Helpl 16 years out - regain is REAL
I'm feelin' you too. I'm over 5 years out from surgery and have gained back 40 lbs. over the past 2 years. It seems like it just keeps creeping up on me. But I definitely know why it's happening. I've been allowing those bad habits sneak back in and now I'm struggling to get back on track. I appreciate SomeBigGuy's suggestions, though, and will give those a try! LMR422, how are you doing so far with it?

Help Me Decide!
Hmmm.....I REALLY don't know what I would do if I had it to do over again. I chose the plication because I didn't want half my stomach gone with the sleeve, plus I was concerned about leaks, which are less likely with the plication. I didn't want to go with the band because I didn't want to deal with fills, plus my aunt almost died from a leak from necrosis around the band. And I didn't want to do the gastric bypass because, as a nurse, I've seen a few people who are dealing with nutritional issues and anemia that are possibly related to it. So! I chose the plication. However, now that I am a year and a half out from surgery and have only lost about 45 pounds and feel most of my restriction is gone (altough I still can't eat as much as I used to), I am not so sure I would choose the plication again, either. I guess if I was FORCED to decide (as if that would happen!), I might choose the sleeve. Good luck with your decision. It has to be a personal one, so please do lots of research and thinking before you decide which one is right for you. Good luck on your journey!

Good, positive attitude!

I think I'm done losing.
Hang in there! Sometimes we take steps back only to be able to move forward with more motivation again. I'm trying not to get too discouraged, either. My restriction is pretty much gone now, so it's up to me and my lifestyle changes...if I could just make them!! I did work out today, though!

I think I'm done losing.
Thank you for your comment. I have had some major struggles this first year after WLS and have only lost about 53 lbs. Your comment made me realize that I'm not "done" losing weight and that just because I didn't lose 100 lbs in the first year, doesn't mean I'm a failure and that I can't lose more weight in the upcoming years.

Post Op Diet Reminder
Thanks for the update. Hang in there.

Post Op Diet Reminder
Definitely call your doctor! And you might also consider getting some IV fluids if you think you're really that dehydrated. What I would also do is act like you got the plication all over again and start with clear liquids for several days, then full liquids like cream soups, then advance to a soft diet like mashed potatos, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, etc. Then advance to full diet slowly. But make sure you are drinking protein shakes until you can get in enough protein in through your diet. But whatever your doctor advises is always best. Hang in there! I'm worried about you. Keep us posted.

Will Everyone Know?
Oh, yes, I definitely think you'll be able to keep it a secret. People will probably notice that you're both losing weight, but you can just tell them that you've been dieting and exercising and it's paying off. In fact I recommend not telling too many people because they will watch you like a hawk and judge whatever you put in your mouth AND, if you're weight loss stalls or slows down, they'll wonder what you're doing wrong, since of course everyone knows that people lose TONS of weight rapidly with weight loss surgery so it must by your fault if that's not happening. At least that has been my experience. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Post Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery Hunger
Yes, it is normal not to have any hunger initially, mainly because of the trauma and swelling in our stomachs. Make sure to keep those fluids and protein shakes up, though. It's very easy to get dehydrated this early on, plus you need the protein to help with healing and to keep from getting weak. In regards to not losing weight, don't panic. Most people gain several pounds after surgery because of water retention from the IV fluid they give you. It can take up to a week or more to lose that. Also your body is in shock from the drastic change in nutritional intake, surgery, etc. Don't worry, the weight will start dropping off soon. Hang in there and KUP!

10 Month Post Op Gastric Sleeve Plication Surgery
LMom, I'm so sorry that you are struggling as you are. I also agree that the surgery helped me to get the first 50 lbs off and that the rest of it is up to me now. However, when my husband and I were discussing whether or not I should have ANY type of weight loss surgery, one of the things we said was "If it can just give me a jump start on the weight loss, then I could take it from there". Maybe I was being unrealistic, but I was feeling so STUCK that I just needed to lose a bunch of weight quickly right off the bat to get me motivated to continue. And that's what the surgery did. O.K., so I'm having trouble with that motivation now, but I've also been dealing with hip pain, immobility, surgery, and recovery. I'm hoping to get back in gear again soon. You can do this! You are SO close!! And most people gain 6-7 lbs over the holidays without wls, so you did REALLY great! I'm glad you're staying positive and grateful for what you have done already. You're not going to be a failure! I have faith in you!!

Liver Shrink Diet
Definitely check with your doctor as every doctor is different on what they require. You mainly want to reduce calories and fat and keep your protein intake up. The goal is to reduce the fat in your liver so that it is not as heavy when they lift it aside to get to your stomach. Not to scare anybody, but if it is really heavy and fatty, you run the risk of injury to it during the surgery.

I know! It's amazing how many calories we can still consume in one sitting! Hip surgery went well. Having pain, but have good meds!

Moving In The Right Direction Again!
So, the last several months have been very tough for me weight loss wise. I either didn't lose any weight one month, lost only about 3 lbs for a couple of months, and then gained 6 lbs one month! BUT! I tried to get my diet back in line this past month and lost the 6 lbs I had gained plus an additional 6 lbs! I'm feeling so much better that I'm back on track. Unfortunately I have to go in for hip surgery tomorrow which will slow me down quite a bit, but as soon as I'm back to recovery I'm going to try to start getting in some exercise and continue the downward spiral on the scale! So, maybe my weight loss days aren't over yet!!
