I'm RNY, but the diets are pretty much the same. I haven't worried about any macros except for protein since I hit maintenance. We do have to meet protein requirements for the rest of our lives, but beyond that...?? I just try to stay within my maintenance calorie range at this point - and have for a long time.

    10 years out From Sleeve

Soo. I started my weight loss journey over 10 years ago. I am 5'2" I had surgery and was, if I remember correctly about 320 pounds. (and I had lost weight before surgery..) I was 54 years old. I lost over 100 pounds. I got down to 180 pounds. I could never get lower than that. But my doctors were pleased and so was I. Over 10 years I managed to gain weight and this past July, got mad at myself when I realized I weighed 220 !!!! I told myself that I needed to reverse the trend, and get back to a healthier weight. My initial goal was to lose 10 pounds in a year. Well, I lost 10 pounds in 4 months and then lost another 12 in the last 4 months, and for the first time in about 6 years am just under that 200 pound weight at 198. ( I will claim those last 2 pounds ! ) I refuse to do any drastic dieting, just "going back to my sleeve eating." More protein, less carbs, more vegetables. occasional treats. Cut out the popcorn and chips which are my slider foods.... and although I really cannot exercise with my other physical issues, I am moving more and feeling better. I would be happy to be in the mid 190's for this coming July - but focusing more on making sure I don't backslide again.... I am posting because .... well, how do you explain to anyone that you have already lost over 140 pounds and gained back 40, and now have lost 20... 10 years later and it's all connected ? And at my age, no one really notices.... although I did go buy new jeans/slacks for work because darn it, I didn't keep the smaller clothing !!! Anyone else as far out as I am ? Having issues ? Getting back on track this late in the game ?

No, haven't had any ulcers from it (and neither has my wife who is pushing 16 years out on her DS - sleeve plus intestinal rerouting - and she is an occasional NSAID user.) I believe that ulcers can heal themselves given time and gentle diet, but they are usually helped along with medication, usually a PPI such as omeprazole and a coating med such as Carafate or Sucralfate, which are sorta industrial strength Pepto Bismol that coats the inside of the stomach between meals to protect it.

    Alcohol during maintenance??

Hey, what some people call addictive or obsessive behaviors, others call persistent behaviors... I say if it's not causing anyone harm and makes you feel better, persist!

I am a nurse, so I usually try self-treatment first rather than talking to my doctors 🤦🏼‍♀️ (they are all cringing right now with that statement 😆). My stomach stopped hurting after a few days once I stopped the steroids, so I am assuming if I was starting to get an ulcer, it healed once I stopped the steroids. I know I will need steroids in the future due to asthma, but I will definitely approach with caution and stop at the first sign of stomach pain.

    Hair loss

what they went through is pretty uncommon. For most of us, the hair does grow back - and also, most people don't lose enough for others to notice (YOU'LL notice - but again, for most of us, it's not enough for others to notice). Some lucky folks don't lose any hair at all. I Just want to say that most pre-ops (and early post-ops) are super concerned about hair loss (and loose skin, too), but I think I can speak on behalf of the vast majority of "vets" when I say that in retrospect, both of those are a small price to pay in exchange for finally getting rid of excess weight. I would take temporary hair loss and loose skin any day over weighing over 300 lbs again. ANY DAY!!!

I sometimes find myself thinking about how weird Covid has made having wls because so many of us will be seeing groups of people at drastically different weights. I still go to work each day so my coworkers are used to it, but I’ve not seen my siblings since 110 lbs ago. If I don’t see them until this summer or fall I could be at a normal weight range- when they last saw me at almost a 50 BMI.

    Plateauing & Aggravated

TY so much. If my body fluctuates after I hit the goal, then so be it. I just want so badly to see the number of my goal on the scale. Even if it is just once!

    I "snuck" having WLS

Tell him he’s been”cheating” when he uses the microwave instead of cooking over a fire, taking medicine for a headache instead of picking and brewing herbs, or driving a car instead of walking. 🙄 why is it cheating to take advantage of medical advancements which allow us to live healthier, happier lives? Best of luck to you, Orinskye!

So mad at myself for regain

@Debbieduck4 PM me if you want to attend my online support meeting tonight at 6pm CST. We're a great group of committed folks who really motivate each other and help us with accountability and focus. It's hard to go back to basics, but IMHO that's what it takes. Plan, weigh/measure, log EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth for a baseline. Everything. Then look at ways to cut the trash out and emphasize the healthy stuff. Prioritize protein, water, healthy veg, healthy fats. You can do it. Seen too many people succeed in getting back to goal to believe it won't. Hang in there. These are tough days.
