Please also realize that the sugar in the fruit (unprotected by protein eaten first) really jacks your insulin levels up. You do not want this. First of all, once the insulin crashes your blood sugar, you will feel hungry and can start a yo-yo cycle of more fruit since your body will be craving sugar at that point. Second, insulin drives calories into fat storage. You don't want that, either. Like the others said, protein first, then non starchy veggies. Fruit only in small amounts AFTER protein is eaten. It is dessert - not the meal. A calorie is not a calorie. 100 calories of sugar is very different than 100 calories of olive oil, or even 100 calories of chicken. Sugar/fruit will send your insulin levels way up there, as it responds to the increase in blood sugar. Oil will not raise insulin levels and protein will do so only minimally and slowly. Insulin spikes will not help you lose weight. You do not want to lose lean protein from your muscles. That will only lower your metabolism in the long run. You want to BUILD muscle mass, and on a restricted caloric intake, the only way is to get your protein requirement in. You also need enough protein to heal well. The guidelines from my doctor are as follows for men: 60 inches tall (5 ft): 70-75 gm/day. 66 inches (5'6"): 75-80 gms. 77 inches (6'4"): 80-90 gm.

    Gastric Bypass stomach ache

Hi all I had a gastric bypass on the 1st of May and I am in the second week of the pureed food diet, I just thought I would ask a couple of questions to see if all is normal. I cannot really get use to pureeing everything so i have been having broths, cottage cheese, some pureed soups and jelly (Australian version of Jello) When eating at times i can really feel the food slowly going down and most times i get a slight stomach ache after eating for up to 30 minutes, I was getting a little worried as I am about to go onto the soft food diet from Friday and was thinking if pureed foods do this what will courser foods do. How long after surgery did you guys experience this sort of thing and how long does it last before i start to get worried?

    What's In Your Hospital Bag?

I had lotion, body soap, change of clothes for 2 days just in case I had to stay an extra day, and a good book for when I couldn't sleep at night. You might want to bring some good house shoes to walk in. Sent from my Moto E (4) using BariatricPal mobile app

Guess it depends on how long you anticipate your stay being. Some people are outpatient and leave the same day, others like me stay 2 nights. I took my own toothbrush and toothpaste, chapstick, hairbrush and deodorant. I wore the same comfy outfit I wore into the hospital with the exception of fresh underwear. Some people recommend bringing your own socks to walk in but hospital floors are gross - surgeons and other staff walk right out of the operating rooms up to the nursing floors to round on their patients. I wore the ones they gave me and threw them away when I left.

I still don't do pasta at four years out. Empty calories that take up stomach space. I have eaten zoodles a few times, and they're a decent substitute. condiments - they do have sugar, although I still used them occasionally. As far as spicy things, if you can tolerate them, there's nothing wrong with eating them. My sense of taste intensified after surgery, so sweet things tasted sweeter and spicy things tasted spicier. I couldn't handle spicy things quite as well as I could pre-surgery, and to top it off, I couldn't slam a glass of milk after eating something that was too spicy for me since we're not allowed to drink right after eating. SO...I did shy away from spicy things for awhile (I still don't eat anything *super* spicy, since I can't drink anything afterward to cool my mouth down!!)

RDA is 15-25 grams a day. People early out from WLS probably don't get nearly that much because we have to focus so much on our protein requirements (actually, most Americans in general probably don't get that much every day). So anyway, if you're in or under that range, theoretically you won't be overdoing it.

I agree with all the post above. Especially, forgive your self. We are blessed with a big life a head of us. Brush yourself off and get back on that horse. You deserve it. Put yourself first and put the stressors in line behind you.You have done awesome and without a doubt can do it again.
