Dr. Malley and other Dr. relationship

For anyone out there still looking for a Dr. in KC area, Dr. Malley is who I am using. I have to admit I didn't look around a lot at the other local doctors.

I went to tell my primary care doctor about what I had planned. One of her first questions and concern was who was doing it. She said Dr. Malley was probably the best in the area so she was pleased.

Anyway, not trying to put down any of the others as I don't have a clue. Just relaying the recommendation from primary Dr.

Unfortunately, Dr. Malley isnt in my insurance network, so I've chosen to go with Dr. Hoehn at the Bariatric Center of Kansas City. I havent heard anything negative about him, in fact, just about everything I have read has been positive! I really liked him at the seminar I attended on Feb 5th.

I turned in all my papers, medical records and my PCP letter, but I'm still waiting for a call from their office to set up my nutritional consult and psych eval, so hopefully it will be soon!!

My band sister (we were banded together) goes to him regularly for fills and I think he has a support group tho not sure on that - anyway she really likes him and his staff - good luck to you!

He was my surgeon and I think that he and Billy (his nurse) are amazing. I have not had the best experiences with all of the office staff, but I would still go to him again if I had to do it over.

Thanks Wheetsin....it does make me feel more at ease with my decision when I read posts like yours!! As far as the "other staff" goes....I've heard the same thing before, but so far, I havent really run into a problem with anyone...but then again, I'm not having to much contact with anyone while I wait for appointment dates. Its been almost 2 weeks since I sent in my papers, and I know they got them. I think I'll call them on Monday and ask (in a very polite ass-kissing sorta way) when I can expect my appointments to be scheduled.

I believe the "other staff" is part of who handles the insurance stuff, but I could be wrong. This part was the most frustrating part for me. I handed in my paperwork and didn't hear back, didn't hear back, didn't hear back... the paperwork said to call if we hadn't heard nything in three weeks so I called, and called again, and called again... leaving messages each time, of course - "Just want to know the status", "Your information said to call you so I am calling to see what's going on", "Hadn't heard back so I was just wondering if you needed anything else", etc.

Weeks went by and I never heard back. It got to the point that I left a message telling them that because of their inability to respond to the numerous messages I had left, I wanted to know who I needed to talk to to get things in order for me to pick my medical records back up so that I could locate a different surgeon - one whose office was actually willing to call me back.

Of course, I got a call about 3 hours after leaving that message. I believe that was in week 6 or 7.

Well I have locked horns with this "other staff" one already. You know there is no excuse for treating people like that, if the person doesnt like their job then find another one. But, like MEW I will bend over backwards to get my approval, then hopefully no more dealings with that one. I am in the waiting mode now also. Pretty funny they returned your call so fast Wheetsin!

Malley fan here as well...... but like JBT.. I didn't meet any others.

Tracey ....(or anyone else who knows) who is JBT and at what hospital does he work out of?

Dr. Malley did my surgery on November 2, 2006. I am self - pay and did not have to deal with insurance or much of the staff. The staff that I have come into contact with have been fine. I had my surgery at "The Doctor's Hospital" located on College Blvd. Very nice hospital. The night nurse was a little nasty, but the the day/afternoon nurse was sweet. Dr. Malley is very quite when I see him. I expect that out of a surgeon. I've worked with doctors for 10 years now and that is just they way they are. Good Luck! Let me know if I can help in any way.

Thanks for the clarification Wheetsin....I must have had a "duh" moment, a lapse in common sense or something else to that effect....lol I thought Tracey was giving the initials of another doctor....I wanted to see if they were in my network!! LOL

prbrooksie....Self-pay has crossed my mind a time or two, and depending on the insurance outcome, that might have to be an option, but for now, all I can do is wait for the staff to call me to set up appoinment times for a psych eval and nutritional consult....my insurance requires these reports be sent to them prior to issuing an approval/denial. I emailed them Tuesday, but havent heard from them. I'm just so anxious to get my lap-band that the time seems to be in slow-motion....:think

Has anyone seen the new Sonic commercial? I have decided to name my band Charlie!! LOL

Hi to all of you fellow bandsters,

I am looking for a Dr. in KC area that will do my fills. I was banded in Mexico with Dr Ortiz on 3/16/07. It was a wonderful experience and would recommend him to others To date I have lost 26 lbs and recovering nicely. I also have some questions about post-op diet.

Kurn,

I know a couple of people go to Dr. Malley for post surgery maintenance and issues. He is very open to taking you on for that but I am not sure about rates. I know there are quite a few out of country bandsters that come to his offices' monthly support group meetings too.
