New here and getting surgery monday

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm kind of new here (created my account a while ago but never posted XD) and have been going through the motions to get the surgery approved for the past year. I got approved aout 2 weeks ago and my surgery is this monday. Although I'm somewhat excited, my nerves are starting to get to me. Part of me is starting to doubt myself and trying to get me to call and cancel everything. Is it normal to question if what your doing is right? Even up to the last days? I really do want this... I want to lose the weight and feel better and everything else but I cant help but be scared... not only of the surgery itself but that I wont lose the weight or that I wont be strong enough to do it. Its like my mind is split and starting a war with itself. Did anyone else doubt themselves and feel like this?

In case it matters, Im female, 5'5, 19 and about 330lbs

Well hello and hi there! I started at 327, pretty close to 330!

Listen, everyone (well, almost everyone) freaks out a little about this. I have been blogging for over 10 months and there are so many people out there thinking the same things as you! It is natural. You are making a very big decision and it's full of "unknowns" and "what ifs". But hey, you are taking control of something that is out of control. YOu are changing your life. Surgery is scary all by itself, but WLS surgery involves the possibilities of losing one of our best friends. FOOD! But with the band, it's not really lost, we just hang out with it less.

Holler if you have any questions. This is the beginning of a new chapter of your life!

xoxo,

Amy

Thank you so much for your reply! It was great to know it was normal to feel the way I did

I got my band yesterday, had a little panic attack before but the doc and nurses were all super nice about it and did the best they could to be a comfort. A nice surprise was that my nutritionist (who I get along with really well) came in and was in the room with me. It was definately helpful.

Everything went ok, but I did have a problem from being put under and had to spend the night due to vomiting so much. Im home now though, just sore and still feeling a bit nauseus and the hiccups/coughing doesnt help lol. Either way I think I made the right choice, thanks so much again for the support!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
