Question About Plateaus After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
I just posted a few minutes ago....I'm one month out and totally frustrated that I haven't lost a pound in a week and a half!!!

Omg!...frustrated! Neverending Stall....
I guess I just need to vent!!! Today I'm officially one month out. A week ago, I hit the dreaded week 3 stall which has now turned into a week 4 stall. I'm so over it!!! I've tried to stay off the scale, but it's hard!!! I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do: 100+ grams of protein/day, a good 60 oz. of water/fluids and I'm hiking up hill 3 miles/day (which I was doing for the 2 months prior to surgery and I started back up at 2 weeks). Please, tell me this stall is gonna end and that it's not possible to stay stuck here. I'm trying to stay positive about the fact that I've lost 25 lbs since surgery and 52 total.....I know, I should be thrilled, right?!?!?!?

Surgical Tape Residue Removal
Try Neutrogena body oil.....that's what I used. It didn't just wipe off though...I had to use my finger nail and kinda work it into the area.

Did You Get Disability Time Off From Work Or Have To Use Vacation Time For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
I took 3 and a half weeks of paid disability and cashed out about 25 hours of PTO about two weeks before going out (I accrue 2 days per month so it won't take very long to build it back up again). All I had to do was fill out the forms and my doctor's office took care of the rest.

Did You Get Disability Time Off From Work Or Have To Use Vacation Time For Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Me-again, If he has been at his job for at least one year and works full time, he should be able to take "Paid Family Leave". Under FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) an employee can take up to 12 weeks per year (that don't have to be consecutive) to care for a newborn or sick immediate family member. Here is the link to the FMLA website: http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/

Water while working out
I'm 3 and a half weeks out and I hike 2-3 miles everyday now....and I'm downing at least 20 oz in that time. I've noticed I don't drink any differently now than I did pre surgery....restriction only comes with full liquids/food.

I'm Bulimic And Getting Vsg
Hi, I'm a recovered bulimic and anorexic and am now two weeks post op. It has been almost 15 years since I dealt with my eating disorders and learned new coping skills. My concern for you is that you will become anorexic after surgery. Eating disorders always start out as a means to lose weight but they are in fact psychological disorders. I used both to avoid dealing with the death of my mom and sister. Surgery will not cure your bulimia.....your eating disorder will just manifest into something else unless you deal with why you do it in the first place. I'm sorry if this doesn't come across as supportive, but the people who helped me the most when I was in the midst of my ED were those that challenged my irrational thinking. Take care of yourself!!!

Someone Chime In / Respond Please
Hi Suche, I'm 42 and had my surgery on 11/9. I have dealt with some nausea when I drink too much, too fast...esp things that are too sweet. Like others have said, my taste buds have changed drastically. I have a vanilla whey protein powder that I've been using for years and now I can hardly stand it. EVERYTHING is too sweet for me. I think we all wonder, at some point, if this is going to work. But I just have to remember that if I follow the guidelines, I'll eventually get where I want to be!!! You're in the right place for support....sorry, no one responded before.

14 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Op, Bored With Protein Shakes, Extremely Fatigued
I'm 11 days post op and I was having a hard time with my protein. My new best friend is SF hot chocolate mixed with one scoop of unflavored protein powder. I mix it all up in my shaker and then heat it up in the microwave. I use a little extra water to cut down on the richness of it.

I'm sleeved. :-)

LOL!! Glad you're doing so great....and it just gets better each day!

Had VSG and Hiatal Hernia Repair on Nov 10th
Welcome!! Sorry you had such a rough time in the hospital. I was lucky to be at a hospital with a bariatric program and all the nurses and CNA's were understanding. I was sleeved on the 9th and I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. I wish I could move to full liquids now...the Isopure is killing me and I can't move to full liquids until after my post-op appt on Friday. Anyway, welcome!!...there is a lot of great info and support here!!

Got sleeved november 8th
I wad sleeved the 9th and had horrible nausea the second day from the dilauded. Once I switched to Tylenol 3, I started feeling better and I got to come home late yesterday afternoon. I'm not experiencing too much pain other that the incision where my drain was. I'm also having a difficult time getting comfortable enough to sleep any longer than 2 hours at a time. I absolutely HATE the Isopure but I'm choking it down and then sipping on warm broth (which is sooo good). I have noticed that the more I walk and move around, the better I feel!! So walk, walk walk!!! Hoping we all recover soon!!!

One week post-op and miserable
I'm hanging with you!!! I'm 3 days post op and just got home last night. Temperature really makes a difference for me as well. I can't drink as much when things are cold and broth seems to be easiest for me. I just now ate a SF Popsicle and didn't seem to have a problem with it. I am worried about dehydration too so I'm trying whatever I can.

10 Day out from surgery and scared
I am 16 days away and I feel the same way sometimes! I am excited but really anxious at the same time. But I've come too far to back out and at this point I just keep telling myself "feel the fear and do it anyway"!!! I would suggest not reading anything about other people's complications or how they felt right after surgery....my feeling is that stuff will only make me worry Hang in there....it won't be much longer and hopefully we'll both be on the other side!!!

What to expect the day of surgery & the days after
I have been using Jay Robb whey protein powders for years (even before I decided on WLS). Several flavors available: vanilla, choc, strawberry, pina colada, tropical dreamsicle and unflavored. I've not tried the pina colada or the unflavored but the others are all very good. What I like about them is the consistency and taste. They mix very well without a blender with either milk or water. They are 0 carb, 0 fat and 25 grams of protein. They are gluten free and made with stevia. It's not cheap stuff though....I pay 35 bucks for a 24 oz bag which is 23 servings but worth every penny to me.

I was APPROVED!!!....my first post :)
Congrats to all!! I was scheduled last week and my date is November 9th!! I have to attend a bariatric education class at the hospital in two weeks and my surgeon still wants me to lose 10 more lbs. by surgery date. No last Thanksgiving dinner (Last Supper) for me....but I'm okay with that!!!

How do you choose a "goal weight"?
I recently had my body fat tested by a professional and I have 190 lbs of lean mass (bone, muscle, water, etc). Using the archaic BMI charts, I would need to LOSE MUSCLE in order to be in the NORMAL range!!! I think a lot of doctors just don't get it.

General anesthesia issues
Thanks guys!!! I feel better about it now!!

General anesthesia issues
Thanx!! I've put it on my list of questions to ask at my pre-op appt.

FLMA or Leave of Absence question?
Hope this helps!! "An FMLA eligible employee is an employee who has been employed by the employer for a least 12 months and worked at least 1,250 hours. The 12 months do not need to be consecutive. You are only an eligible employee if your employer employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles of the worksite"

How do you choose a "goal weight"?
My surgeon asked me what my goal weight was and I told her I refuse to have one!!! I told her that I just wanted to be healthy and to feel comfortable in my body. I have spent too many years of my life allowing the number on the scale to define how I felt about myself. Now it's more about doing the things I want to do...and being around for my kids and my partner!!! But if I had to use numbers then I would definitely use body fat %, not BMI and not weight.

General anesthesia issues
I am scheduled for surgery on Nov 9th and I'm not really worried about the surgery itself. I feel like I have spent years researching this subject and I've made the right decision for me with regard to the sleeve. My only real concern is going under general anesthesia. I have only been under twice in my life (at 16 and 19)....both were oral surgeries. However, both times I threw up while coming out of it and I had to be intubated. Has anyone else had this experience? Even though it was over 20 years ago, I remember it being horrible. Just wondering how common it is. I'll definitely talk to my surgeon about it when I meet with her two weeks prior.
