You want me to lose how much??

Recommended Posts

I went today for my pre-op apt. and did the taste test and placed my order for shakes and bars. Well at the end of the whole thing they told me I would be on a 1200 cal. diet until the week before my surgery, then I would be on the shakes. But they want me to lose 15 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks. :scared2:

I have never lost that much in such a short amount of time, and if it's not lost I get re-scheduled. I could go on the shakes sooner if I choose...I guess my question is, has any-one else had to lose that much in such a short time and can it be done?

I'm second guessing my-self and thinking maybe I should opt. to start the shakes sooner. :(

Jeez, that's a pretty tall order. I would have to do the shakes the whole time to lose that sort of weight in that time frame. I'd start sooner rather than later if I were you.

But its so unfair! I didnt have to do any preop diet whatsoever and anyone who thinks that it "proves" anything about your potential success with the band is, quite frankly, an idiot.

I actually did a Protein Shake diet though the hospital last year and yes you can loose that much. I lost an average of 3 1/2 lbs a week and that's awesome for me.

I was required to do a 10-day liver shrinking diet pre-op.

Here is what I did and I lost 11 pounds in 10 days:

Breakfast: Muscle Milk

Snack: Hard boiled egg or lowfat string cheese

Lunch: Muscle Milk

Snack: lowfat yogurt

Dinner: chicken breast & broccoli

Snack: hard boiled egg or lowfat string cheese

Be sure you get the Muscle Milk with 20g of Protein.

It worked!

Thanks for all ur ideas, I think I am going to do this 1200 cal. diet for one week, see how I do then go to the shakes. I'm going to buy some Muscle Milk and substitute Breakfast with that. Wish me luck, I will be devastated if I have to re-schedule my surgery because of not losing enough weight.

I did a 3 week preop diet and lost 20 pounds during those 3 weeks. However I was definitely eating less than 1200 calories a day. 15 pounds in 3 weeks is probably doable though. Good luck!!

Come on you can do it...... I have 2 weeks to lose 10lb min only 1000 cal.... I have lost 7 in a week!!! you can do it. Just stick to the plan. I am using a white board on my fridge to track my calories so I know where I stand during the day.

Hang in there!!!

Don't have a defeatist attitude. You can do it!

You've said how many calories you plan on eating but what about how many you are going to burn?

To lose 15 lbs in 25 days, you need to burn about 1800 calories more than you eat each day.

It's definitely doable. If you cheat a little on the diet just exercise that much more that day.

Don't be upset with yourself if you miss by a few pounds. They probably want to just see that you have the motivation and made the effort.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
