My sister had her leak test today and came through with flying colors. We had to go to the other hospital Dr. Kelly use to use to have the leak test and the road was really bumpy getting there and it did not phase my sister. We are at the Lucerene Hotel and there is no air. They have the heat on right now since it's in the high 50's. We have the door open right now to cool the room down and there is a four lane roundabout outside the door so it's a bit loud. I am hoping the noise dies down tonight so I can get some sleep since I have been sleeping in a recliner for the last two nights. This hotel is good and everyone is very nice. On my sister. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea that we were unhappy with Dr. Kelly or Trish. First, Dr. Kelly is an excellent surgeon and he really cares for his patients and does the best for them. Now for Trish. I don't even know where to start. Trish is an angel. She does everything she can to make people happy and help the patient and their family. The problem we had with the nurse and translation was only for one day and the first night and then on we had no problems we could communicate with the nurse and I wish I would have gotten her name she was really good. The main thing I wanted to share was find out what medication Dr. Kelly uses and make sure if you know there is a problem with it you get it taken care of before you get there. My sister thinks all her problems were the antibiotics. Once she didn't take it anymore her nausea was done. My sister knew that Zofran doesn't work for her and that is the med Dr. Kelly uses. It's not his fault the med doesn't work for her. It is the med he uses. If she would have known the meds he used maybe she could have let him know and he might have been able to get something else for her. I don't know. Please don't be discouraged by what has happened to my sister everyone is different.

My sister is not in any pain. I didn't feel this was a painful surgery. I think the major thing is how your body handles being put to sleep and pain meds. I think she is finally getting better with the nausea. She is suppose to have her leak test tomorrow and we will move to a hotel here in Tijuana then we go home on Sunday.

Dr. Kelly came in this morning and I guess was briefed on my sister condition and came in the room thinking she wanted pain meds and he informed us he does not give narcotics. We then had to tell him she was not in any pain she was nauseated. He left the room came back to tell my sister she needed to get up and walk. The nurse came in as soon as he left with nausea meds. It looks like the clinic is full on the baratric side and I guess everytime he gets a break he pops his head into check on my sister. He is an excellent physician. I don't want to discourage anyone from using Dr. Kelly or this clinic. Everyone is very nice and they try to be as helpful as they can. Just make sure the meds they administer in the clinic work for you.

There are no phones in the rooms so if you need to call someone while you are here, you will need to bring your cellphone. From hearing all the other stories people are talking about their experience here they must have not had any complications or problems. There is another woman in here that was as sick as my sister has been and she is not real happy either. I don't want anyone to get the idea that Trish and Dr. Kelly are not wonderful because they are. I guess since I am from the US and know the kind of care you should get with the surgery having it in a bariatric hospital the clinic my sister is in now does not compare to the care you get in the US. All the people in the clinic now are not large. They probably have a BMI of 30-35. My sister has a BMI of 41 and the beds are not made for large people. When she sits on the mattress is smashes all the way down to the metal frame. Very uncomfortable.

I am sitting at the clinic Dr. Kelly does his surgery right now. My sister had surgery last night at 8 pm PST. I have to question now the care you get in the clinic over here. I had my sleeve done a little over 7 weeks and the care I got in the US was much better. My sister has been dry heaving all night long and they say it's normal. In the US they did not want me to throw up and they gave me meds to stop the nausea. My sister and I do not speak spanish so it is very difficult to communicate with the nurses. If you are coming over here bring a translator if you don't speak spanish and bring your own meds. It has been a very long and painful night.

I went out and bought baby utensils so I wouldn't take big bites and it helped me. Also, are you measuring your food?

I had surgery on a Thursday Worked from home starting that next Monday and returned to work the following Monday. I work 9 hour days and commute 120 miles aday.

I belong to a great support group in Dickinson Texas. Dr. D Vuong. We meet weekly. He has group on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.

My doctor had me walking the day of surgery and told me not to stop. I continued walking when I got home and at my 3 weeks I was told I could use my eliptical. I have moved over to that now. I can't pick up anything over 10 pounds until 6 weeks and he told me I could start exercise then.

What are the sleeve eating guidelines?

I thought it was just me. I am 18 days out and I lost 13 pounds the first 14 days and now I haven't lost anything. I am getting in about 600 calories a day and I know I am not getting in enough fluids. Water is making me gross out. I am so sick of just water. I need to find out how to start losing weight. Any ideas?

My doc says I can everything but beef, corn and celery starting day 18.

I haven't drank anything but I would stay away from the fizz. Do a martini or straight Captain.

My doctor also told me I would be on three meals a day and no snacks. He told me the 6 small meals a day is for body builders not people that are overweight and needing to lose pounds...LOL sounds logical to me.

Make sure you have high Protein drinks. I was given Optifast by my doc and it only had 14 g or protein in 8 oz. That is way too many Optifast to get the protein in. I switch to another brand and only have to drink 16 oz to get all my protein in. I can't take Loretab so my doc gave me Ultram pills to swallow for pain. I only took 3 and I was fine. I even caught a cold and cough my third post op day. I thought for a couple of days I was going to bust my gut open with all the coughing I doing, I am 9 days post-op still have a horrible cough and don't even have to hold my stomach when I cough. I get stronger every day. I get to start mushy food in two days and I am kind of excited. Good Luck with your sugery.

I am also using the Bariatric Advantage. I have been looking and looking because I don't want to lose my hair either. I hear it doesn't start thining until 3-6 months post op. If you figure out what to take, please let me know. Thanks

I am also having weird dreams and I can remember them. My worse thing is I am addicted to the Food Network Channel. Before surgery I never watched this channel and now it's like I can not get enough of it. My poor husband goes outside in the garage to work on his motorcycle so he doesn't have to watch..LOL it is the freakish thing.

I am 9 days post op and I was asking the questions yesterday. I can eat/drink 4 oz now. I thought it was a lot since 2 days ago I could only get in 2 oz. I know everyone is different so I am going to just keep going a long. I have not had any problems besides catching a cold and cough on my third post op day. I still have coughing fits but at least it doesn't feel like my gut is going to pop open. LOL oh and knock on wood Do you know how much you can eat? I am just stopping at 4 oz. I was questioning yesterday if he took my stomach out. LOL

I went 3 days without one and last night I drank apple juice and it worked for me. I hope the prunes kick in for you.

I also have Aetna and they approved my lapband in 4 days and then I changed my mind and wanted the sleeve and they approved it on the phone. I was shoked. I had my sleeve on 12/30/10 also.
