Liver Shrink Diet

I'm unclear on what I should be drinking for my pre-op liquid diet. I started the master cleanse yesterday but after doing a bit of research it seems I should be doing high protein low carb. Were you told specificially what you should consume? I'm scheduled for surgery on 1/18.

I was allowed any protein shake under 250 calories. I drank a soy protein from whole foods called Alive. I drank it in juice. I am still using it post op.

who is your Dr. I am also scheduled on the 18th but I haven't heard anything about a master cleanse.

Definitely check with your doctor as every doctor is different on what they require. You mainly want to reduce calories and fat and keep your protein intake up. The goal is to reduce the fat in your liver so that it is not as heavy when they lift it aside to get to your stomach. Not to scare anybody, but if it is really heavy and fatty, you run the risk of injury to it during the surgery.

Master Cleanse is the cleanse that uses Fresh Lemon juice, grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper. I lost 18lbs in 15 days when I did it last April. From what I read online it's suppose to flush the liver but I'm not sure if it will shrink it also so I switched to high Protein low carb instead which was the common suggestion on several weight loss surgery forums and websites I found.

I'm starting the 10 day Master cleanse on 1/8 just to try to get a head start on the 5% I need to lose. I'm scheduled for 2/13.

My dietician has put me on a 2 week low carb high protein diet which doesn't use meal replacement drinks since (in her words) my belly isn't where I'm carrying my weight. Normally though she puts people on Optifast liquid diet VLCD.
