This one didn't ring true for me, but it reminded me a lot of some posts I've seen on here and I thought maybe someone would find it useful. https://www.womenshealthmag.com/weight-loss/a19995829/weight-loss-surgery-story/

one week post op weight stall

Get a grip, you are not stalled. You just had major surgery and you have inflammation, you had anesthetic and IV fluids and your body needs time. Follow the plan, follow the plan, follow the plan. Plus your bowels are probably not regular yet either... You will be fine. Relax. Get sleep.

Welcome to the site! The people on here are very friendly and supportive. Tips: If you're not off caffeine yet, do it immediately. You don't want the caffeine withdrawal headache on top of surgical pain. After surgery, sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk. These make a HUGE difference, really. Rest while you can. The Earth will continue to rotate if the laundry gets done a few days late. Be kind to yourself. This is major surgery and your body needs to heal. Ask for help if you need it. Don't try to do everything yourself. Best of luck with your surgery and I hope you have a speedy recovery!

    Surgery is today!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I’m doing really well. The surgery was complicated. The surgeon discovered a massive hiatal hernia grown all around my lapband. Also the lapband was growing into my diaphragm. It took 3-1/2 hours just to remove the band and hernia then another 1-1/2 to do the sleeve. However my recovery is going great. I was able to come home the day after so got some decent sleep. My only real pain right now is in my neck - probably was cranked back so long with a tube in it. Otherwise doing well. Sip sip sip!

    Pre op diet questions/concerns

I didn't cheat on it as, like many, I didn't have a pre-op diet other than the empty the GI tract thing the day before surgery. It all depends upon your surgeon and how sensitive he is to the need to do such a diet - some are quite specific that they don't think that you did their diet when they get inside that they will close you up and have you try again (though I have never actually seen anyone have this happen,) while others could care less about the diet as they know what they are doing in there irrespective the liver shrinking thing (or whatever rationale they are using.) Some quite specifically don't want their patients fasting for weeks ahead of surgery as they want them as strong and healthy as possible going into surgery - all kinds of different philosophies out there. The best thing is to follow their instructions as you want them as comfortable as possible when they are rooting around in your insides. Note to lurkers and early researchers - it is best to find out about these policies as early as possible - as questions when you go to that first informational seminar rather than find out once you are committed to the practice and it's too late to change.

    Some questions

When my primary 1st suggested WLS he put a notation of all the things that would justify me having WLS in my chart. Sleep apnea (I have used a clap for 13 years), back pain, joint pain, depression, GERD, trouble walking. So when insurance asked he already had all the bases covered. I saw him this week. He was very informative & wants to see me a month after my surgery. Toodles, Rue

    Insurance question

That's a standard term to mean that the insurance company believes you're worth spending the money on. Mostly they want to make sure that your risk of recidivism is low, that you know what you're getting into and how to take care of yourself post-op. That's why there's a psychiatric exam requirement before you can be approved. Most people do just fine with that, though in some cases the psychiatrist may feel there is some previously undiagnosed or untreated depression that could affect your health. There are also other factors, such as if you have other severe medical conditions like advanced cancer, are you likely to actually benefit from WLS? They balance that against the cost of leaving you untreated and instead paying for all of the complications that could arise, such as diabetes. Bottom line is unless you have an extreme situation either physically or mentally, you'll be fine.

I hear you. You *might* have vagus nerve problems, but you might not. Does that mean you shouldn't have the surgery? Let me ask another question: You *might* get hit by a car crossing the street. Does that mean you shouldn't leave the house? No matter what we do, there are risks. Even doing nothing has risks, especially when it comes to our bodies. In your plea, I hear fear talking. It's time to tell fear to STFU. Good luck!

    Lower left belly pain

I’m definitely experiencing the same pain. I am 10 Days post op from gastric bypass. I had my post op appointment this past Monday. I explained to my doctor the pain. He did advise me at that time that he did all of the major work on that side. I told him that the pain increases when I’m trying to drink protein shakes. He advised me to take my time and as my stomach heals things will get better. Unfortunately, my doctor doesn’t believe in sending you home with pain meds. Tylenol doesn’t help me at all. I normally have to lay down for awhile. I told my mom I want to lose weight but I didn’t want to lose it like this (not eating). The only thing I can get down is water and maybe a cup of broth. Tried some soup today and I thought I was going to died from the pain. I hope your doctor can shed some light to your pain!!
