I ate sushi today

Recommended Posts

Hi... I was debating yesterday whether to have some sushi. I am not sure if I can have it once restricted and I want to start experimenting w/ what I would eat out.

So today I had two rolls - i ate very slowly and chewed well and no problem. Now if I start having a problem later w/ restriction i have a comparison - I did have a problem eating ground chicken the other day but I did eat fast.

I love sushi, but I don't want to risk it, so I now order sahimi.

I eat sushi all the time, and I love it. The rice can be challenging on tight band days. I would suggest, once you have restriction, that you take it very slowly with the rice. Tiny tiny bites and chew well.

Also, it always helps me on tight band days to start my meals with a hot beverage. I like hot tea, and that just seems to relax things and loosen the band.

Go luck.

Thanks! That is good advice on drinking hot tea before! I wanted to try it I am post op and on solids before my first fill Oct 14 so I have a comparison.

Ohhhh, sushi! I haven't tried it since I hit my sweet spot, but I WILL get around to it eventually! I don't have a problem with rice if I eat slowly, so maybe it will work. YUM!

I guess there is always the sashimi - but i always prefer rolls! I will have to see what happens w/ the restrictions. I'm sure if you take tiny tiny bites and chew it would be fine??? And take forever to eat it?? At least w/ this food its ok if its cold!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
