  1. I also want to add that it is good you keep checking your bp. We routinely check bps before giving bp meds. So long as systolic (the first number) is >90, it is usually ok to give. Some bp meds also can drop the heart rate so it is good to check that as well and make sure you don't go below 50. Some doctors may put different restrictions on the meds if you are prone to having you bp drop so it is always good to check.
  2. I'm a nurse and I like everybody's advice so far. Call the doc today. That's why they get paid the big bucks.
  3. My heart goes out to you. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost my brothers. I think he must be watching over you then.
  4. Yeah definitely. You can go to the doctor's office and they have dermabond there so they can close it. After it is on, I can see letting it be "Open To Air" to heal.
  5. When I'm sipping my fluids, I can have maybe 3 small sips in a span of 5 -15 minutes or else my belly gets really gurgly and I get burpy. Sometimes I feel a tightness not necessarily in my throat but in the top of my chest like I am most definitely super full. When that happens, I back off and don't drink anything again for at least 15 - 30 minutes.
  6. LOL!! I wish I could have been anonymous, but at the same time I know they really cared for me well. I couldn't really open my eyes yet in PACU and I was nauseated and only remembered talking when they asked me questions. I am going back to work on Tuesday so hopefully there isn't anything else to it besides that! LOL Besides that I am doing fine after surgery. I got to go home after one night and I am taking mostly tylenol for pain. Still getting used to this!
  7. I've been drinking EAS chocolate protein mixed with skim milk. Then I sip on a vitamin water. Then I have some kind of broth. That is what I've been eating this week since my surgery on tuesday. no problems!
  8. In the medical field, if you had surgery Tuesday, that is Day of Surgery. Then Wednesday is Post Op Day 1 and so on.
  9. I'm just glad you got checked out. Let us know how it works out.
  10. This is so awesome! Good for you!
  11. I have the opposite problem! My hubby comes home from his office and sits with me and I keep begging him to make something to eat and he won't. I am still on the full liquids post surgery and I have no appetite. I try to tell him that I'm not even jealous that he's eating and I'm not. LOL It will work out eventually!
  12. I had my VSG done on tuesday as well. I am tolerating the pain fine with just tylenol (lortab gives me the itchies!). But then again I didn't have a hernia either. Your surgeon sounds like a winner. My surgeon, I feel is quite competent, but is rather lacking on the personality-side. He has a way of making me feel very unsettled by over-taking our conversations and repeating spiels that I think he recites before he comes to work. I can tell he cares that I succeed, but sometimes I wonder if it's not just so that his numbers look good. Anyway, it is done, and I feel good. I won't have to see him much more now, even though I will follow up with the office for quite some time. I will be talking with the nurse practitioners instead.
  13. Congrats on your weight loss! A loss is a loss!
  14. This is a sore subject for me since I had a lot of trouble losing preop weight and my doctor postponed my surgery too. After that I totally gave up carbs. No pasta, no fruit, not even whole grain bread. I was not fun to live with during this time. I would pace around the kitchen and know that I couldn't do it, or else I'd never get the surgery. I did make sure I got lots of protein with a chocolate whey protein and skim milk shake. It tastes pretty good, and is filling. Good luck!
  15. Today is a good day. I'm just chilling at home and resting. I have already finished my protein for the day and now starting some water and juice mixed 50/50. Pain is not bad at all today. I took the lortab elixir and I noticed that it makes me itchy and drowsy. So I will stick to just plain tylenol for now. I feel so much hope for what the future holds. I know it made all the difference in the world that I was so strict with myself the last couple of weeks before surgery.
  16. Totally pointless for me to respond. I live in NY but if I lived in TX I would totally do that for you. My program required me to have a support person too, which was my husband, but we had some ups and downs with making sure he was on-board with me. Good luck!
  17. Oh man! I would have kicked his ass! Elderly or not! People suck. He is not even worth it. I wish I was there. I totally would have thrown something at him!
  18. Oh man, I am so sorry. What a lack of professionalism that doctor exhibited. We are all here for you, when you are frustrated and need to vent. I am praying for you, and I hope you find another doctor, someone who is not only professional but kind. (Hugs)
  19. That's awesome! Now that I finally had my surgery, I can't wait to see what the future holds for me!
  20. you guys are the best! I couldn't have done it without the support from everyone here. Truly a life saver!
  21. LOL yeah, I was kinda freaked at first because I was nervous about what they would think of me having the surgery. But the day before I was like " eff that". I'm gonna git er done and be healthy and happy. I was reassured because I know they took good care of me and I felt safe.
  22. I jog barefoot on my treadmill and it feels more natural than sneakers. I think it's different for everybody. I have a pair of reebok sneakers that shape your legs and they are the most unnatural feeling to wear jogging ever. Do what feels right for you.
  23. I am 1 day postop and have PCOS. My problem isn't not having my cycle enough (or maybe it is) but I will have my period for months and months at a time, stop for 2 weeks and start back up again. I would be elated if I could get regulated and eventually get pregnant!
  24. Hey all. I had my VSG yesterday and I still can't believe I did it. I was supposed to have it done March 22 but Dr. cancelled due to a small weight gain. I was so paranoid about having that happen again that I was uber-rigid with my presurgery diet. I was supposed to stay overnight 2 nights until tomorrow, but I was doing well enough that he sent me home today. Glad for it since I could hardly sleep at the hospital. I have 5 abdominal stab wounds from the laparoscope and a JP drain. He didn't say anything about not returning to work (I'm a nurse in the same recovery room I was just in), he only said not to drive while taking the lortab elixir. I want to go back to work on monday. I'm feeling kinda sore, and I have been sipping my liquids. It still hasn't kicked in yet that I will be losing weight now. I feel like I will believe it when I see it. Anybody else felt like this before? I'm still kinda fuzzy headed.
