I lost 110 pounds with lap band since 2011. I'm very happy with my band. Had no problems. I keep mine filled to 7 or 8 so I feel safe with food and it works best for me. I eat very small meals, Protein is important, and I walk daily for at least 30 minutes. I'm grateful every day. Lapland has worked for me. I didn't want any other surgery and still don't. If you work with it the band will work for you. There will always be new weight loss surgeries.

mominoc reacted to Bandedlauren in QUESTION: What Foods Can You No Longer 'Stomach'?
I did the same thing when I first got banded. Unfortunately the foods you may be able to tolerate now, you won't be able to after a few fills have taken place. I can't eat any bread product, rice, quinoa, and cereals. They either get stuck or come right back up! Also, I can't eat re-heated meat, especially chicken! (Unless its re heated in a broth) the dry chicken tends to get stuck. Other then that though, I can eat pretty much everything!

i usually have a little of whatever i make for my hubby and kids...if its lapband friendly...like burgers, minus the bun....pasta,pizza....i just make some tweaks to mine...ex: if im makin pizza, for me...i get a mini whole wheat pizza dough, low salt sauce, and low fat mozz, and i make theirs regular...that way we are all eating the same thing, and i dont feel deprived!!

as others have said, cook the same meal just vary the portions. Healthy is healthy, no matter what.
At least you're lucky, my boyfriend flat out refuses to eat anything if he finds out it's lapband friendly. Then again I do like weird things at times like meat substitutes and he doesn't like that. It's been kind of rough though, he seems to be finding all the weight I'm losing (thankfully he's a fairly skinny guy) because I cook and he refuses to eat and goes to get fast food.
What can you do? The ultimate thing it boils down to, if he doesn't like what you make, he better be learning how to cook for himself :oP

I cook one meal and he eats much more than I do. I also started to get the quick cooking rice or Pasta that he adds to his plate. I skip them and am satisfied.
Check out emilybites.com. Love her recipes and especially her muffin tin meals. I eat one and my husband has two or three.

He panics anytime he hears me say 'LapBand friendly meal' because he automatically thinks mush and half cup portions is all he'll be able to eat. I'va had the band for almost 3 years now but I found out I had cancer last year (which has been totally swiped from my body, thank the heavens) so I got my band deflated since I was so weak and losing about 3-5 pounds a week. So I kind of got out of the swing of things, and I'm trying to get back into cooking and eating the right things and portions.
I looked at that emilybites.com and found a TON of things I want to try. I showed them to him as well and he seemed interested and didn't freak out when I said they looked like I could eat them.

mominoc got a reaction from RUBYRED81 in What helps with fill swelling
I've had 5 fills. I have to drink liquids for 2 days after, then mushies, then solids. First day or two, I have to be kind to my port because it can hurt a bit from the fill. I don't ice it or anything, I just comply to doing liquids. I drink Protein Shakes, Water, and Decaf iced tea mostly. Fills do cause swelling, so liquids really are something I must do to lessen any pain. After about 3 days or so, I'm okay. I've never had any problems with my band. I've had good restriction since 7ccs and I'm now @ 8cc where I will stop. My band works great and if I just do what Dr tells me everything goes fine. I've lost almost 70 pds since Feb. 7th. Went hiking today! Didn't get out of breath. Just amazing!

mominoc got a reaction from dj112 in Have you told people in OA/FAA about your band? feedback?
Agree with this. My own experience with OA has been that its good support, but the members do tend to judge. Sorry if others don't agree, but my experience. I will tell a sponsor only. Losing weight, being happy, maintaing weight loss is my goal. 12 steps are great, but due to the judging, I will only tell a sponsor.

