I have been prepping for lapband surgery
I too started by looking into Lapband until I heard about VSG. I was a selfpay and was looking at the same price you listed for the band. After reading post on this site I decided on VSG, went to Mexico and have never looked back. After reading the problems some people were having with the band and seeing the lack of results two of my friends have had from their bands helped me decide. I was sleeved on January 25, 2010 and as of today I have lost 134 pounds. Keyspriate was sleeved on the same day by the same doctor and she has lost around 95 pounds. So it does work. Good luck on your journey. Gary

Finally! Major Goal Reached - No Longer FAT! Er, overweight!
Congrats Carol, that is so great and I totally agree with you telling people to run don't walk. It seems like it was just a few weeks ago instead of months when we were talking about meeting while having surgery in MX and now look how great you have done. This is great. I am so proud for you and I know Rich is proud of you.:crying: Gotta tell Bill about this. Have you heard from Sam, wonder how she is doing? Hope you and Rich have a great week. Talk to you later Sleevebuddy.

Question for Post-Op patients of Dr. Aceves in MX
I did not have the revision, just the VSG. Hope this helps. 1) When was your surgery with Dr. Aceves? 1-25-10 2) How much weight have you lost? 130 pounds 3) Tell me (briefly) about your stay in his facilities? (i.e., cleanliness, friendliness of staff, attentiveness of his nurses) Nice hotel for 1st night, clean hosptial for three nights. Don't remember walking after surgery without seeing someone cleaning except for maybe late night. Everyone was very friendly with even a couple of the nurses stopping by before they would go home just to tell me they would see me the next day. Another thing I really like is Dr. Campos and Dr. Aceves came in to see me at least three times a day. It seems like Dr. Campos was there all during the day. 4) Did you have any complications, even if they were very minor? I did not. 5) If your child wanted to use this surgeon in the future, how would you feel? I have two daughters, 24 and 32, I plan to help both of them have surgery with Dr. Aceves as soon as we can put the money together. I went first to see how everything went and now it's their turn. 6) How did you get to/from the facilities? I flew into San Diego and their driver picked me up and drove me to the hospital, hotel, back to hospital and back to airport. 7) How difficult was it to schedule your surgery? Called them, they faxed questionare, filled it out and faxed it back. Approved by them and set date. Sent a deposit. 8) What kind of pre-operative requirements does his staff have? Sorry I do not remember all the details but it is not hard to get approved. 9) What do you regret about using Dr. Aceves? I have no regrets about using him. They even emailed information to me after I returned home. Some of the post-op test take time for the results and they let you know if you need to see a doctor. 10) On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you rate your overall experience using Dr. Aceves? 10

is it unusual?
This does not have anything to do with doing the surgery right, I did not and have not had any problems with the surgery. I knew prior to surgery that the drain would be put in because that is what my Surgeon does. I am happy for those of you that did not have to have one, but it was really no big deal having one. They put it in as another way of checking for leaks which if I would of had a leak I would have wanted them to catch it early. My surgery was done correctly with no problems and I have lost 128 pounds since Jan 25, 2010. Pictures are posted if you want to see them. It just a surgeons choice.
-
is it unusual?
That was one of the test they did on me too on the second day after surgery. But they kept a close eye on the drain tube and bag to make sure I didn't have a leak prior to doing drinking test.
-
feelin real good.
Congrats on the surgery and weight loss. Keep up the great job. Gary

is it unusual?
They told me the drain tube was put in as a way of knowing if you have a leak. They would check the bag on the tube to see what was draining into it. They also did other leak test prior to me leaving the hospital. Gary

Aceves people PLEASE HELP :)
All I can do is echo what the others have said about Dr. Aceves. I had my surgery Jan 25, 2010 with him and everything was great. Everything went just like they said it would from being picked up at the airport to being dropped off at the airport 4 days later. I arrived at the Hospital on Sunday and Dr. Aceves met us that afternoon right after we completed our lab test. I paid $8750.00 in January and would pay that again to know I was staying in a hospital under doctor and nurses care 24/7. But that is just me, not trying to start nothing. Good luck with your surgery. Gary
