mind over matter?
Hello fellow sleevers... As you probably know, I am a slow loser... of course this is frustrating, but (and it is a big but, no pun intended) I am concentrating on the positive and feel good generally... When I was moaning to my hubby he said that it might be a 'mental' thing.... due to the fact that I have been big for such a long time, my 'head' doesn't want to get rid of the weight... almost using it as a comfort blanket?! I did (still do to a degree) use my weight as a joke.. to make people laugh etc and I am one who will take the mickey out of myself! For fun reasons only... I was just wondering if anyone else thought along these lines and how they turned it around. I still have a lot of weight to lose ... thanks in advance x

July Surgeries
Hey, yea, you are both right...thank you!! the 6 weeks school holidays would have been a gian around the ole waist!! That is a good positive to thnk about... Good luck Chilo for next week.. let me know how it goes! I haven't tried the fatsecret thing... tried one and it was too fiddly for me and got on my nerves... what is this one like? Easy to use? x

July Surgeries
Hello all... I am still being a moaning minnie... the scales and tape measure are being mean again...lol... yes yet another couple of weeks with very little movement and I am soooo frustrated! Trying to be positive but I am finding it difficult! I don't really understand why I am not losing 'better' when I am eating so little, moving a lot more, drinking plenty of Water, following the programme and I still have a fair few pounds to shed... I could do with a NSV right now... xx

I feel like being thin will solve ALL of life's problems.. Which just isn't the case.
Pinkbetty, I completely understand where you are coming from as I feel very similar!! What I seem to forget, is that people do not really see me as 'fat' ... what they see is this woman who is funny, confident and out-going... who loves her job and is good at it... who is a great mam and a lucky wife... Basically, our self image is really different to what others see ... x

Going back to the gym
Hiya Chilo, I've been going to the gym in work for a week or two... I too can't do that much but I try to break it down and like thinoneday, I try to add a little extra each time. I do 20 -25 mins on the bike, 10 mins on the stepper, 10 mins on the running machine (fast walk) and 7 mins on the rower... this is where I am now. I too add some free weights. I have also started Zumba which is a load of fun and I certainly build up a sweat... good luck and keep it up! x

Depressed! Gaining Weight!
Hey, Congratulations on losing 26lb in a month (I am 10 weeks out and I've lost 30lb, which I am chuffed with!) Try not to stress over the stall thing, I, like many others get them often, so I measure and look for other positive signs, like loose rings, loose clothes, the ability to do exercise again etc. The one thing I have noticed about myself is my water consumption... I do better when I get plenty of clear fluids... have you tried that? BUT, remember four weeks out isn't long and you are doing great... hope the stall breaks for you soon x

And the stupid comments begin...
the woman sounds crazy... what a horrid reaction... just remember why you had the sleeve, bask in the glory of your success and stuff her!!!

July Surgeries
I'm trying to re-think my exercise/activity goals. I feel the "experts" have caused me to become discouraged over the last couple of decades. We were told things like, "you must warm up before exercising, you must exercise at least 30 minutes with your heart rate at X or it was useless, you must stretch before you do whatever, etc. etc. etc." This week I started thinking about how much more active I was before I was so "educated." Do kids stop to think, "oh I can't run over to the other side of the yard because I haven't warmed up? I'm not planning to become a world class athlete. So I'm going to forget the expert advice. If I'm walking and I feel like running, I'm gonna, stretched or warmed up or not, and when I feel like not running, I'm gonna stop. I will take the stairs instead of the elevator at work. I will park farther from my destination. I will make any excuse to move more!!! Anyone else have any ideas to keep our bodes moving??? I have a desk job, so it's going to take some thought to add activity during my work day. I hadn't even thought about that... but you are soooo right!! We get told so much stuff that who know what is right or wrong, and I agree with you... make it personal, what suits you and what you can do in your life style that is maintainable... I think the idea about taking the stairs etc is a really good idea because if we can fit in a little extra here and there it has to make a difference in the long term! I try to vary my exercise so I don't get bored, I have a real low boredom threshold...lol :tongue_smilie: I like my wii fit and do that once (maybe twice) a week, I will go to the gym in work (its free) but only if I have company as I get so bored otherwise, and I have started Zumba and that seems a lot of fun... one down fall is that my old groin strain has reared its ugly head and hurts like hell... hopefully it will be ok for Wed when the next Zumba class is on!! Just gotta keep moving...lol

Help! I have stalled majorly!

Help! I have stalled majorly!
Hey Ainsley, No problem, glad to have helped... it is easier for me to think outside the box and be more objective... I am trying to focus on the positive stuff as my weight loss is slow and inconsisitent and I just feel that looking at what I have done as opposed to what I haven't done is much better! I think, and I am no expert, that the Water thing might be your key... just drink as much as you can and see what happens... let me know how you get on... I know it really helps me. In my (humble) opinion, now that you have no medical issues, you have already reached your goal!! What an acheivement that is for you... I know my main goal is to be healthy in this body; to be able to be fit and active is as important as what the scales read or what clothes size I can wear! As regards medical weight, I feel it is very personal to everyone; my medical weight is so low, I can't even imagine what I would look like there (119lb) and I have never been that weight in my adult life!! So, I have set myself two goal weights; the first being reasonable and the second being ultimate!! But as long as I don't gain I will be pretty much happy... Let me know how you are doing xx

