  1. I tried to make some broth with some unflavored protien powder and it got all clumpy and gross. I was wondering if anyone else has tried adding the protien to soup and can tell me what i am doing wrong. Does it only go well in creamy soups or can it go in broth too? Thanks for any advice
  2. Do you take a multi-vitamin twice every day? My surgeon and dietician have a very detailed course that we had to attend to learn about vitamin deficencies, and Hair Loss was a biggy with malnutrition and not getting the proper vitamins needed. I paid close attention to this mainly because I was loosing my hair with my throid problem and I didn't want to loose more hair with getting surgery. If you don't take the vitamins, you may want to look into the Bariatric Advantage Chewable ones, they are not that bad tasting and not all vitamins are created equal. These are made specifically for Lap Band patients and the challenges of vitamin deficency that happens after surgery. Hope this helps! Good Luck!
  3. Hi! I am only a few day out from being banded, and I have posted a few things, mainly because I get the most honest answers from everyone on this board. It is such a change of life for me, that yes, I have some concerns and questions. Overall though, I do not feel like it has been a terrible expierence. I agree with what most of the these people have said, that most of the "discouraging" posts are probably newbies, but it's a great place to come to ask questions if you have any concerns when you are newly banded. As you may have questions or concerns once you get your surgery done! Although it takes some getting used to, It is a great decision to have it done if you can follow the rules! Good luck to you!
  4. Kellyanne, you make me LOL about the steak comment! I totally agree! I woke up out of surgery hungry! I am on a liquid diet but it is killing me, especially because my surgeon recommends all his patients do it before hand too. I can eat a bowl of soup and still be hungry for Jello. I even gained a few pounds the day home from hospital (hopefully because of surgery) discouraging it was. I had no idea I would be wanting to eat like I do. And two more weeks of liquids! OMG, I feel like, just get this two weeks over with so I can eat some dang food! lol
  5. Just wondering from all of you that have had your bands for awhile, do you ever eat Pizza anymore? I have seen that many people do not tolerate bread well at all, but is it the same for Pizza? I know that it is not the best choice of food, but i loved pizza and I am just wondering if I will ever be able to eat it again? Not that it's going to happen for me for a long long time. Just wondering!?
  6. So maybe I am a worry wart, but when I was sleeping last night, I unconsiously tried to turn to my side to sleep (I am only two days post-op) and I felt something strange, so It woke me up and I quickly turned back to laying on my back. Tonight, I noticed that there was a little bit of blood outside of the steri strip and when I touched it, there was a little bit of blood on my finger. This is at the largest incision on my belly. I am wondering if I could have popped a stitch or if that is just normal from moving around that it may weep a little bit. Any thoughts about this?
  7. I am right in the same boat with you! I was banded yesterday and I got on the scale this morning and I was up from 255 to now 258, I hungry too. I even ate a bowl of soup when I got home from the hospital last night. I know it is discouraging, but it will pay off in the long run. That is what I keep telling myself! Were in this together! Good luck and keep me updated!
  8. I completely understand! I just had surgery this morning! and I am already home! I was so scared and nervous before the surgery this morning, I even started crying! But everything went so smooth that they even sent me home early! You will do great, it is normal to be nervous, but it will be over and done before you know it! I can tell you from my own expierience just today! Good Luck! You will do great!
  9. Hi Everyone! I just had my surgery today! hooray! I was supposed to stay at the hospital overnight, but they let me go home this evening becauseI was doing so well. I was just wondering, was anyone elso hungry the day of surgery? I am really hungry! I ate soup, broth, jello and a litttle bit of iced cream that they gave me at the hospital today but I had to make myself some soup when I got home tonight and then I ate some more jello too. I thought for sure that I wouldn't be interested in food today because of the surgery, but boy was I wrong! I think it may a long 6 weeks till I get a fill! Was anyone else this hungry the day of surgery?
  10. Thank you all for your replies! I know that my friends situation was not normal, but I was worried that the only way to deal with something getting "stuck" was to throw it up. I hope I never do!
  11. I am having surgery on Friday April 22, 2011. I am nervous for the surgery, but more afraid of throwing up. I had a friend who had lap band surgery several years ago, and she threw up after almost every meal. She actually got so used to it, that even now three years later, she automatically throws up her food. I DO NOT want this to happen to me! I am so afraid to throw up, and I was wondering of anyone who has had surgery could tell me if it is very common. If something "gets stuck" is throwing up the only way to get it out? I haven't gotten sick but only a few times in my entire life and it was so traumatic for me. Is anyone else afraid of this?
  12. I know right! I was so excited about getting my surgery that I didn't consider the date of it. How sad is it that I considered rescheduling my surgery because Easter is two days after, and my whole entire family will be in town and going to brunch. I have to be there because I made the plans way before I knew my surgery date. My Mother-in-Law always makes me a huge Easter basket filled with candy. UUUGGh! I guess I will watching everyone else while I sip my clear liquids! Although I am determined not to let it bother me. I can't imagine how hard it is to have children to make easter baskets for. I am sure it gets easier once you have the surgery. I will be thinking about you on your surgery day, Again, Good Luck! Tracy
  13. I am having surgery on Friday too! I am scared as well. But it's going to be worth it! Good luck!
  14. OMG, I have to share with you that I know exactly how you feel! It's like you said exactly what I was thinking and going through too. My surgery is in 5 days and I was having the exact same issue. I even called my dietician and asked if she had any advice for me because I was really struggling with the Pre-op diet. I felt like, if I can't do it now, will I be able to do it after I have surgery? Exactly what you had said, I thought I was totally ready, and then I get to the pre-op diet and I totally blow it. It was hard for me to grasp too, because there are people in my nutrition class that had a different surgeon and he didn't require them to do any pre-op diet at all, but my surgeon does. I was like, What? That's not fair! But I do realize why my doctor wants us to do the liquid diet, but OMG is it difficult to do. Especially when you go from over-eating to just protien shakes. I did the same thing, I would start out doing great but by the end of the night, I was famished, and would eat crackers or something solid. Then I would be so mad at myself for eating them. I also felt the same about wanting to eat everything that I love like it''s the last time that I will ever get to have it. I LOVE food, and it is my comfort too. I know exactly how you feel. I am going to make a huge effort to follow my pre-op diet until Friday, but believe me, I know how hard it is and exactly how you feel. Good Good Luck with everything, Don't postpone your surgery, my dietician said the pre-op diet is something that a lot of people struggle with. Just think of all the good things that will come from getting the Lap-Band. I am right here with you. Please let me know how everything is going. You can do it! I can too!
  15. Hi! I just posted for my first time tonight. I am feeling the same way, I am so excited but once I got the date (earlier today), I started to feel a little nervous! I hope everything goes really well for you, and let's keep in touch if you like, my date is 4/22/11. Good Luck!
  16. After being denied from my insurance and going through a long appeals process, I am SO HAPPY to say I was finally approved and my surgery is scheduled for 4/22/2011. Although I am extremely excited, I am nervous. But excited! Hooray!! Good luck to all of you that are getting your surgery soon!
