I was banded 2 days ago and I feel I am doing great. I have a new pain today in my arms....is this normal? It hurts aroung my bicepts and wrists the most. I feel like I was beat up.

I didn't see what date you were banded, except for the "two days ago." A colleague of mine and I were banded the same day and she had arm and shoulder pain early on but I think it has since dissipated. I have a tightness in my chest (was banded three days ago) when I drink. I'm still using the sperometer from the hospital. I think it may have something to do with the air they fill your stomach with...one of the nurses told us that it rises and causes pain in the shoulders, neck and chest. Walking helped us a lot!

I had arm pain too. I had some in my wrist that felt like a bruise, that lasted about 2 months and it was from the IV. I also had some really bad pain in my shoulder that lasted almost 4 months but then all of a sudden just went away.

Its normal. The CO2 they use to expand the abdominal cavity during surgery is compressing against the diaphragm and thus compressing on the phrenic nerve. This is what causes the shoulder and arm discomfort most people experience at some point post-surg. Congrats on your surg!

Thanks for all the reassurance...it's comforting knowing that you are all out there going through the same thing. One arm feels better today and it looks like its going away. I now had a bad bout of diahrea today. Boy..each day brings new surprises.

I am still so happy that I had this done and will be patient while I heal.

I have gas pain in my shoulder, but I think my biceps and wrists are sore from trying to move myself around without using my abs. Pushing off the sofa and pulling against my boyfriend to get up. . .

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
