That is really unkind. you've lost weight and gotten healthier. I'm sorry they aren't being more supportive, you have so much to be proud of! be kind to yourself.

    Unsupportive friends

Surprisingly, my youngest sister was unsupportive. I stopped talking to her about the WLS. She didn't even know the date of my surgery. I figured, this was one decision about my life she did not agree with and I am totally okay with her opinion; because it's just that, an opinion. Now, if your friend is constantly making negative comments about your surgery, you might have to reevaluate if she is a genuine friend. No real friend wants you to fail.

    Newbie here

I can't add anything that catwoman7 hasn't already said other than welcome to the forum. Come here often and learn as much as you can. The process isn't nearly as scary if you go through it with lots of knowledge and you know what to expect!

    June Sleevers Post Op

I wanted to start this thread for all the June Sleevers to share updates on their progress. When did you have your surgery? How many days are you post-op? How has your recovery been? Have anything you're struggling with? What does your post-op diet look like? I'll go first! I had my surgery on 6/8. Surgery went really well, had an outpatient surgery so I was home same day. Recovery was really good, pain the first few days, now I'm pretty much back to my regular grind. I am struggling with my post-op diet a bit, but more so because I'm wishing I could have some real creamy soups. I pretty much have 21 days of a sugar free clear liquid diet with the exceptions of two protein shakes. This is just phase 1. Phase 2 I move onto soft foods for 3 weeks, then solid foods. I haven't quite seen the weightloss I was hoping (3lbs), but you have to trust the process.

    Surgery!

I had my first surgery when I was 24 and I was scared out of my mind! But, honestly, your image of it is a lot worse than it actually is (or at least that was true in my case lol). They take you into the operating room and the anesthesiologist talks to you bit and may ask you a few questions and then... you wake up in recovery. I'm 32 right now and have had surgery 3 times (gallbladder removed, brain surgery, weight loss surgery. In that order lol). I was only scared the first time because it's the unknown that terrifies. And yeah, you'll be in pain when you wake up, it's typical of any surgery. But, you tell the doctor and they'll give you some lovely pain meds and you should pretty much be fine after that. Just make sure you walk, walk, walk, because you want to get that gas out of you and that's the only way to do that. Yes, it'll suck and you'll be sore and won't want to do it, but you actually feel a lot better when you push yourself a little bit. Not too much, just a little. If you're have the sleeve surgery (or DS or Loop DS) then your incision site where they removed your stomach is going to hurt the most. I had to have my mom help me in the shower because if I moved a certain way it hurt so bad I'd start crying. Also, getting up hurt. And sometimes sitting down. However, I also didn't take my pain meds so I'm not really a point of reference lol. I have a high pain tolerance due to my TN and I hate how pain meds make me feel so if I feel like I can withstand the pain I do and won't take the meds (I had a 30 pill prescription. I took maybe 8 or 9 pills of that and still have the majority of the prescription left over somewhere...). So yeah, it's nowhere near as bad as your mind is making it seem. Just focus on how you're going to feel a year from now when you've lost a ton of weight and are a healthier you! I wish you the best!

    Plastic Surgery Cost

I had a modified TT (no muscle tightening and had some lipo conturing and an extended brachio (incision went from elbow all the way under the bottom of each breast) for 15K. My consults quotes ranged from 12-17K. Check out the real self website for prices and it may give you links to surgeons with a free or a discounted consult in your area. My surgery was more complicated due to prior surgeries/scars so the surgeon I chose proposed a different technique to get the best result. I am so glad I went to several consults because after each one if left me with some thoughts and new questions for the next consult. You probably would not test drive one car and buy it so it's worth the time and $$ to get different opinions.

    8 months in...

Wowza! You look GREAT!! Your surgery was two days after mine, and you've lost more than twice the weight I have! You've obviously been working this HARD!

    They MEAN well, but...

Yeah, you will notice that EVERYONE will seem to want to comment on your weight loss. It does get annoying. How about an all-in-one response: “Thanks for noticing, I’m working on it!”

I still enjoy/love food, but in a different way now, I guess. While before, EATIING it would give me a thrill, now, I honestly enjoy watching OTHERS eat it, cooking it, looking at pictures of it, even just smelling it, LOL. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing, it just IS. This surgery taught me a long time ago that I had to be selective in what I put in my mouth (given the limited real estate I have now, and the dumping, and of course the weight loss/maintenance results). I still love going to out to restaurants/bars/parties/get-togethers (well, at least pre-pandamic i did...) but I don't feel the need to eat everything anymore. I often find myself asking "Is it worth it"? More often than not, it isn't. Of course, yours (and others) milage may vary, but I figure it's a lifestyle change. One can't expect lasting change by doing the same things as before. It can be tough at first, but If you can stay the course, hopefully you will find a happier, healthier you. P.S. I am over 1.5 years out now, and no longer trying to lose weight, so I have a different vantage point. I don't really consider myself a vet yet, but I'm not a newbie either. So I fully recognize that it looks different from where you are standing. Take pics of yourself now, write down your measurements, and maybe months/weeks from now you will be all "yay, me" instead of "boo me". P.P.S On a less popular note, if the inevitable ability to indulge is more important to you than the weight loss (and for some, it is), then that is really your choice to make. I can only say from my own personal experience that I will take looking and feeling awesome over a 12-course tasting menu any day. (Not to say I wouldn't go to one, lol) Good Luck!
