Surgery in Cancun May 7th!!

I am getting the sleeve surgery with Dr. Verboonen at the Galenia Hospital in Cancun. It is exciting and the reality of it all is starting to sink in.

Would love to hear from anyone who has had surgery there or who is planning on surgery around the same time.

Open to any comments or tips on pre or post surgery.

Thanks for being here.:cursing:

Thank you so much! Happy Birthday to you. My sister is going with me and her birthday is on the 8th. We will be there for Mother's Day and her birthday.

Hi Brenda. Congratulations on your surgery. The best tip I would offer is to order unflavored UNJURY protein powder. It has no artificial stuff added and it's easier to digest than anything I got at health food store. The fact that it's unflavored means you can mix it with anything. After my surgery, stuff that was too thick or too sweet made me want to gag--I could mix this with some water, lemon/lime crytal light or a little orange juice in water with lots of ice and it went down pretty easy. Don't know what I would have done without it! I used 3 scoops a day with my water for 60 grams of protein, and then I didn't have to stress about trying to get enough from other sources.

Thanks Katt. Actually I have a package of the unflavored that a friend gave me but I was not sure what I was going to do with it. I have been using the chicken soup and the chocolate on my pre-opt diet. Thanks for the tip, I will order the unflavored now that I know.

Brenda,

You are the first person I have come across to have done the sleeve in Cancun with Dr. Verboonen. I am scheduled for July 16. Any hints, tips what to expect you can give me to be prepared? Where you happy with your decision? Did you feel comfortable in the hospital? You are still alive and sound great so that is great news. My family is nervous about the whole Mexico thing and most everyone goes to Tijuana. Just anxious about the unknown. Sheri sounds great on the phone.

The hospital is cold, take a robe of some kind. Their gowns are small, not big enough for me for sure. The rooms are big and very nice and the bathroom and shower are great! There was a sofa and recliner in my room. It was also very clean.

Some of the staff cannot speak or understand English. But when there was an issue, they called someone on the phone to who could speak English.

They may tell you that you cannot get up and walk right away, but it is very important that you walk and I insisted on it and they called the Dr. V to get his permission.

Don't know if you are familiar with ObesityHelp.com but it is a great site for info also.

I was very anxious but all for nothing. I did ask for copies of my lab work and later I asked Sheri to email me surgery info. I found a surgeon not too far from where I live to go to for follow up and Sheri sent me a surgery report. It was brief but at least something for the doctor here to go on.

I went back to the surgeon here today and he says that I am doing great. So far so good! Please send any specific questions that you may have and I will be glad to answer them.
