    Exercise partners

Hi all. I haven’t been on this forum since shortly after my surgery. Well, I’m right back where I started but worse because I’m in worse physical shape due to back injuries and surgeries. Is there a forum for meeting up with people in your area to exercise with, have some accountability, etc? Thanks, Holly

    two weeks

Have you started walking or anything. I think I laid around the house too much after my surgery. Once I started using the treadmill mine started feeling better. You know your abs help support your back.

    Banded 7/27/11

I was banded on the 27th as well. I lost 10lbs before surgery and 10lbs in the first 3 weeks after. Right now I'm not losing anything. I was prepared for the pre-op diet, the 2 weeks of liquid post-op and the mushies but I didn't do any planning for this getting back to normal stage. I'm reading cookbooks now and trying to get a grocery list together. I haven't been exercising at all yet. I'm going to try to walk this evening after it cools down a little bit. It's actually really hard to tell if I'm hungry and if I'm full. I've just been trying to measure out portions and that's what I eat. Foods really don't taste that good and I don't seem to have a lot of interest in eating. I go back to my dr. 9-8 and don't know if I'll get a fill or not.
  4. It sounds like to me that your band is working great from my understanding of how it works. It can't go to the gym for you, it can't make food choices for you but if it's helping you eat less.....Once you start getting fills in your band it should help you be comfortable eating even less. Maybe some of the things that you're eating that aren't getting stuck are things that you shouldn't be eating like carbs? It sounds to me like you're doing pretty good.

    UGH, so mad at myself

Just curious as to when you were banded? Mine was 7/27/11 so my first day of real food is tomorrow. I'll tell ya, no matter what anybody says you don't know what to expect after your surgery. This website has been helpful. I still am not sure when I'm hungry or when I'm full. I don't have anything in my band so I've just been trying to eat 3 small meals. Sometimes I still feel hungry after 30 minutes and eat a little more or sometimes I just ignore it. I haven't had any experiences that have made me think that I've overeaten but when I'm eating with friends I find myself eating at a regular pace instead of slowing down, not chewing each bite as much and drinking while eating. So I'm gonna have to work on that. This new deal really requires a lot of thought. I actually haven't even had a soda because I know that I will be hooked again so I'm not even gonna go there. Anyway, we'll get it all figured out and rock it out!

  7. Can you give an example of your lunch and dinner and how much you eat?

    Curves vs Gym

I was a member of Curves in the past and am comtemplating re-joining when I get released by the dr. I think it is less intimidating than the gym, it's only women and the time passes quick. You get your cardio and toning in at the same time. I joined the Y at one time and I swear there were so many kids and teenagers they took over the place and drove me crazy.
  9. I'm 3 weeks postop and hadn't had any trouble with being hungry until today. Yesterday I was really nauseated and didn't really want to eat. I woke up at like 5 am today with my stomach growling but went back to sleep. By the time I got up I was nauseated and not hungry. I took about a 3 hour nap this afternoon and then all evening have been getting food out to eat but not finishing it. Then 30 minutes later I'm hungry again. I'm laying in bed with my stomach growling right now. I hope tomorrow I'd better or I may go postal and attack a pizza delivery guy or something!

    Food Funeral

I felt the same way so I actually lost weight on the preop diet and then regained the last week because I decided I better get it out of my system. I think that is why I haven't had too much trouble missing foods postop.
  11. What kind of infection? Staph or something else? Is it from surgery or from something you could possibly be doing? I might condsider consulting another dr. or there are clinics that specialize in repeated infections. Good luck.
  12. I'm 3 weeks postop with just the band and have only lost 10lbs since surgery. I'm still on mushies for another week. Sounds like you're doing great to me.
  13. I drank the 2 protein shakes but I ate regular food for dinner instead of a lite meal or another shake. I still lost 10lbs. I'm 3 weeks postop and what concerns me are the people not following the postop diet. I have followed pretty darn close and will for the next week. I'm not starving and I'm not risking damage at this point.

    Question for Females

Mine was supposed to be around the time of my surgery, didn't have it. Two weeks later it started and lasted a long time. Mine is normally very regular too since I'm on the pill. I'm not too worried about it. Probably just the effects of anesthesia and having something done to your body.

    pains

Took a week for me to get over the whole body hit by a truck thing.

    One Month Post-Op

I'm in the same place. I haven't gained but losing real slow. We weigh 20 lbs less than when we started so hang in there!
  17. Everybody has commented that they can see it in my face. I have lost 20 lbs and really don't see it or feel it except in the seat of myscrub pants mostly. I have been wearing scrubs since surgery because it's more comfortable with my incisions. I just put on a pair of dress pants Saturday nite and they didn't seem any bigger but the shirt I had on was looser. I think it's hard to look in the mirror and see ourselves like others do.
  18. I know! It's so weird. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post-op and the first week it felt like my stomach was a sack of potatoes or something attached to the front of my body instead of part of me.

    Surgery Today!

Surgery isn't pleasant but I think you'll survive that fine. Just don't get dehydrated like I did. I don't think you're going to have to give up all of your favorite foods. I'm only in the mushy stage but it sounds like you can eat almost anything within reason. Some people can even eat bread. I felt the same way before my surgery, even thought about cancelling but the benfits are gonna outweigh negatives. I didn't have any problem with the liquids diet after surgery and so far I'm actually trying to figure out how to get enough calories with mushies. I know you're surgery is over now. Hope it went great.

    program fee?

    Mine was $350.
  22. Refried beans or bean dip. Tuna or chicken salad if they didn't have things not on list and you could flake up meat pretty well.
  23. Tell you're kids you gonna improve your health and be around forever! Good luck!

I don't want to leave the house

I'll tell you one little secret that makes all the difference. You have to just walk around this world like you own it! I have always been heavy but have always had boyfriends. I'm 248lbs right now and have guys hit on me frequently as well as my BF whos been around for 18 years. I have friends of all ages and types. The trick to getting thru life is self- confidence and not being afraid to laugh at yourself. Try your best to look good everyday. You may not be able to buy smaller clothes but try to make the ones that you have as flattering as possible. Get a hairstyle that always looks great on you and go get a free makeover at a cosmetics counter. And smile and start conversations with people. If your old friends and family are negative you will meet knew people who won't judge you on what you were.
