Pre-Op Diet Blues
I hate to remind some of the pre-surgery posters but are you aware that you will be on a liquid diet post - op too ? Liquid diets post - op can last from 1 week to 4 weeks depending on what your surgeons guidelines are so i would check it out if u dont know .. good luck for the up and coming surgery tho

Not Enough Calories
i was on 600 calories a day for 10 weeks pre-op and i never went anywhere near starvation mode .. if u arent hungry on 800 or so calories then thats fine too.. everyone is different some count calories as that is how we monitor our food, some just eat smaller portions, some just weight everything .. the most important part of this is 'You just do what works for you ' !.

Protein
I have read this too,too much protein can affect the liver and insulin levels .. i think u will find better information on protein absorbtion and contra indications for too much protein on the sites that are about body building etc, as quite often they are obsessed with nutrition and suppliments. I also read that 20grms of protein is roughly what your body can absorb at any given time so it does need to be a steady stream and dont try and eat all your protein at once ..

Hi Everyone
Everyone heals at differing rates so it may well be that u are a little slow in healing ( in your mind ) a lot of people take weeks before they begin to feel 'normal' again, so dont rush it, take yopur pain meds, walk as much as possible and drink your fluids, healing is an important part of this process so dont be in a hurry just do what u can and follow your docs guidelines this time will soon pass

Lbl, Tt And Bl Scheduled For 06/14
Well i was a little tight before i had surgery, so band doc suggested 1mls unfill b4 surgery which worked perfectly. was able to eat almost anything which i thoroughly enjoyed, after so much surgery i felt i needed to treat myself .. the compression garments i have are supplied by the hospital but are US made from a company called Marena - they make the best compression garments but they can be expensive .. the website seems to be down at the moment for me in the UK but u might have more luck in the US http://marenagroup.com/ - 60k - Cached i have the long sleeved compression garment for my arms and the long legged version with high waist for my 360 degrees abdominoplasty and my body lift .. my legs are swollen as hell due to the disruption to the lymphatic system but this is normal i am told, i am also wearing compression stockings to help this and to help avoid DVT. To be honest i had more trouble recovering from a caesarian lol I have made sure i take my multivitamins, drink orange juice and eat fish and chicken to help with the healing, my PS is very keen on natural type help and really pushes the healthy food to help healing. I have a lot of healing to do and am 2 weeks post op, the scars seem to be healing well, PS is very pleased with the progress and given i am nearly 58 yrs old i could have had a lot more complications than i have so far ... Food is a comfort so try to eat healthy but eat well, and make sure u take your pain meds if u need them. I havent had a lot of pain, it was more soreness and being uncomfortable ... and be prepared to rest a lot, u need to rest to heal so dont rush things at home and take your time to heal properly. feet up when u can and just pamper yourself : good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery ...

List Of "mushy Foods" Please Let There Be Salmon On That List.
I used to make salmon pate with blended salmon and 0 % cream cheese , and would do the same with smoked salmon too .. other fish i found a little harsh like tuna My doctor wouldnt consider salad a mushie at all and i dont think your stomach will either u are still quite early on in the process so u are still healing , take it slow and all will be fine

Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
Totally agree cold is the last thing i would reach for if my band was causing problems. Ice is used to treat trauma and swelling in tissue but the band is not made of tissue just plastic and plastic doesnt do well when its cold .. imo but as we all know everyone is different and so are the medical interventions, the UK do not use ice packs post surgery for lapbands either ... but if it works theres no harm

Feeling Like A Loser...banded 3/23/12 Need Some <3
Sometimes the calories in food dont really reflect what sort of food it is or the make up of it, too much sugar will def put on the lbs if u arent burning it off with vigorous exercise. I did exercise biking and strength as my main exercises and eat around 1000calories a day cycling burned around 500 to 600 intially so get moving more i am sure u will get some more weight off soon

So Frustrated!

