My partner works in a hospital flipping patients. He sees this all the time. It's usually because the patients have been pretty stationary while in bed. If you didn't move around much, it could just be Fluid accumation (especially with as much as they pump into you). Hopefully a few days have passed now and you are up and about and there is improvement!

Glad you enjoyed the article. I'm not sure I'm worth more mention than any of us here, though. We all help each other so much.

You will probably end up getting more here than you will from you doctors and nutritionists, in my experience. You doctor spends and average of 5 minutes with you on any given visit and your nut will spend a little more but not much. Sorry to say...

Thanks for the link! It was a good interview. I'm glad that they gave u a forum to not only talk about having a vsg, but I liked that u also discussed having it in TJ. I'm in awe. I know I've said it before, but u truly r an inspiration. The weight loss and physical achievements speak for themselves, but the fact that u r a positive voice that can speak to others about ur experience is admirable. Way to go on impacting the lives of others.

    Hi guys
I've been lurking about for a bit but thought I'd finally say Hi as I've finally got my date for surgery.
I am based in the UK and had a band op in Belgium (self funded) in 2005. I loved it and lost a lot of weight quickly. Met a guy and fell in love so didn't worry too much about losing anymore. I messed about big time with my fills. And was never really happy after the initial honeymoon period.
I suffered with reflux whenever I had any restriction therefore my band was quite loose a lot of the time so I started regaining. I fell pregnant unexpectedly in 2009 and me & my partner split - cue massive emotional eating (and eating 'for 2')
I had problems with getting a fill last year and under xray they discovered my band had slipped so now I have been offered a sleeve and am very lucky to be getting it on the NHS. I luckily have no co-morbidities but am suffering hip, knee and foot pain quite badly.
I made my decision that I need to give another op a try and am excited at having another bite at the cherry while also worrying that I'll sabotage this op as I did the band and ultimately that I'll die and leave my little girl all alone...
The fear of dying is paralysing me and combined with stress at work I've been signed off for a couple of weeks. So now I have the chance to come on and immerse myself in 'sleeve talk'.
Thankfully over the past few days I've decided to try cut out the junk food and help get healthy for the op. Not easy as when my 3yr old is acting up I am craving chocolate and crisps hehe.
Well thanks for letting me share, hope to be speaking to you all a bit more during my journey.....

Check out THIS article from the Las Vegas Sun.
He was then asked to do a segment on NPR, too! I had the privilege of listening in live, but the podcast is now posted HERE.
If you are needing some inspiration or are wondering what your potential is, then you have to check these out.
Congrats to you, Mark, and to all others deciding to follow his path.

I am very new to all of this.. I will go to orientation on Feb 19. I've been lurking on this board for a couple of weeks trying to absorb all I can.
About 25 years ago I lost 140 pounds by literally starving myself. I maintained the loss for 5 years by walking 3 miles a day and continuing my starvation diet. Life's stressors kicked in and I started gaining and stopped exercising and I am at my highest weight ever now.
I never thought I would consider WLS because a dear friend of mine died a few years ago, from complications from gastric bypass surgery, one week after the procedure. I have other friends ( married couple) who had gastric bypass surgery and both are heavier now than before the surgery.
Reading stories on this board has given me new hope. I m just so tired of being sick and tired! And I want to be around to enjoy my grandchildren. We are taking our two oldest grandchildren to Disneyland this weekend, and while I am excited for them, all I can do is worry about fitting in the airplane seat, making it through all the walking at the airport, and facing the reality that I will probably have to rent a scooter at the parks.
I wish all of you the best and hope we can soon compare our success stories!

My wife is certainly supportive in general, but I'll tell you that this process has been harder on her than me. She's very worried that I'll change, that I'll get 'too skinny,' etc.
Definitely a weird dynamic. The excellent book 'Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery' has a lot about this and more. Strongly suggest it.

    http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/jan/28/marathon-runner-mark-noel/
Shortly after this story was published, I was contacted by NPR to participate in a round table discussion. During the course of the 45 minutes we were on the air, we discussed my journey and whether weight loss surgery was the answer for many people. I was on with the head of UCLA's Bariatric Surgery unit and discussed the VSG and other options for people with weight issues. As soon as the podcast is available, probably tomorrow, I'll post a link to it and you can down it.
It was hard to come 'out of the closet' to tell everyone about my surgery. Even now there are comments that somehow I'm weak for having the surgery and not doing this on my own. As the doctor on the show pointed out, 97-99% of the people who try to do this on their own without surgery will fail and likely gain even more weight. Without addressing all the issues, you are setting yourself up for failure.
    Enjoy my story...

My husband was pretty much the same way. But in the end he was just worried about me dying on the table. Now that it's done, he has actually began to watch his own diet better. Your wife won't need to plan meals much, at least not for you, because you probably won't be hungry post-op and when you are you will need to focus on Protein first. Once you are able to eat regular foods again, you can eat whatever you want, just only a few bites. I told my hubby he was on his own for dinners until I could eat more and then I'd start cooking again. He was ok with that....so maybe tell your wife not to worry about it creating more work for her, cause if anything it'll be alot less.

I'm reading this and kind of chuckling to myself. I know I'm a little 'compulsive' when it comes to things I really want, too. It really won't matter all that much whether you have everything you think you need. You'll adapt and I can tell you'll succeed because this is something you really ready for. Let me just say - You'll screw up :-) This is a tool we have to help us from screwing up too bad. Part of the reason we have failed in the past is that once we screwed up, we beat ourselves up so badly that we set ourselves up for further failure. We are only human and less than perfect. You will do great. Keep focusing long term and you'll succeed.