mominoc got a reaction from TexasDianne in Lap Band Surgery Vs Gastric Bypass Surgery
    Hello,
I wondered about these two procedures also. I ended up getting banded back in February of 2011. For me I realized I could lose weight well enough with the band and I liked that I needed to check in more often with the doctor to get fills, etc.
Being held accountable to someone whomever it is, for me is important, so having to check in with my doctor helps me.
I've lost over 80 pounds so far and hope to lose 20 more by my 1 year anniversary, Feb. 7th.
Banding has worked well for me, I've had no problems and I have been able to lose a lot of weight with the band. I also had a sweet tooth before banding and was told banding might not work as well because of that, but it has worked wonderfully for me.
People lose a lot of weight with the band. For me, I consider my band my best friend because it helps me know what foods are good for me and which foods aren't so good for me. My band helps me make better food choices, healthier food choices and helps me not overeat. All the things I always wished I could do on my own, but never could. I no longer have high blood pressure, I can keep up with others better, I am more active, I am less self conscious, I feel normal in my every day life. I can buckle seat belts and fit into booths easily. I no longer worry about being able to fit into seats. My joints don't hurt much at all unless I walk for hours and hours, then I might feel a pinch, I don't have to take any Advil and before banding I was taking 8 Advil a day and taking more to sleep. I have had many health improvements so far and I will continue to feel better as I keep losing more weight. I can walk up a flight of stairs now without heavy breathing.
With the band, I lead a normal life with food. I no longer obsess and I don't feel cheated or deprived beause I feel my band protects me from food dangers. I didn't use to be able to control any of my overeating, but now with the help of my band, checking in often with my doctors, being accountable to others, I manage my food rather well. I'm proud of myself for getting banded because it was a huge decision for me. It's definitely not the easy way out.
For me, banding was the best decision I ever made. I have no regrets.
    Thanks.

It doesn't sound like you are too tight at all to me. The point is so you can't eat much. Drink Protein Shakes and stick with high Protein foods to get it in. I still drink a Protein Shake now and then. Toss some yogurt, ice, strawberries, high Protein Powder and ice in the blender ..... yum
Have some chili with cheese on it.....yum

mominoc got a reaction from drae0879 in How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills
Love this post! I thought I had restriction before first fill. Ha! It was about me being too afraid to not make good choices after surgery. After my 3rd and last fill for now, that I truly understood restriction. I have 7 ccs now and last week Dr didn't do another fill saying I was okay & didn't need one. I have lost 61 since Feb 7th, 2011. I'm happy too with my level of restriction. I've gone thru my partner (fat) leaving me which would have meant binging before band. I'm changing and my life is changing. I understand that fills change as we lose. Restriction is awesome and feel so grateful. As I go forward being a single Mom, I'm so glad I can be more active with my kids & hopefully meet someone more suited to who I am becoming. Fat pads change and so do we!

Yes, I can't eat bread either. No pasta, pizza, even WASA type crackers don't work! It does hurt so badly. I don't even try it anymore. No fill yet either. Banded Feb 7th. food removed like that is okay, less to deal with. I have gotten stuck twice and slimed once........hope never again! Yuk and pain!

mominoc got a reaction from fitchick911 in Is it what you eat or how much?
Wow, I love this! I also have a Vitamix and make fruit/yogurt smoothies so far. I will try the vegetable drink now too. I'm only 5 weeks out from surgery and eating vegetables seems impossible. I haven't had a fill yet (next week) and still get restriction. I get full/too full easily. Vitamix @ least gives me a smoothie vegie option. Thanks for reminding me of all the machine can do. I make milkshakes for my kids. Soup.......lots of options. I need the energy. Thanks.

I didn't think I would tell anyone, but I ended up telling many friends/family. Its ended up being no big deal and most are positive. I find it easier to tell sometimes, just takes any pressure off. I had to help myself and what others might judge I don't really care about. No one walks in my shoes...........no one knows better than me it was the right thing for me to do.

My Drs said caffeine can cause ulcers due to the caffeine sitting in the port too long. It can be dangerous similar to why they say no AdviL. I quit my wonderful espressos/cappucinos before surgery and haven't had any since. I drink green tea now. I really don't miss the buzz.
