Approved finally! But...

Recommended Posts

It took a month and a half to hear back from my insurance company but I finally found out today that I'm approved for the band! Woo hoo!

But now I'm starting to have second thoughts again. I think I've been reading too many slipped band stories and stories of people who had other problems. I'm afraid that somewhere down the road I'll have to get it repaired or removed. Or that I'll be one of those people that the band just makes miserable.

Plus I've been doing really well on my diet to lose the pre-op 30 lbs the doctor asked me to lose and I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should just give dieting another shot. But at the same time I know only 5% of people have success with dieting long term.

Argh! Indecision sucks!

I know exactly how you feel i was on the fence for a long time. I just got a call last friday that told me I was approved. And suddenly I am certain that this is what i want to do.

I was banded in May 2009. I've got all the horrible side effects, first bite syndrome, I can't eat solids until after 3pm. I may not be able to eat the same foods 2 days in a row, etc. It takes me 3 weeks to heal from a fill and so on. I said at one time I didn't know if I'd do it again, but as of today, I would do it all over again. I've never lost so much weight this quickly and worked so hard at exercising. The band is the tool that got me motivated while just dieting won't. The band is what is going to make me live longer, while dieting goes up and down and I can forget my diet anytime, I can't forget the band.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
