I'm Soooo Excited!!!

Recommended Posts

I had my appt. with the surgeon today, and it was just the most positive experience. He completely feels that the band is the way to go for me. He did not even consider the RNY. After going over my health history and doing a minor check up, he concluded that the band would be my best bet. I did not even have to go in and support my belief of why I would rather have the band than the RNY; he did all of that for me. He answered all of my questions (which I thank all of you for providing) and really put me at ease. So, now all I have to do is get a letter from my therapist Monday to take to the surgeon Thusday, and he'll put in the request to my insurance co. He told me that it usually takes about a month to hear from them. I'm so excited, but a bit afraid as well. I'm hoping that my insurance company will approve the band for me. I can't believe it. I could possibly be banded before the hollidays! ;)

I'm so glad for you!!! This is both an exciting time and an anxious time as well. Try to focus on the exciting part and forget about the insurance, as much as you can, and the time will fly by!

By the way, which insurance company are you using? Did you ask the docs office if they were approving or not? They usually know.

I'll keep good thoughts coming your way that they approve it and send it back very quickly so you don't have to worry:-]

Chichigirl, I have Pacificare HMO. The dr. told me that even though they tell the carriers that they do not cover the lap band, they usually do. Isn't that interesting? Thanx soooo much to all of you for the positive thoughts and well wishes. I need them! ;)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
