What are some good ways to mix protein ...minus milk
Have you tried almond, soy, or other non daily 'milks'?? I use unsweetened vanilla almond and it has far less calories than mild and tastes great!

Anyone having surgery in Oct ?
My insurance info gets submitted on 10/7 after my labs!! I'm literally sick w/ worry!! But according to billing my ins usually responds within a few days of submission!! God help me bc paying for this out of pocket will ruin me financially!!
-
zipfizz?
If your labs are coming back good ask you MD about caffeine. Not saying to drink a pot a day, but 1 cup a day (if you are still getting all your water) might not be so bad. My group allows for coffee/tea but not to over do it and as long as we are getting enough water otherwise.

Anyone else go through anesthesia and laparoscopy but wake up without bypass?
Ugh.....I can't even imagine!! I was told that if the RNY wasn't able to be done that the sleeve would be attempted w/ my permission. I don't which one..I'm just ready! I hope things work out and you're able to get through next time w/out any issues!!

got kids?
My daughter is 13 and I'm concerned about the body image issues as my mom (her grandma) is anorexic as well. She knows my weight issues come from years of binge/purge/starve b/c of what my life was like growing up. She is old enough and mature enough to understand that is something I have to do and my body has pretty much shut down from traditional ways and that I need this for better health. We talked w/ a counselor b/c of the eating disorders in my family as well b/c I was scared this would affect her negatively. If I had young kids I, too, might not share. But...one thing we are doing is all eating the same in my family. We have always focused in eating well, exercise etc we will be tweaking our eating a bit more, but my daughter is well aware this way of eating will be for all of us. We focus on eating well for our health and heart- not just for our weight and that has always been our focus due to our family history. I try hard to instill that..it's about healthy body, mind and so on...

HAD IT DONE!
Congrats!! Glad all went well. We were told to bring Gas X dissolveables with us to the hospital or to ask for them...they really help the gas move quicker and alleviate the pressure some.

Anyone else having surgery really young?
I met a girl on here earlier in the week who was 18...she was struggling w/ family and holidays, eating, etc... Congrats to you all who are so young...take charge now and learn all you can. Nothing will hold you back once you all start to feel so good!! Good Luck!

Husband rant!
Hmmm... the only few things that come to mind are these: 1. he is jealous of your success and doesn't want to bring attention to it. if he's not as healthy or fit he may be jealous that you are taking care of yourself by getting healthy and fit. 2. Fear- some men are scared but either don't realize it or don't want you to know. In some of my support groups women have said that their marriage has struggled b/c their husbands are jealous and fearful their wives will get fit, etc and then want to leave or that the wife will get so much male attention. Try to sit down w/ him and talk...see what is going through his head and why doesn't he acknowledge your success. But regardless...congrats to you for doing this for YOU!! Love yourself for all you are doing for you and your family regardless of their 'interest' in the new you

10 days 'til surgery and not excited...
You are not alone.....many people feel as your do. I'm sure the pre-diet and head hunger aren't helping. I dread that as well, but you are doing this for YOU and for what you NEED to be a healthier person. Suggestions: Write something positive down every morning you get up that the surgery will do to improve your life. At night before going to sleep reread it. Remind yourself you WILL succeed and this is a gift to yourself. We all self loathe...even fit & healthy people do it too. Look at this as a new journey in your life...taking a new road, discovering new adventures, etc. Set small goals for yourself. Every 20 pounds do something special- a mani, massage, and so on. Don't give this up - you can do it!!

Weight Goals & questions
Everyone's body is different. Some can lose 50 pounds in 12 weeks and others are slower. The more you have to lose the quicker you sometimes the more you lose initially. It all depends. If you exercise, work out, and really get your protein in you will do well. Many (most ) usually lose their first 100 bt 9-14 months.

Not telling people at work...
My closest co workers know but once I am back and people start to comment I am planning to say I'm working really hard w/ a NUT and working out a lot!

Help! 5 months post RNY and back to Stage 2 and 3
Try adding unflavored protein powder to your foods to get the extra protein that you need. Try non dairy foods like almond milk, almond yougurt, etc.

Waiting! nervous! afraid!......having second thoughts?
@sleeveddivas605- Well...let's pray it will go through. If not...we must form a new plan together! I wish they would get Insurance clearance on things before setting our surgery dates. I feel 'sick' daily w/ anxiety over it!!

What did you do to get out of work for surgery? What did you tell work?
I believe work has to let you, in the case of a planned surgery, request or let them know ahead of time! Just FMLA you have to tell them. I don't have to say what kind of surgery at my employer. I just said it's personal but as long as I have an MD note that states how long I have to be out and when I am returning that is all I am required to have. I would ask HR if I were you. We are able to use any time that we have (sick, vacation, etc) I've only have been at this new employer for 8 months when I have surgery, but they have been wonderful about my privacy etc.

What's your healthy alternative to bread?
Sprouted bread is great but also any grains made from Almond flour as well. Or grain free recipes and making your own. Atkins also has recipes and a break collection, but I've not tried. Also Paleo bread is a nice alternative.Carb Zero is another bread and I also make one made w/ egg white and cream of tartar if you google it! I found a great 20g Protein Pasta that has individual servings in the box and it is very reasonable. I think I paid 6$ for 6 servings. Ciao is the brand as well as a few others.

People's expectations of you...
I am stunned at others rudeness and disrespect!! Although I shouldn't be as so many people are ignorant, but your story was truly heartbreaking. People who are family are that rude?? I'm not sure what I would do.... it doesn't come on over night and it's not leaving that quickly either. I am sorry for your experience and I hope it doesn't deter you from the excitement of your journey!! You got this!!

My GNY Story
Read read read....journals, books, etc. The Big Book of Gastric Bypass is a great start!! My biggest suggestion is to educate yourself, talk to others, and be ready for the next phase of your life! Welcome!!
-
Gastric bypass failures
I have read about the small % of it not working for some- like where the pouch has stretched out far too early and the person either gets it re-done or doesn't lose. I actually read a bio of a personal trainer's journey with this issue and how she fixed it!

Holiday Hell
@395Ron...great ideas as well!! Yes, head hunger is much harder than real hunger. That is my fear as well, since being in recovery from an eating disorder as well. But...we can all do this!! We have amazing support here and thankfully in our everyday lives as well for many of us. This site has been a saving grace for me in so many ways!!

Bypass RNY, Phase one! Liquid diet?
I have heard that Optisource is a good choice and that the unflavored is really "unflavored" so it can later be added to other things later on like jello, eggs, and other foods are you progress. But Dream4tc really hit the nails on the head!!
