need to jump on me like you know me. Or why didnt you have your surgery before obtaining employment. Never burn your bridges when it comes to working.
  5. I usually order fish of any kind but I dont do well with any kind of meat.
  6. If it is bright read blood go to the ER it may have nothing to do with you throwing up the food but everything to do with something else
  7. My saying is things happen for a reason. You will be fine and you have done a world of good to yourself by learning to eat healthy. I would make sure you only see the surgeon now and not the nurse practitioner.
  8. Well the real question here is how much do you need your job because even though she said you wont lose your job over it they are not reirquired to hold your position if you have not been there a year and qualify for FMLA. She could tell you that and then hire someone else. Do you need your job? If so I would wait.
  9. My friend that had her band done the same time as me had all the fluid taken out, was on full liquids for about 4 months and it did reverse the problem. The esophagus dilation just needs time of no hard foods going down it to recover in most cases. As far as the stomach prolapsing that possibly could be corrected also with resting the pouch and not cosuming foods. It's worth a try if you can do it on full liquids for a while to rest your esophagus and stomach. My friend is okay now but she did lose major weight on full liquids for 4 months lol
  10. I do not think you will find a doctor that will say leave the fluid in because you can not get enough calories in to nourish your baby. Its not healthy to have fluid in your band while pregnant. Dont worry about gaining weight worry about your babies health.
  11. I always take my pills whole. I have never crushed them or taken liquids ever and I have no issues.
  12. Yes it is normal to feel hungry. You will be hungry until you reach the green zone. Right now its about controling what you eat.
  13. I am mostly a vegan with my band. I buy the morning star meats, make my own black bean casserole and black bean burgers. I also crave meat which was a sign I was very B-12 deficient. However I can not tolerate meat and I am okay with that. It just doesnt work for me. I get at least 90 grams of protein a day being a vegan. If you crave meat then eat it but it doesnt sit well with me.
  14. Starting at 287 down to 166 and feeling very good!
  15. Looking great! Just think how you will feel in 52 more pounds.
  16. First of all when you are on a high protein diet only a few of those pounds that you are losing are actually water. The rest is fat. People assume from past dieting that the first 20lbs is water weight which is plain malarky. If you are consuming a lot of protein it is burning your fat and the water is flushing it out of your system so tell them the next time they say that, that I said its plain bull S**t
  17. Working in the hospital I see wounds all the time and I think it will be just fine. These things have to heal from the inside out. Glad you didnt get an infection. I hope one day to do mine if I cant then oh well I will continue to wear my spanks when I go out lol. Looking good.
  18. Yes we all have/are hungry at some point during band life. Whether it be during bandster hell or when needing a fill we all get hungry. I'm not selling nothing here but telling you what works for me during these crisis. Yes I love to feel hunger pains as I have never felt them my whole adult life, however sometimes being severely hungry makes you eat fast and those of us that have been banded for a long time knows what happens when we eat fast. Stuck, pain, puke, slime but not necessarily in that order. When hoodia first came out, I guess it really went crazy about a year after I was banded, I tried it. I buy the hoodia super thin from GNC and no other. They said it would take about a week to work but I stuck it out and what a difference it made when I was struggling with hunger. It tricks your brain in to thinking you are full (exactly what the band is supposed to do when you are in the green) and helps with hunger. Again I am not selling anything just telling you what has worked for me when I was in severe crisis. Sometimes we all need something to help even with the band. Most of you don't want to be hungry and this may or may not help you but it has helped me many times especially when I could was able to get a fill for a while. I have a very sensitive stomach and it really hates a fill. There are no side affects either so that was a plus to go with my other supplements as I do take chromium, biotin, and b-6 for my hair. Its just a suggestion for those of you who are struggling with hunger.
  19. The day I had surgery the nurse that took care of me even said you are not that big why didnt you just do it yourself. Ummmmm 287lbs of anything is big. I was big, still feel big even though I am 166 but I am less big then I was then lol. Tell them it is your decision and no one else's. They are probably just mad because they didn't think of it first lol
  20. People do get the band over the bypass but it depends on what kind of medical issues you are having.
  21. You can do it. I think your hunger issue is because you stopped getting enough fills to curb your hunger. You are making an effort. We all have to do what is right for us. I did ideal protein for a couple months when I was stuck and I lost 50lbs thus needing my gallbladder removed for rapid weight loss however sometimes we all need a jump start and if weight watchers helps you then so be it. Do it.
  22. 39 here in Jacksonville and I hate it. Ready to move back to Fort Lauderdale if this keeps up
  23. I would agree that most lap band surgeons and myself want you to consume high protein. Protein is what makes you burn fat. I only log my food in to spark people because I dont always eat enough for sure and some days I go over on calories depending. But all in all I have always stuck to a high protein diet and vegetables and fruit as my carbs. If I eat any other carbs I gain weight. I try to stick to the higher protein of 90 to 100 grams a day. Works/worked for me since the beginning.
