massindex got a reaction from vanb0052 in How Successful Was Your Surgery?
    I'd have to say a 10. I had surgery 53 weeks ago and I've lost 200+ lbs so I think that's a 10. It's pretty been what I expected.

Good for you. Walk away from the dark side of the force :wink1: Anyone who thinks this is easy, needs to walk a mile in our shoes. WLS is a tool, not the cure-all. There are plenty of people who have failed because they lacked discipline and desire. Ignorance breds hate and hostility and you don't need it.

Gah! Some people! But that's right, just "whatever" those people. You're doing fantastic and those types just want to cut you off at your knees. Don't let them.

Just for a different view, I pretty much tell them that I've lost over 200 lbs. I felt I needed to own it in order to accept my decision to change my lifestyle. Hiding it was something I did when I was overweight.

You know I got some good advice once on this board when the same thing happened to me. I was told to just say, which I did, "I'm trying to lose weight and nothing appeals to me right now. (Smiling) I just want to go with this as long as I can." Everyone laughed and we moved on. Several weeks later, the same thing happened again. I just said "I like the results so I'm sticking with what works (Smiling)." It no longer became an issue and now is a source of admiration.

My life is so different in so many ways it would be hard to describe. Let's just say that I control my life now and I'm not controlled by the food anymore. Just remember, each of us is our own vehicle and the journey time is our own.

I'm 1.5 years out and eat an average of 2000. I eat out almost every day, so I am not sure about the exact count most of the time. I work out hard 3x/week.

Yu know its funny but these little milestones like "I ate 3 shrimp", "No nausea or vomiting" or "I had 3 oz of ground turkey" are such big things for us! I guess that's why we need these forums to share the uniqueness of what we put ourselves through to change our lives.

I just recently hit my 200+ lost number after my first year and I'm nearly at my goal weight. But don't anyone measure themselves against me! Each person is their own vehicle and on their own journey.

massindex got a reaction from kgb in Muscle Depletion?
So I just finished my second half marathon and I've noticed something consist with each race. About half way through, my body seems like it completely depletes of any energy stored. I don't seem to be able to store enough energy to keep me powered, my legs begin to cramp and my toes stand straight up. I don't feel like its fluids because I'm pretty well hydrated and I'm drinking both Water and electrolytes on the course.
Has any one got tips or ideas what is going on? I don't seem to have these with my sprint triathlons, which are shorter distances (at least on the running and swimming side). I'm wondering if my inability to consume enough calories because of the VSG will prevent me from running these half marathons all the way. I end up having to walk in the last 5-6 miles, which goes against my 'overly' competitive nature.
    Thoughts?

massindex reacted to 300PoundsDown in I weigh 400 lbs...will this help me?
I started this post when I was looking into surgery so I thought i'd come back and update. I had the surgery in July and I'm down 95 lbs 5 months later. I wish I was losing a bit faster but I have not been as diligent with my protein/water/calories as others. Basically I have no desire to eat and I am never hungry. I've kind of been relishing in that feeling! I think it's amazing. However, I want to maximize my progress so I'm going to get back to being diligent about getting all Protein in. This has been a true answer from God for me in my life!

Boy, so many have said it so well. It does change life and kills the old life as well. I started at 407 lbs a year ago and I'm now at 209 lbs. A year ago, I could barely get up the stairs to my place with out losing my breath. I've just completed my first triathlon and first marathon in the last month. If you go into this knowing you need to make the change or your old lifestyle will kill you, you can accept anything thrown your way. It's not just a lifestyle change but getting your life back.

I travel nearly every week and have done so since the first week after after my surgery. TSA doesn't have much of a problem with prepackaged Protein, especially Jerky, Protein Bars, etc. However, drinks are another issue. Still can't get pass that one. You can bring protein powders, however, which I have done. Also, prepackaged Water additives are allowed.

It won't be easy but you can do it. I've lost 192 lbs in the last 11 months and I just completed my first triathlon. Set the goals (don't worry about stalls, they will happen) and reward yourself. Also get to know your local Goodwill center (the place where you drop all the clothes you currently off... and most of those that you buy on the way down). It's a really exciting trip to Healthville!

Personally, I had never had Greek Yogurt before my surgery. I looked at the Protein when I was on the mushy part of my diet and said "I gotta try this." I love it now, especially with fruit. It's a regular part of my morning Breakfast.
By the way, Epicurious just a taste testing and I pretty much agree with their results.
