    Five months out and exhausted

I was exhausted for a while when I was about where you are. I think it's to be expected. I'd take any dietary advice from a counselor with a grain of salt - she's a counselor, not a doctor or surgeon or nutritionist. I think your calorie level is about right for your size and where you are. If you're still losing weight, I'd keep doing what you're doing until your doctor tells you otherwise. But I'd talk to your surgeon and nutritionist. Also consider asking for bloodwork orders to check your vitamin levels.

Many times prior to surgery we are unaware of the extent of our obesity. We do not really look at ourselves in the mirror. We avoid being in photographs. Therefore, it isn't obvious how much weight we have really lost when the pounds begin to drop off. Before I had surgery, I took an very unflattering photograph of myself and then after surgery at the 6 month mark, I took another as a comparison. I used the same pose.

I'm pre-op so couldn't really say but it looks like you should mourn all the extra money you'll be spending on shopping ))

Feeling gross and looking gross are 2 different things. What is your goal weight? I wouldn't expect you to see or feel a huge change with 20 pounds either. I don't feel like some of us really appreciate what surgery does for us until we hit uncharted territory. I appreciated my loss but it wasn't until I got somewhere I had never been and never imagined, a size 8, that I was really in awe.

@grrlann I have been overweight since I was 3 years old. It's been a lifelong struggle, one I'm trying to break free of now. That's great you are doing so well! Congrats to you!

@njgal it is! I am now a size 14/16 to 18/20 top and 22 bottom. I probably am actually smaller on bottom but I have A LOT of extra skin. I am having it removed June 5th though! [emoji51]

    Beating yourself up

Being fat was absolutely 100% my fault. I've never been one to "beat myself up" about it, nor have I ever been one to deny that I had a terrible relationship with food. I liked to eat in bulk, I made sh!tty choices, and I ignored common sense more often than not. I wasn't depressed, I didn't eat emotionally, I had no health issues, I was simply stupid. But I fixed it. That's the bottom line.
