Had my first post op appointment today, down 29 pounds from initial consult, 18 from the day of surgery which was less than two weeks ago. WOOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!! Also he moved me on to being able to eat other foods. I am so tired of soup. Lunch was great today, I actually got to chew something and have texture again.

I was drinking 6 20oz bottles of diet coke a day. I know. When I went to the siminiar about the surgery and it was mentioned I decided to give it up then to see if I could do it. The first week was hard but I suddenly lost all my night time munchies and sweet cravings. Glad I did it. I feel so much better not drinking it. They totally suck us in with it being called Diet but the side effects are very detremental.

It has been so long since I have seen a waist band size starting with a 4 that I will be thrilled to buy the first pair of 48's.

just a quick question, what was the top pant size you guys started at? Just out of curiosity how quickly did you drop as well. I started with "extra waste band" 56's. But only 1.5 week post op and can do plain 54 with no problems. in fact the others are sort of falling off. Jonathan

Well I just did this a week ago so it is still pretty vivid in my memory. I remember waking up to people yelling my name and telling me to wake up. I was very out of it and they had put my C-PAP machine on me while I was in recovery. As soon as I was awake I remember I knew my stomach area hurt and I could feel there was pain there, but I certainly didn't understand how much. Once I was in my room is when I had the SERIOUS pain, but one morphine shot and I was good from there with nothing but the nauesua stuff. JBT

congrats. I have to say my experience was a bit different. I don't get to go to xray until tomorrow. i can only have hard candy to suck on. And I have to stay overnight.

I finally made it. I was banded this morning. Love the hospital has wireless internet access. It hurts a lot but I did it. That was a huge hurdle. First day of the rest of my life!!! Jonathan (JBT)

Still at the hospital but thought I would share that I did make it through it. The whole needle thing had me so aprehensive. But the pain post op far outweighs the pre op IV. I just had no clue. At least I didn't have to be awake for the op stuff. That IV junk is the pitts. Necessary evil I suppose. Jonathan (JBT)

I was thinking of calling it Bertha but the more I think about it I feel like I should wait until we get to know each other before I give it a name. I love lap dance. That is still cracking me up. JBT

I was reading somewhere of a person who refered to her band as "Ethel". I thought it was a great idea and have been trying to come up with a name for it before I go in for the surgery. Anyone else named yours or have some good suggestions? JBT

I had my pre-op hospital appointment on Friday 2/18. Suregery date is scheduled for 2/27. I have to say that while it wasn't anything abnormal it certainly took a lot longer than I expected. That and it took them three times to find a vein to get blood out of. They ended up in my hand, not fun! Hoping when it gets surgery time the IV will not be that painful but I think I may have my rose colored glasses on. JBT

Go for pre-op tomorrow at the hospital. Not sure exactly what to expect there, hopefully nothing too horrible. I have "needlephobia" so hope they are good conversationalist to keep my mind off it. Anyone had any maitneance medicines you had to change? Talked to my regular Dr. and she thinks we should be ok at first but monitor it as the weight goes down. Just wondering. JBT

For anyone out there still looking for a Dr. in KC area, Dr. Malley is who I am using. I have to admit I didn't look around a lot at the other local doctors. I went to tell my primary care doctor about what I had planned. One of her first questions and concern was who was doing it. She said Dr. Malley was probably the best in the area so she was pleased. Anyway, not trying to put down any of the others as I don't have a clue. Just relaying the recommendation from primary Dr. JBT

I don't even want to go down the "paper panties" trail. I could do with out that mental picture all together!!!! or thought of dealing with them for that matter. On another thread that was a specific topic with the ladies not wanting the male doc there.... to me, whatever, lets just do this and move on the weight loss portion JBT

So probably a stupid question. Were you responsible for shaving the surgery area or did the hospital as part of the surgery? JBT

PAX10 I am scheduled for surgery on 2/27. I have the pre-ops stuff starting next week. However I had to do self pay since my company has an exclusion for all barriatric surgery. Figures. So for me the process was pretty fast. I know the ladies in the office over there are pretty kick butt on the insurance stuff. If you check out his site in their forums there is a lot more detail. Just found this thread being new here. I was on the forum for my Dr. and I think I was the only guy there. Being banded on 2/27. Pax - I am in KC too and goind to Dr. Malley. JBT

Kat, What an awesome story there. That is so the thing I needed to read today. Thanks for posting it. Glad to know there are other people out here that feel the same way. I have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go to get to the "Normal" range BMI from 55 but it will happen eventually. JBT

my surgery is scheduled for 2/27. We have an exclusion in the insurance so had to go self pay route. No worries though. At least we were able to find a way to come up with some $ to get it going. A bit nervous as I have a major needle phobia. Guess I should break the news to my regular doctor soon so she knows what is going on. Anyone have to change their medcine they were taking for blood pressure and cholestrol due to the surgery? I am assuming that the big honking horse pills I take now are not going to work post op. I just made the decision to get the band; I have a date at the end of Feb 07. I have of course told my wife as she will be there. Other than that only my best friend who has battled weight with me for years. Other than that, not planning on telling anyone until afterwards and they notice the loss. Especially not telling my parents until after the surgery. I have no need of the extra stress they will cause with the unsolicted oppinions.
