Anyone else has this illogical fear that they’ll be the one this surgery doesn’t work for? It’s hard for me to picture a day when I’ll be full with little sips. All the reading, researching and success stories can’t keep me from feeling like what if. Anyone else felt this way? Yo-Yo Girl from New York City

    Rate of Weight Loss

Hey guys!!! I had my surgery on April 25th, exactly 3 weeks ago from today 05/16/2018. I'm currently in the puree stage of my diet which some things I just can't puree without gagging so I chew until it is liquid and always only eat soft foods. I have lost a total of 7 lbs within those 3 weeks. Week 1----210 Week 2----206 Week 3----203 I am exactly 5 feet tall and started at 235 which I lost 25lbs before surgery. I just feel like I am losing incredibly slow. 2.3 lbs just does not seem like enough to me. Is this normal? I feel helpless and depressed not knowing what I am doing wrong. I know that I am having a difficult time getting fluids and protein in however I am exercising like crazy (cardio until I'm cleared for strength). My calories rarely go over 700 if not 400 and I know a lot of people are going to mention starvation mode. We're already pretty much in starvation mode with the 2 week liquid diet so I'm not sure it is that because everyone else I read on here has lost 15+ lbs within this time frame on a liquid diet and low calorie intake in the beginning. I could really use some advice or at least someone who has a similar journey so I can not feel so alone. Also successes would be nice to hear in case there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks guys!

I am doing a protein shake and clear liquid diet for one week and a sugar free clear liquid diet for 2 days before surgery. My problem is I can't find a protein shake that isn't the most disgusting thing I've ever put in my mouth! Anyone have any suggestions? I'm on my fourth day of clear liquids.

    7 weeks post op

I think everyone is different. I was all ready to jump into blended and then my body was like "oh no you didn't!" So I had SLOWLY transition. I'm on soft foods now and I'm doing to same thing, but I'm so nauseous from anything lately I'm basically just trying to get water in. If I feel sick I just go back and do a shake then something easy then a soft food. But a call to the surgeon would be good too.

    Pre-Operation Holding Pattern

Yep, time is going slower. My family supports my decision, but they also have no interest in what all it entails. My kids asked some questions, mostly concerning how dangerous the surgery will be. They are 25, 24, and 17. Husband is most concerned about getting the hotel info so our route from the surgical center to the hotel can be planned in advance. I am not complaining, he was my gps before I had gps! I just type my random thoughts into my iPad and let strangers help me out. Pre-Op diet on the 28th, one more appointment on the 29th and then surgery 6/11/18. Are we there yet?

    Approval question/advice

My Surgeon had me get pre approval for health reasons and then after the 6 months of diet and weigh ins the insurance said that I had lost too much weight! My surgeon resubmitted and I was approved. It is a roller coaster, but if you qualify it should work out.

I did not. My program only required a 1400-calorie diet for the two weeks prior to surgery, but as RickM said, every program is different.

Short answer: No, but you should. Long answer: The point of the liquid preop diet is to make both your body and psyche adapt for what comes next. Liquid protein supplements are the ideal form, since you do not lose muscle mass and accomplish your goal, basically a win-win. It also makes surgery easier in case where you have conditions like fatty liver that may obstruct the surgeons view, and believe me that having solids in your body will literally be a pain when your intestinal transit goes back to normal and you cannot expel them properly due to not being able to apply the proper abdominal pressure. When it comes to the bottom line, your body won't implode or anything, but it will make things easier for both the surgeon and yourself.
