How horrible. your mother is attempting to damage your fractured self-esteem by being negative and mean in the hopes you'll be angry enough to "show her". and get in the gym, loose weight, etc. You need to establish some ground rule with your mother. First tell her that how your approach your health and weigh loss is your business and if she can't offer support don't comment. I agree with the other comments that you do need a support system and its a shame she can't or won't be that for you. She may have some underlying issues that have surfaced since you decided to get banded and change. Some people are so afraid to make changes in their life they will sabotage other...she could be doing this to you even though she's your mother...you should seek counseling to deal with this issue because its getting in the way of you enjoying the greatest journey you've could have ever undertaken...you are letting her rob you of this moment to transform your life...my motto is "Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, Live the Life You've Always Imagined" henrydavidthoreau. Is this glue some form of stich or do you get stitches...im worried about scarring and kheloids which are common in people of color.

Hi Ann, That was my fear as well. I have always looked one way but I realize that it would be exciting to see me differently. We are the same on the inside, we are changing our lives with this surgery. This is a good time for you. You will never not see the rolls but just think of how you will look when they really are gone! I can't wait! I'm just starting the process but am exciting at finally letting the "show girl inside me out". You better get ready to do the same. all the best.

Hi Newtaby2011, I'm in Chicago and I decided "Today" that I'm getting banded. I'm new to the site but am inspired and excited about all the info and stories I've found. I too have been met with family and friends who feel I don't need this, etc. But in reality, the band is a tool I will use to conquer the weight demon that has followed me my whole life. I'm moving ahead from a spiritual lens...my weight has be a cruch and a place of safety. I have never been average sized and don't know anything but size 22-32. I will be a support to you and I will need you to be one for me. Together, we will achieve the life God has for us. Don't allow other people's fears to keep you bound-i'm not. Sure, people are nervous but that's because it takes courage to make changes. I'm more than a pretty face, and have always accomplished everything I set out to do but loose weight! Guess what, I prayed to God and asked him if its covered, I'm doing it. Learned today-"IT'S COVERED 100%" Don't worry, I'm excited for you and the transformation that we are about to experience. I can't wait to see the new me, my surgery will be in January. What a way to start the new year? I turn 40, am lauching a business, and will loose weight. Focus on the end results and they will change their minds as they watch you change.
