Anyone here diagnosed with Pseudotumor Cerebri/Intercranial Hypertension?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would like to know if anyone here has a diagnosis of pseudotumor cerebri/intercranial hypertension? I have this condition and my neurologists recommended that I look into wls as losing a large amount of weight can drastically improve or sometimes cure this condition.

I would like to know how you were doing pre-band and now post-band if possible. Thanks for your input!

I have it as well. I'm not banded yet but I'm going to be soon. My major problem is that the high pressure in my head is threatening to destroy my eyeballs from the inside. Basically it's lose weight or take the chance of having your retinas detach. Fun. I think I'm the only person on earth who enjoyed their spinal tap... a whole four days of no headache! My neuro also said that losing weight was no guarantee the problem would resolve itself or improve in any way. Thanks. $18000 and the problem might NOT be fixed?

Check back and I'll keep you posted.

Wow, SO glad to see this post!!

I have had pulsatile tinnitus (aka I hear my heart beating/wooshing in my ear) since I was 18 and I am now 24. At one point when I got down to 180 lbs it went away, but as soon as I gained the weight back and got over 200lbs it came back (I'm now 211 lbs). In the last year I've been having more frequent headaches and a couple of months ago I went in to see my PCP and he ordered a MRI because of my complaints, well it was 100% normal so I've been researching it more and come across IIH. I am convinced that is what I have!

I had a eye exam last year and they did not see any papilledma but I know that doesn't rule out that I don't have IH.

SO, I brought a print out on IIH to my PCP on Friday and he said he thinks I should definitely go see a neuro and have a spinal tap, so I'll be calling tomorrow to make an appt.

So, between all that and having hypertension I'm pretty confident I will be able to get lap band approved through my insurance co. -- I have a BMI of 38.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
