Exercise??

When did you start your exercise and how much? I am two weeks post op, and have not started any type of exercise at this point.

My doctor had me walking the day of surgery and told me not to stop. I continued walking when I got home and at my 3 weeks I was told I could use my eliptical. I have moved over to that now. I can't pick up anything over 10 pounds until 6 weeks and he told me I could start exercise then.

my doc said i can walk as much as i want but nothing else for 6 weeks - not even yoga and i couldn't pick up anything over 20 lbs for 6 weeks.

I was told to walk everyday starting the day of surgery. Starting with 5 minutes (around the block or street) then increase everyday. I walked a lot because I was so worried about blood clots. They scared me. At 6 weeks I was able to start strength training.

I did good with walking after post-op and the next month or so. I just started a "couch to 5k" (C25K) program today and am excited to be able to run 3+ miles in a setting!

So far I'm really liking the lady that does these podcasts. It's great to have someone in your ear going through it with you and telling you when to walk/jog.
