Rash around incisions...driving me crazy!
Just to ask..were you putting bandaids or taping down anything around your sites? I had a nasty little reaction from that. I got a new antibiotic cream for that. Good luck. Gayle

how come im not losing?!?!
I completely understand....I was on a 4 week stall that i just came out of today. It's horrible and you hate it but your body really needs time to heal and as long as your doc and nut say your doing the right amounts of food, protein and carbs, then keep going and try to know it will eventually come off.

FINALLY!!
After 4 weeks and 3 days my stall is BROKEN!!!!! Woke this morning and was 4 pounds down! So happy that the scale is finally moving. There is hope for all of us long stallers...it will move again. Gayle

Yes i know the frustration and AHOY...OMG i know how your feeling and pray mine breaks before yours did. Good luck to us all!

Wine at 1 month out?
I can say honestly..this weekend my friend was killed in a horrific car accident and sunday i had a glass of wine I just wanted one and didn't care at the time. I didn't have pain, problems, discomfort, gas or any other problems. Not sure if there is long term effects, but had no issues at the time.

Tell me about your 1st stall......
Still in my first stall. started day 9 after surgery and i'm over a month out now and still stalled. so...so far about 4 weeks and one day. Gayle

these early stalls
I actually quoted that article to several people too. I'ts informative and insightful. I was wondering though if there were patterns of times over the years when you see more of the people here have very early stalls (perhaps duing the first week after surgery) for long periods of time..greater then 3 weeks. Just kind of wondered if it was cyclical ..like full moons and lots of weird patients in the hospital ( for us nurses) Gayle

these early stalls
It seems like (although i have only been here a few months) that there is a lot of early stalls. Like before the typical "3 week stall" So any opinions on why we are not losing weight initially? I mean if we are tracking everything, eating right and exercising and all looks good why are some of us having weeks of no weight loss. Worse off some of us have stopped so early on we feel like we are waiting for the surgery weight loss to start. I know I had surgery August 2nd and lost a total of 13 pounds the first week. then nothing since the 9th of august. I feel like ...ok so when will the weight loss start. I have lost 13 pounds in a month..many times over...i eat high protein, low carb, tons of water and exercise..my nut says..keep on going..yet...we wait for it to start again..or start at all. I know it's frustrating but anyone see this over time..periods when people just don't loose weight initially at all, then long stalls then ...what? does it eventually kick in? go fast? drop slowly...? any opinions on this?

Tired of this thing called 'THE STALL'
I'm so sorry your going through the exact same thing as me.. surgery august 2nd and 13 pounds gone till 7 days after surgery, on august 10th I stalled and as of today, still no weight loss. I have heard everyone say it all..my nut says my Protein, Water, carbs are all perfect but no weight loss and some measurements are even bigger then before....the only hope I can offer, is I'm here with you...I know exactly what you feel and I can hope for us both. I'm sorry again and hope we both loose soon! Gayle Send me a private message if you want!

I need your help.
Texas mon, I totally understand where you are and how you feel. This is my one month anniversary of surgery and I've not lost anything since day 9. It's frustrating and annoying and you want and perhaps do SCREAM your head off!! Everyone I talk to ( in my surgeons office) tells me..its normal, don't worry...bla bla bla.....i can repete it to everyone but it doens't change the way you feel about it not working. It is working, your still loosing inches and it just takes time. One post i read said...if you take your pre op weight (including the pre op diet...way at the beginning) take that weight and your goal weight and see what's the difference...(total weight loss). The artical sayd you are on track if you lost 30-35% of your total weight loss by month 3. and 1/2 by month 6 then so on.... So by looking at your tracker. Starting weight - goal weight times .3 or .35 = (if your tracker is right... 30 -35 pounds should be lost by 3 months out. that's by OCTOBER 11....GIRL...LOOK at that...you have lost 32.6% of your total weight to be lost in LESS that 2 months! WOW SUPER JOB!!!!! see your right on track and even early with the weight loss!!!!! ( i had to do this for me to feel better...too) HOPE I helped make your day!!!! Gayle

Peanut Butter
our Nut said it's the smooth foods and not pureed but i ate powdered peanut butter mixed in the protein shakes...much lower in fat and calories and such and flavors pretty well.