Help! I have stalled majorly!
Hello... the whole stall thing really sucks and is very discouraging! I keep getting mini ones and I am only 10 weeks post op, I find them frustrating and annoying but I try to look at it this way; I haven't gained... BUT... what a fantastic weight loss you have had already! I bet you are looking and feeling great and that makes a huge difference in itself. Do you want to lose another 29lb or do you need to? Sounds daft I know, but that might help the positive train of thought???? :crying: Another positive... when you do reach your target weight, look how easy you will maintain it....????? :tongue_smilie: Just an idea ... what about Fluid? Are you drinking plenty of Water? Especially if you have increased your exercise?! Hope you see some movement soon, keep us posted x

frustrated with inconsistent weight loss... anyone else?
Hiya COGSP, thanks for the insight... interesting about the high v low fat on the low carb front. I will give it a go! Well done on your success so far... how is the plication going, I don't really know the difference to be completely honest!! Unfortunately, this week, I haven't lost a pound... no weight, no inches and I am gutted!! I haven't changed a thing, low carb, plenty of Water and exercise three times! *sighs* That ended in a bit of a splurgh yesterday, which I think did me good mentally.. if that makes sense! I know this will work for me, logic says that... I suppose I would just like to see a little movement on a regular basis... hey ho!! Happy sleeving ... x

At a stall need help please!!
- inconsistent weight loss ... anyone else? (again)
I defo agree with this... last week I lost a pound... ok not great, but not a stall or a gain, so that is good... but... I measured and lost 3 inches!!! That felt good! I also take a photo every two weeks... there is definately a difference there too! I have upped the excercise this week, so I am hoping for my 'offical' weigh day to be better... Sat is the day!! However, I do weigh most days, but the difference is that I don't let it effect me now. I concentrate on all the positives such as the inch loss, the loose clothes, loose rings on my fingers, having one neck instead of three, the being able to do an hour of exercise in one go and not it small 10-15 mins sessions... it is all a part of the process and I am starting to get that now! xx- How can you tell the difference?
Hi... I am losing slowly, but my clothes are getting looser and looser... last week i lost a 1lb but lost 3 inches, that really helps me with the slow scale thing!! I have also noticed that my rings are getting looser and looser, and I can now wear my engagement ring and my wedding ring all day, every day... morning noon and night!!! That, my sleeve friends, is priceless for me and more important that the scales moving!! I think that I am starting to see other positives of this process... not just the weight loss!! Keep up the good work fellow sleevers x- Hobbies...
Hobbies are a great way of taking your mind off food; I like to draw, this gives me a sense of satisfaction when I have finished. I also play word games on line such as scrabble... both ot these help me take my mind of food and the feeling of hunger be in real or in my head... Good luck with your hobbie x- 1 month post-op sleevers
Hey! I am certainly glad and pleased that have my sleeve... 9 weeks post op I am down 30 lbs which, I am pleased with, and although slower than most, it is still good for me! I can eat pretty much anything and I am controlling my portions well. Mentally I haven't had a huge problem, there has been ups and downs, days where I feel blue but I don't crave or need food... I think I have had a little head hunger, but a glass of Water soon cures that! I haven't told many people, and sometimes I feel guilty when I get compliments from co workers who don't know... but I am dealing with that and I am slowly beginning to feel better about not telling them the truth... I just say that I am following a low carb, healthy eating diet and people seem to believe me! The friends and family that do know have been mostly amazing... my close family have been really supportive, especially my hubby who supports me every step of the way. I have only had one silly comment and I managed to brush it off without too much trouble...lol... my friends are amazed at how different I am starting to look, and how healthy I look too and that is really encouraging because for me it is about a healthier and happier lifestyle! Physically, well that is a weird one! Some days, I can look in the mirror and smile at myself as I seen a smaller me and other days, all I see staring back at me is a 'fatty' but I know this is my own self esteem and I am trying to work on that. On a more positive note, I am doing a lot more exercise, varying what I do, and I am, at last, enjoying it and starting to push myself to get better. Due to my slow weight loss, I have set myself mini goals and these help me stay motivated; these include things like, getting into a pair of jeans that didn't fit me 4 years ago (never worn!), wearing shoes with heals to work and no pain in my foot or calf, wearing my engagement ring everyday without my fingers swelling ... I only have about 7lbs to go for my next goal and that is swimming with my kids!! Sounds silly but they've really helped me! I hope this helps... xx- Friends on diets
thanks Jane... I really don't think they would 'get' it... I remember, probably this time last year, I mentioned good old Fern Briton and her band ... oh you should have heard what they said... it was criminal and sooo judgement... I then pipped up, 'God I would have it done at the drop of a hat!' and they told me off... nothing wrong with you or your weight came the reply... hence the reason why I have told only two peeps!!- When will my hair stop falling out??
Hiya Jane, Phew... I can certainly feel little spikes, so hopefully they will grow as the rest leave home...lol... having a hair cut wed and will ask my hairdresser what she recommends... i don't mind fine if i can disguise it... bald just freaks me out though!! - inconsistent weight loss ... anyone else? (again)
