1/4 cup isn't filling me up anymore

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks post op. I start soft foods tomorrow. I am having a problem with the 1/4 cup serving size. It is not filling me up anymore. What do I do? My Dr. doesn't consider fills until at least 6 weeks post op.

Thanks,

Ashley

A 1/4 cup did nothing for me prior to fills. Most people wont tell you this. I ate 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of food until I had enough restriction to feel satisfied with 1/4 cup. And I still lost weight. Don't worry, it's okay to have a little more food until you get filled. Just be sure to follow the band rule of Protein first, then veggies, then fruit. Truth be told, I rarely eat any fruit.

Thanks so much, happy2lose! That makes me feel so much better. I'll be sure to focus on Protein first. This may be too personal, but how did you keep from getting constipated?

About week three I had to take a laxative. That is the only time I ever felt that constipated. Sometimes I go a couple of days without going and feel somewhat constipated but not unbearable. It's okay to take stool softeners if you need to.

Ashley,

Each doctor is different so I am going to tell you what my doctor just told me on my 2 week post op. If you are hungry eat! But make the right choices. If you want to have an 8 oz fish go for it but don't have a cheeseburger. Once i get a restriction and he makes us wait (90 days!!!!!!) i will be able to eat the 4 oz of that healthy food i am used to by now.

1/4 cup never filled me up. My nut. told me to eat 4 oz.- especially by 3rd week, you shouldn't have a problem eating 4 oz. but if you do have questions, you really should contact your doctor and see what your nut says.

I ate a cup of food all the way through, right to goal anmd 2 years into goal. I would never have survived on 1/4 cup of food. I didnt find it in any way necessary to eat that little.

There's no magic in a measurment, you want ot eat the most food you can whilst still losing so that you remain well nourished and dont slow your metabolism unecessarily.

At your stage though, you're healing and you will loosen over time.So its nothing particularly to worry about.

i was banded on oct 13,09. that 1/4 cup doesn't work for me either. i eat until i am comfortable. sometimes it is half a cup and sometimes a whole cup. my nutritionist was upset but i told her i was hungry all the time. i go to the doctor for my fill on dec 3. that will be my 7th week post op. i keep coming here and reading. with all the different perspectives on the matter, it is easy to find a happy medium. i would be lost without all you guys.

Thanks, everyone!! It is so nice to have a support system with people that are going through it too. I have been starving eating a 1/4 cup and I thought I can't make it like this until my 1st fill. Now I'm going to eat until full. Even if it is 1/2 cup or 1 cup.

Thanks,

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

I had not restriction on measuring.. I was just instructed to get all of my Protein in for the day and not to exceed 11 grams of fat per meal.

It amazes me how varied we are from doctor to doctor.

You are pretty disciplines if you are only eating a 1/4 cup of food.. I guess after your fills that it becomes easier, but as freshly banded person, I can certainly take in a full cup of Soup.

Be well.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