went for check up last friday
I went to the surgeon's office friday and just cried. I told them i'm so sick of being so tried i can barely function. I'm normally perky to the point of nausea! the Nut told me i looked very pale and tired..gee thanks! My 2 biggest complaints were tiredness and the (now 27 day) menstrual cycle...(sorry TMI) The GYN's office took a week to call me back (after i called 3 times) to tell me they wanted to put me on an antibiotic since i must have an infection....nope just got off a course of antibiotics for a REAL infection in my incision site..but noone asked me. She said she'd check with the doc again and call me back. At 3pm on fridays they shut off their phones and your Out of luck till monday. My surgeons NP insisted i call the "doc on call" and demand they do something after a week of no information. I did and they have put me on birthcontrol (3 a day initially for 3 days then 2 a day for 3 days then one till the end of the pack). So i ask the nut if i was eating enough Protein, low carbs, exercising ok and what not...she insisted i was doing everyhting to the T perfect....yet not lost any weight since 9 days after surgery (this friday it will be one month since surgery). They seem to think that this 27 day cycle is holding back my weight loss...GREAT! They drew bloodwork and called me today to tell me I have low Iron leverls ( shocker...) and upped my iron to double what i was taking and increase my B12 to 4 times a week form 1 time a week and keep up the hard work..... i'm frustrated with my body...knowing how angry it is with the sleeve, the hernia repair and the cycle form hell.....but it's got to start giving up the weight soon ( i am praying)! Frustration...frustrations...frustrations...but all i can do at this point is keep on keeping on.... sorry i guess this turned into a HUGE rant and i should have posted this to rants...but i guess i'm a lucky person compared to people with leaks and major health concerns...got to keep the positive thoughts going! backing out
I cried going into surgery because of the fear of "but what happens if I don't wake up" It's a mostly irrational fear as the doc/nurse/everyone else there do this all the time and how many of their patiens have issues let alone die. I checked the stats and yet still cried. I remember the moment i opened my eyes and all i could think was...hey i'm not dead. I can't stop you from feeling bad...but know this i'm an RN and know all the stats on dying on the table...i'm not going in blind, i know these things...i know how most people live and have no major complications..."but what happens of i don't wake up"... Please know so many of us are scared...we save money up adn go through hell to get to this point to be healthier and live longer...but we are still scared. Your not alone and you have to beleive this is for the very best for the longivity of your life. Good luck, never give up on who you can be, and push forward to get past year fears! Gayle

Opinion about my Nutritionist
I have been very lucky, all staff members at Dr Trace Curry's office have been banded or sleved or bypassed. They all know the pain of where we started and the possibilities of where we could go. Even Dr Curry had been banded...they are all people I trust and understand honestly what we are going through! I have tons more faith in a nut who was fat and lived through what we are..then just naturally thin.

Protein and Purees
Chicken and tuna have a lot of protein. Take any healthy high protein food and puree it up for you. I hate the protein drinks and want my protein to come from real food.n..its not hard to do since you can eat so ofen, just be choosy and get the protein in first. I hardly get in anything else.

best explaination for stalls i have ever read
My nut won't give me a calorie count. She said just keep the protein at 60 to 80 and low carbs and the rest will fall into place. Hoping for all of us. To get past this stall!

best explaination for stalls i have ever read
I have had a stall since day 9 of surgery ( 11 days so far.) I am eating plenty of Protein, exercising, drinking lots of Water, very low carbs...so the invariable "what did i do wrong" question has creamed into my mind every day. today i was reading on weight loss stalls and i think i finally get it. It's slightly technical and a bit wordy but overall it explained to me what was happening to my body. I found this on a Duodenal Switch website called DSfacts.com "The Inevitable Stall By Diana C. A "stall" a few weeks out is inevitable, and here's why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a saber tooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. Breathe, and fuggedaboudit for a few days." Hope this helps some of us struggeling with the...WHY ME? phase Gayle

2 weeks post and discouraged
Heatherr, I know exactly how you feel ..scale has not moved from day 9 after surgery..nothing at all. I was so sad about it but know it's normal..just the frustration of going through all of this and not seeing the numbers go down. Hang inthere ..a year from know we will laugh at that little stall becasue we will all be so thin!! Good luck!