Feeling Yucky On First Day Of Pre-Op Diet
Sometimes when u start a pre-op liquid diet its about withdrawals of food that make u feel a bit strange/different/wierd/sick/dizzy most people have been eating too much sugar and carbs and when these are drastically reduced u will get those withdrawal symptoms so stick with it, not everyone gets them ready2loseit so dont be concerned i am sure u will be ok .. most people are

Does Our Age Make A Difference?
Having a lapband fitted and losing weight is far more about determinination and committment rather than age ... work hard at whatever age you are and u should be successful I was 56 yrs old when i had my band fitted !
-
Holy Crap My Band Is Frozen !
I agree my doctor told me the same.... and if i dont drink a warm tea or coffee first thing in the morning i cannot eat breakfast, there are many of us who need warmth to relax the band, ice helps reduce swelling too but often just after trauma or the operation, if i drink something like cold orange juice then try and eat 30 mins later i get stuck .. Warmth is much better .. although like most things there are exceptions and some may very well find relief with ice ..

What To Do :(
It could be many reasons why u arent losing weight, having a band fitted is probably the least likely Now u have to examine calories eaten calories burned, you dont mention exercise or how much you are doing, even if its only walking it still burns calories. Also a difference of 200 calories per day may not seem a lot but if u arent exercising it is quite a lot more than it appears, if u arent doing much u need to eat as fewer cal;ories as possible, so i would try 1000 calories a day and no more ... i wasnt a lucky person and had to fight for every lbs i lost, which did include counting all calories and counting how many i burned with exercise. Some foods are heavy on carbs and sugar and fat which u need to avoid, same as salty processed food and anything processed and white except 0% dairy .. anything else that is white is a no no. Yes some people can lose weight eating pretty much anything just small portions and some lose weight not counting calories, but it sounds like u are very finely balanced and u need to be extra vigilent in what and how much u eat. get some exercise in and reduce your calories slightly and make sure those calories are superfoods like broccoli and beans and chilli etc all to kick up your metabolism. good luck i am sure the scales will start moving soon

Once You Reach Goal..did You Change It?
I know exactly what you all mean and speaking as someone who has been through tons of sizing on her way down i can tell you that in most cases u will never be satisfied with the way you look at goal weight. When i weighed the same as i do now many years ago i would have been 3 sizes smaller than what i am now, even tho i have just had my skin removed there is no way i will ever look like i used to, most of that is down to age and genetics and hormones. Bodies dont like the clock being turned back so they do other things instead, my face, my butt and my breasts were the first areas to lose all this weight and i hate it ... but at least i am healthy now and at 58 i dont suppose it matters as much as if i was 28 so good luck and i hope you get where u want to be

Why Protein Powder?
I always rely on fresh protein, i have never had a protein shake and not really ever needed/wanted one .. in the UK there isnt the push to buy protein powders here and u need to think about in the long term, will u still be buying protein powders 5 yrs post op etc, better to try and eat normal healthy food and get your nutrients naturally. Obviously some will need the extra protein that shakes can offer but names give away what the product was designed for .. Protein suppliments are meant to suppliment a normal diet, meal replacement protein shakes are there to replace a meal, they are much higher in calories and are not meant to be fillers and sliders in between meals .

Port Infection - Erosion?
Fascinating pictures ty for sharing.. I am so sorry to hear of your problems, i hope you are able to sort out the band and get well again soon
-
Delayed Digestion?
I agree with shauna this isnt normal and u need to seek medical help as soon as u can. I am sure this wont have anything to do with the band but u never know, being physically sick as against the stuck sliming sick is not good for the band and can cause some slippage so u need to try and get this sorted out asap. Food can stay in your main stomach up to 8 hrs sometimes longer, as a normal part of digestion .. good luck

Drinking Soda's??
diet soda is full of chemicals too and can in some instances raise your blood sugars.. some people can tolerate carbonated drinks post banding personally i cant but a good alternative would be carbonated spring water and just let it stand for a while to let a lot of the gas go before u drink it
-
No Fill
I agree with the above 2 posters .. i would seriously start looking for a new doctor who will do fills for you and i would also demand a fill from your current doctor .. the band was specifically designed to be filled and if they are refusing to fill you then they really shouldnt be banding anyone to be honest, You need to question this policy and ask them for a copy of the research they are basing this medical decision on. I would then complain to the insurance company paying your bill that this operation was done under false pretences etc ... good luck u have done great on yopur own but darn it i think u deserve a fiil !
