  1. Interesting...I didn't think about the mustard. Might be!! Thanks.
  2. I had plication surgery almost 7 weeks ago and really haven't had much trouble with any food I've tried so far, although I haven't tried eating steak, yet. Anyway, tonight my husband made a turkey meatloaf with a mustard sauce recipe that he found in a magazine. It included dry mustard, vinegar and evaporated milk. It tasted just like horseradish sauce which I usually don't like, but I liked this one. Anyway, a few minutes after I started eating it, I started experiencing a strong burning sensation in my stomach. It just got worse and I had to quit eating. I took a couple of Tums and it did subside a bit, but now, more than an hour and a half later, I'm still experiencing some pain and discomfort in my stomach. Anyone else have that problem? I'm pretty sure it had to be the vinegar.
  3. Great present for a Happy Birthday!
  4. Hey there! It sounds like you are doing GREAT!! AND you're doing better than I am on the weight loss. I have been in a stall for 3 weeks now. I might be just now coming out of it, but not sure, yet. We'll see as the week progresses. I'm SO glad you're doing so well.
  5. Yahoo! You're going to do great!! Good luck with your preop diet! I told my doctor the only reason I went through with the surgery was so I could have some soup!! (After a week on the preop)
  6. I'm glad to hear it might ease up eventually! Yeah, I have noticed I don't get it as frequently if I heat a high protien, more filling meal. sugar free Jello doesn't do a thing for it!
  7. Thanks! I'll give that a try, also. I've tried a week of Pepcid, which helped, but not enough, so I'm switching to Prilosec and will see how that works. I'll grab some Gaviscon, though, too. Anything to stop these frustrating sensations!
  8. LOVE this!!! You're hilarious! So glad you're back home and did so well with the surgery.
  9. Thanks for this post. I have completely stalled now that I'm on mushies and it scares me a bit. I need to tweak my intake a little bit as I've been "grazing" somewhat and need to start exercising which I've been avoiding for some reason and I think I'll break the stall. I appreciate hearing your experience, though!
  10. Thanks for the link and the info! I just bought some Prilosec, so I'll see how it works for me. I sure hope it works as these sensations are driving me crazy!
  11. Hi Dawn, That is a good point that you bring up about not being exactly sure what the sensations are or mean. I know it was hard the first couple of weeks to figure out what each "pain" was. So, no, I'm not totally sure it's hunger pangs, but I do know it feels like the way I felt before the surgery when I went a LONG time without eating (didn't happen often) and I would get so hungry I would feel sick. Only it's much worse. However, I don't get shaky or headachy like my blood sugar is low, but it feels like I HAVE to eat right now! And I have noticed that the symptoms don't always go away when I eat, but most of the time they do. Thanks for your input.
  12. Karen, Thanks so much for posting! It did actually make me feel better to know that I'm not alone in this regarding these weird symptoms. Sorry to hear a prescription didn't even help, but glad it's at least somewhat better for you. I'll still try a PPI as I haven't tried that, yet. It's really frustrating and it sounds like you can totally relate!
  13. Rootman, Thanks for the info about the Tums! I'll watch my intake of those. Also, I'll try switching to Prilosec as Pepcid is NOT a PPI and maybe that might make the difference. Haven't tried the crackers, yet, but that's a good idea, too.
  14. I'm just ending my 3rd week post op and I've noticed this past week that I have had horrible hunger pangs throughout most of the day. If I eat something, the symptoms usually, but not always, go away. I've been trying not to drink for at least 30 minutes after I eat, but it just seems like the pangs come back really soon, like within a couple of hours. Some of the previous posts have implied that it might actually be stomach acid pains instead, but I've tried both Tums and Pepcid and neither have really helped much. I'm really worried these hunger sensations are going to continue because they come on suddenly and I have to eat something NOW and I'm finding that I'm eating a lot more throughout the day because of them. I've only lost 1 lb this week and think that might be why, also. Anybody else experience this?
  15. Olivam, I LOVE what you wrote here! Thank you so much for saying it! I have felt the same way and have often felt "put down" for choosing the Plication over the Sleeve. Sometimes it has just been subtle comments, but sometimes not so much. Anyway, I wont rehash it, because you said it all very eloquently.
  16. Hi Maria, I certainly understand your fears. All of the surgeries have potential risks to them. It's just a matter of doing your research and choosing one you feel the most comfortable with. Even though there are supposedly some doctors saying they wont do the plication, I believe it is still going to be done quite a bit more in the near future. I wish we had more long term results on it, though. So far, at 2 weeks out from the surgery, I feel great and am down 21 lbs. Hang in there, the nervousness is normal!
  17. This too shall pass. Hang in there! It WILL get better! Or so they tell me!
  18. Asparagus is considered too stringy and fibrous and I've heard we're supposed to stay away from that for a while, too.
  19. Good for you for the amount of weight you've lost already and for having the courage to have the surgery and get even healthier! I wish you much success!
  20. Good advice about "Just because I can..." I heard a stall is normal about 3-5 weeks out. I'm not looking forward to it myself!
  21. Hi L, I waved at you as we drove through your hometown on our way down there! Nice looking community. I'm feeling much better the past couple of days with very little pain or discomfort now. But, it's a learning experience trying to figure out what the pains are or not to overeat, etc. Yesterday I ate a small amt. of Soup a little too fast and I hurt for about 15 minutes afterwards. Like they say, if you feel like you're full, don't take that one more bite! I'm usually having a Protein shake or cream of wheat for breakfast, then drinking flavored Water, iced tea, crystal light etc, in between meals. Lunch and dinner are usually 4 oz of soup...cream of chicken, split pea, cream of potato, etc. Then I'll try to fit in a little bit of a Protein Shake in the evening but most of the time I'm too full for that. I've been adding unflavored Protein powder to the Soups. I'll ocassionally have a sugar free popsicle or some diluted sugar free pudding. I'm down 17 lbs since starting the preop diet 2 weeks ago! We told my husband's parents last night about my surgery. I thought they would be critical, but they were very supportive and excited for me, although full of advice, of course! I'm not sure when I'll be back down to see Cottam again. I'm thinking 3-6 months with 6 months for sure. I'll definitely let you know and we can meet and share our successes! How are YOU doing so far?
  22. Good food suggestions! Thanks!
  23. Yeah, me too! 6 days post op! Feeling o.k., though. I sure hope it's just in the first few days and not a risk down the road!
  24. Welcome back! I've been thinking of you and hoping everything went well for you. I, too, get worried about these other posters who say they can eat more than they thought. But I'm trying to just remember that we are all different and you and I may not have the same experience as they have. Also, even if we are able to eat more than we thought, we still need to stay focused on NOT doing that, if we can!
