  1. FIRST go to a different Dr, maybe two. THEN decide if you want to give up this path right now! Don't let one bad visit throw you when you don't really know enough yet to make informed choice! I've had knee surgery (ACL), I may have re-torn in (waiting on MRI). If I need surgery again, it will be Weight Loss Surgery first, then knee surgery. The extra pounds make it hard to move around afterwards. Trust me. It was hell the first time. I didn't have strength to go to RR, so I got dehydrated and ended up in ER. Read here, talk to Dr. then make choices (I snore a bit too, it wasn't till I gained, though a sleep study isn't that bad either, though I did NOT need one in the end). Remember the Sleeve has been around as the first part of a two part surgery for 20 years. So long term stuff is out there on it (in a round about way)... Wait, he suggested Gastic Bypass instead? hell no. I am still debating GS, have thought about plication, too new, but it is a thought. Good luck
  2. Just tell him. Even if you aren't close, etc, he is clearly worried about you and will get more so when he sees you next. You'll have a little shi*t to pay, questions to answer, then you can move on. Truth always better.
  3. The magic words in a hospital are "I refuse". I refuse makes things happen. make sure you know what you are refusing to. Ask your Dr. if you can do without. If something happens they can always put it in later. I hate Caths, I hate UITs even WORSE.
  4. Dr, I am considering the Sleeve. I am in the diet pre-approval phase. My debate has been between Band, Sleeve and waiting for Plication (which sounds creepy to fold in your stomach). Anyway, I have heard over and over about post-sleeve patients always being cold. Protein, good blood work, yet still cold. It can NOT just be weight loss. I've read that Ghrelin helps regulate temperature. If so, wouldn't cutting out the stomach part that has most of that cause you to be forever cold? Trade big backside for big coats and gloves in the house? What about the patients that had the other part of this sugery even back as the 80's, is this a known problem with them as well? Thank you, Colette
  5. Normally "false positives" are very early pregnancies that just didn't take, so they were not falsely positive, they just didn't take.. I've been trying to get pregnant for years, many $ and tears to not be so.. Congratulations! Go get another one to make sure (i never trusted just one). Your Dr. can order blood test right away. Yeah for you!!
  6. Ok, you won't like this, but when you say, "i have no choice" it makes it true..and limits you. There is always a choice. This surgery could give you the way to change your relationship with this negative Army once and for all. They do whatever it is they do is because you 'let' them. Tell them how it is going to be (ie No GD judging anymore about anything!) and walk away (from the room, the phone, the conversation, whatever..) Don't let whatever they say in your ears. With your sister, you are helping her, so she really needs to be on your side. That being said, for ease of surgery stress, wait till afterward, THEN tell them, come home from hospital and tell them you have stomach flu and threw out your back. That will buy you time to recover, then when you feel better you might as well tell them.. ..it is a secret, it will come bubbling out at some point... Good Luck!
  7. Slim fast is too many carbs and sugar crap. Go to Atkins bars/shakes if you want to stay in Shake/Bar mode. Bites of things will get add up. One goldfish cracker is 1 gram of carbs for example. Starvation mode happens later, and IMHO, can be broken by a day or two of higher calories, carbs, getting outta ketosis and then back to what you were doing before. (i haven't had surgery, it's just what I know)
  8. I'm in the same spot as you. IDK what to do either. I love everything Tiffinykins has to say! She has a great link into what complications from the Lap-band off their own site. I seems higher risk at first b/c of complication risks with the Sleeve, but then you heal and go on your merry way?! You can wreck any WLS surgery. I'd read and read and read some more of this site and if you are still considering Lap-Band surgery, the Lap-Band talk too. Some 'Official' sites are suspect, since they are unfairly slated. Good Luck!
  9. You friends are just a bit afraid for you. Maybe comparing themselves to you too. Looking good at *this* weight and having healthy knees and blood sugar in 15 years are two different things!! But, hey accept their words, yes, (even though you may *need* to lose weight), you look good! Say why yes, I do! (But I'm still getting WLS!) I hear that all the time, you look good, but...I do need to lose over 100 pounds to not be BMI overweight anymore. (I'm in pre-approval stage now for Band or evil Sleeve). And I am creative and wear black (it's clean, it is slimming-although strangely white is too). Think of fashion designers and hair stylists, they are always covered in Black!
  10. Calicum so you keep your teeth, no Ketosis for babies sake, protein for you both and Fish Oil,etc for you both. Yeah for you!
  11. I went to Mexico for a IVF (it did not work, but I was 39 at the time) The Clinic/Dr's were AWESOME, clean, professional, English speaking and I will be going back again later this year. (I haven't had surgery of any kind yet, I am in pre-approval/choice mode). My clinic was IECH in Monteray< Mexico. It is about 1/2 the cost. Cheap flight (or drive), stay in hotel nearby, work with Dr. here in US for as much pre-testing as possible and your off! Good Luck Oh ha, I guess I posted too soon, good luck on the Adoption. Is there a extra baby out there? I'd adopt now...turned off by hassle cost here in Texas.
  12. I KNEW it wasn't just anemia/protein/loss of fat. thin people aren't as cold. Lovely...I guess just don't look like you've gained 25 by putting on a warm coat!
  13. A trick for a platau, is to go pretty HIGH up on calories for a day or two. Then, go back to your normal level. Then your body thinks everything is Ok, (famine=stress is over) and I bet you'll start to lose!
  14. i see the issue, your boss is just nosey and clueless. Give him lots of info that isn't info and a few lies to toss the trail. I'd try something like, "im having surgery, I wanted you to know, I'll be gone from these dates to these dates, I'll be fine when I get back. I really don't want anyone to know why I am going, you know how office gossip is, but between us, I'll let you know I am having (whatever plausible hernia repair, etc).">He'll tell of course, so keep it plausible. You might not want to say Gallstones, since you may actually face this in the future! Once, my boss asked why I was going (he was just curious), I told him the OBGYN reason I was really going-he never asked again!
  15. Can you get a second opinion? Change of Dr. Something? I have headache issues of my own, I don't know what I'd do if I was you. I don't know much about your medical brain fluid issue, but I had a student who had severe headaches, had a shunt (that wasn't working real well) and was ALSO overweight. Unless they are a specialist in your issue, how can they say weight loss is the key. Fkrs...Good Luck!
  16. I've seen this from others. I know that as we lose fat we are getting colder and our bodies are generally out of wack, but there are others who are thin and not cold-so what is really up with this? Does it ever go away? I'd take a weight loss in exchange for being cold, course then you are wearing bulky clothes.. I haven't had WLS surgery yet.
  17. This woman was/is a Drama queen. How did your friend react, this may be par for the course with Mom, freaks out, everyone runs to her. She also may be afraid for you, at this point a little late...she may be real embarrassed by her behavior now. My family is freaking out. It sounds bad, 1/2 stomach gone for weight loss, they tell me to get on the ball and really focus and work out. Really? I look just like my Aunt! I've been over 200 since I was 30, 170 in High School and even at 5 "9 (i've shrunk) that is just sad, now at 40 I've spent the past 2 years hovering at 280 or regaining everything i've lost. I'm DONE.
  18. Wow! That's fast! I am calling Aetna today to make sure all my ducks will be in a row! I am going to ask for a case manager. I hadn't gotten one yet. I am on the 3mo diet plan. My Dr/ can't even submit until Feb 14. My hubby is about to leave the job that has Aetna and the new job does not cover WLS. So he is trying to stay as long as he can to get me covered, but he is already at the new hotel balancing shifts between the two. To really complicate matters, I have a seasonal, 8 weekends only, bar manager job starting Feb 19th-April 9th) I need to push this surgery as far into the future to keep my job (I have a friend that can to do my job the first weekend after, while I "show my face once in a while and hide in my RV). I may pay for Cobra for one month, to push it forward 4 weeks, but then that cost *essentially* comes out of my pay at festival job and still may not get me to April, but helps ensure I'll be back next year!) We will see, but I am tired of my booty, enough to be less afraid of WLS! Happy New Year Indeed! Here's to a new 365 day trip around the sun!!
  19. You M&M and Milk product story reminds me of something. First, about 15 years ago I had the flu and was real sick, Mom was cooking a fancy turkey for xmass dinner. In my fever haze, all I could smell was that damm bird. Ruined me for turkey for about 10 years!! Also as a kid, I stayed with Dad all summer. He and his wife were eating uber healthy food, nasty stuff really, but when I got back to my Mom's at the end of the summer, I was a Ridged Chip-it was sooo nasty I almost puked. Now, after a while they tasted good again ..so maybe the M&M's ARE really gross!! I can't be gone from this job for even a weekend, no way, no how. It is a 8 weekend event and they are out of luck, there is no replacement. BUT, If I am at least onsite at the start and end of the day with my friend (who is a already employed by the event as one of my bartenders) running everything and me hiding in my trailer the rest of the time I can sneak thru. (crossed fingers) The next weened will be 12 days out and not as bad, esp since I don't work during the week. At least I am praying that. I am considering COBRA to extend my benefits till later, but the cost of that outweighs the money I'd make at the job! Thanks!
  20. Good Afternoon. I am new here. I am considering VSG surgery. I am doing the 3 mo diet plan right now for Aetna. I am about to lose my insurance that covers WLS, so I have a deadline I am working against. I hope I can get my surgery on a Monday. I have a WEEKEND only job during the time in which I am to have surgery. I have no job during the week right now. I am a bar manager at a outdoor festival with 6 outlets that I have to manage over the course of a 12 hour day, two days in a row. I spend a good part of the day going up (hufff) and down (whee!) rolling hills. Two of the bars are at the top of the hill..and they always need me when I am at the bottom. I have a friend to be my Assistant that weekend and use her to run money (the usual emergency) where it needs to go and not lift items. I love the job, I need the job and I need to keep up good face with the owners, and keep the job from the Snake that wants it. If owners see me dragging that is Ok, as long as I am onsite sorta moving around. If it is that hard to do the job, I am tempted to do the nasty Lap-Band instead. Question is: How realistic is this scenario? (Barring any Leak, re-surgery issues) Looking for others early recovery stories or how likely this is to work. My stats are 40 year old female, perfect blood work, 5 9" BMI 40. Colette
  21. With your headaches, I'd try a shunt too, it will get clogged a bit-but maybe not, and not having headaches for a long time might be nice! As far as the sleeve, get it. I have neither, I am about to get one or the other, my new insurance may not cover it, so I think I am going sleeve from the get go. Good luck! (I hate when I get the lose weight answer, duh..) Keep trying!
  22. maybe get a fill, even if you feel it is Ok, you can always go back to the level you are at now, and I'd also add more protein too.
  23. To me this sounds like you need to see a specialitst in bands, maybe not even one in your city. A second or third opinion. As good as your Dr. is, it could fall under a insurance settlement. I don't see why you should get a sleeve, until this is cleared up. Don't live this way until you have exhausted all options.
